installing fastercsv into vendor directory
I am using fastercsv to process input files. I want to install it into my app/vendor directory as a gem (I guess). I used ''rake rails:freeze:gems'' to get rails into the vender dir. But I cannot find any doc on how to do it for fastercsv or any third-party gem. Any help appreciated. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

lookup in CSV recipe
I await Luke''s node settings implementation with interest. At the moment however, I have this sort of ugliness: $site = $hostname ? { fred => "opsera", barney => "bedrock", default => "unknown site", ... } So I''ve knocked up this little function to use CSV files instead. Now I can just do: $site =

Encoding issue: is it Rails 2?
Hi, I recently upgraded from Rails 1.2.6 to Rails 2.0.2 and an application which used to correctly display European characters from an Oracle database (Win-1252) now screws them up. I previously had to convert from Win-1252 to UTF-8 for generating ODT files (OpenOffice) via Documatic. But I never had to do any conversion just to display the content in my Flex front-end. Has anything changed in

Reporting with Rails
Hi all, I was wondering how you guys generate reports from rails. I want to generate business reports in pdf format, and was wondering what you guys use. I have searched the web and found Ruport, but there isn''t much documentation or examples of real world business reports like jasperreports, for instance. Is it possible to generate good looking business reports with ruport? What other

newbie wants to know..FasterCSV or just CSV?
I''m trying to grab a CSV file from a user and let them upload it directly to my database, but doing some minor checks on the data before saving. Which is the easier way to implement this? CSV or FasterCSV? I saw that perhaps there were some issues with FasterCSV and csv files created from Mac versions of Excel. Anyone have any experience with this and can recommend a newbie friendly

gem question on hosted service
All, This may be a gem question (not rails) but I feel sure someone else on this list has seen this issue go by. I use a hosting service that has ROR available, but I am among the few developers using it. I am developing on a local linux box, and have been very careful to NOT use any extra gems because I might have a problem with my provider. Well ... fastercsv rocks and I wanted to use it. My

Need to link to something like JasperReports
Hello everyone, Has anyone linked Rails to a report generator such as Jasper Reports (http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net/)? At the moment, I think I need something along these lines for a project I''m working on, so it''d be nice to know if anyone''s used it before before I bring it up as a suggestion. Doesn''t have to be JasperReports, and in fact I''d

Ruport Day
Here''s an idea we might want to look at just after we do the alpha release: http://ruport.infogami.com/RuportDay2006 The basic premise is 24 hours of testing, debugging and coding focused on one app. They announced to the ruby mailing lists and have prizes they arranged (Could we get a sponsor? I don''t know.) Personally, I think prize money opens a can of worms. But a

Strategy for importing temporary .csv file?
For some reason, I''ve posted this question to this forum 4 times now and it never appears in the daily consolidated email I get daily? I''ve written a routine allowing the client user to declare where their .csv import file resides and then send it to the server to import the many rows into an existing model table, and then throw it away. I''ve imported many graphic files
