one dude about rt_tables
Can I add routes to rt_tables by hand with the vi editor?
If I add a route to that file, it will be there if I reboot the box?
I am sure there are stupid questions but I can''t find the answer into the
papers I have here.

Can I Classify Non-IP Traffic?
Background: Thanks to the LARTC howto, this list and Stef Coene''s and
devik''s excellent web sites I now have an ethernet bridge (patch
bridge-nf.0.0.7) happily prioritising traffic (12Mbit) into 10 queues
(9 for IP and 1 for non-IP) using a combination of iptables (fwmark)
and htb3 and sfq. Many thanks.
At the moment I''m filtering all non-IP traffic by setting the

Fw: setting an exception source to a redirect rule?
I recently setup shorewall on my freshly rebuilt router box.
I setup transparent proxying using transproxy/dansguardian/privoxy/squid.
My current rules for the redirect are:
REDIRECT loc 81 tcp www - !192.168.100.0/24
ACCEPT fw net tcp www
How do I set this so that all the request are redirected except for requests FROM a certain machine (192.168.100.11)?

esfq experience anyone?
Hey, fellow LART controlllers,
I''d like to ask if someome has a real esfq experience with HTB class
hierarchy and esfq qdiscs. Lets say that I want to unite the connections
to 10 client PCs with u32 or fw filters (doesn''t matter which one in fact)
into one HTB class with esfq qdisc at the end.
Did anyone tried it, and more important, did it worked the way it is supposed to?

peer probe fails (107)
Hi gluster:
Im getting the cryptic 107 error, (I guess this means gluster can't see a
peer)...
gluster peer probe vm-2
peer probe: failed: Probe returned with unknown errno 107
When I can effectively ssh and ping a given server.
I've seen other threads regarding this, some of them to deal with the

disable/mask NetworkManager leads to unit startup fails
Hello!
For me it was best practice to disable "NetworkManager" on headless
installations.
Now suddenly I ran into an problem with several programs not starting
correctly upon boot anymore.
The problem seems to be that their unit files contain "After=network.target"
but network.target wont wait till network is up and working, just waits for
some low level network stuff.

dsmark, unkown
Hi,
I want to use the dsmark, but it always says: "unkown qdisc", although I
have enabled it (y in Network options), and I have my kernel recompiled.
I am using SuSE 8.1, 2.4.20 Kernel, tc available at the HTB site (with
already precompiled HTB queue).
Can anybody find the problem?
thx

Proxy-ARP
I''m working with LEAF boxes as gateway machines. I''m trying to implement
Proxy-ARP to build a bandwidth manager for my network. I''ve gone as per
the lartc howto to implement a transparent bridge in an existing network
and plan to put in my tc script after this. I''m configuring the box as a
standalone one before plugging it into the network. I''m getting

where is "equalize" kernel patch?
I found following paragraph in the man page of iproute2.
equalize
allow packet by packet randomization on multipath routes.
Without this modifier, the route will be frozen to one selected
nexthop, so that load splitting will only occur on per-flow base.
equalize only works if the kernel is patched.

samba 4.4rcx WINS nsswitch module
WINS nsswitch module
--------------------
The WINS nsswitch module has been rewritten to address memory issues and to
simplify the code. The module now uses libwbclient to do WINS queries. This
means that winbind needs to be running in order to resolve WINS names using
the nss_wins module. This does not affect smbd.

PAT problem
Hello everybody,
I want to solve the following problem with Shorewall:
I have a computer with one NIC (eth0) with an internal IP address
(10.1.x.x), which is supposed to accept connections from various
clients (10.2.x.x) and redirect them to another IP address (10.3.x.x)
with a different destination port.
For example:
The software on the client computer is told to connect to the

Public Router using Private Links
I am running a public core router using private links from my provider.
Details:
RH7.3
9 interfaces (all Intel)
eth0 is default gateway and has a private IP address
all other interfaces are links to other routers or networks
eth3 has a public IP address
The core router will rarely need to access sites out on the internet, but when it does it cannot get there because the eth0 has a private IP

Route policy preference value
Assuming if I have rules matching the same packet,
the one chosen is the lower preference value or
the high ?
For example
# ip rule list
....
100 from 192.168.1.0/24 lookup main
200 from all fwmark 5 lookup first
.....
Packet is matching both rules, the one with priority/preference
100 or 200 is selected ?

rsync: future of the --server option
Hello list members,
I notice here that the --server option is listed as undocumented.
http://rsync.samba.org/rsync/fom-serve/cache/88.html
My question is that the --server option is not documented, and I'd like
not to build functionality into one of my systems without trusting that it
will be there in the future.
I was able to find the --server option simply by watching the rsync
