AD and home directory on Linux
I'm trying to get my home directory (automaticly) mounted from the
AD server via SMB - I can't (don't want to) use NFS, because that
fucks up the file modes (even with SFU it's not compatible enough).
Using LibNSS/LDAP and LibPAM/{LDAP,Krb5} will authenticate me,
get me a ticket and overall work exactly as planed.
However, my home directory isn't availible (I had to create

wonder shaper and vsftp
I have a linux server connecto into a 100mps LAN, i

(shorewall.net) and then I used the wondershaper.
When I adjusted the values below, I got a download
speed for vsftp at a whooping 1187.91 KB/s but a
upload speed is only a painful 27 KB/s.
I dont fully understand the underpinng codes behind
the wondershaper htb stuff. can someone guide me on

wonder shaper and ''unmetered ip addresses/ranges''
Hey,
I was fiddling with wonder shaper and it works great, except in my situation
I only have 1 real network interface and the other interface is a virtual
interface ie eth0:0, and tc doesn''t seem to support that. I have 2 subnets,
one of which goes to the router which then goes to the internet, and the
other subnet which contains the rest of the computers which go through this

As stated by your message, I''ll try it again on the mailing list..
I tried your wondershaper today and there is one thing I am puzzling
about. If I add port 80 and 21 like this
NOPRIOPORTSRC=''80 21''
The uploads from my webserver and ftp server are a lot faster then
without adding the ports and surfing the web is a pain.

wonder shaper problems
I just installed Xandros 2.0 Desktop. I used apt-get to install iproute. I
then downloaded wondershaper 1.1a from the website. I edited the script as
the readme says.
I went to console and started the wondershaper script...and i get the
following error messages.
RTNETLINK answers: Invalid Argument
many times.
Any ideas what is wrong?

Wonder shaper wierdness.
I''m troubleshooting a modified version of the wondershaper and am
encountering some trouble that I was hoping you could help me look into.
I have 4 queues that I add traffic to:
1. VoIP phone stuff
2. ssh traffic
3. HTTP
4. everything else (should be default).
Latency is definitely increased when I run it. I was trying the catch
all rule (#4) and removed the specific rule for

Hi all,
I need to provide shell hosting for about 40 users, and few
days ago I found the wondershaper script, so Im trying to
know if this script could help me to improve interactive ssh/telnet
connections.
Wondershaper could help me or its only efective on OUTGOINGS requests?
Ok, any comment and feedback will be welcome.
Sorry for my bad english and THANKS in advance.

question about wonder shaper and htb
Greetings,
My question deals with the htb version of wonder shaper. I used it
for some time without much alteration except I noticed something odd
in the way the rates are set up for the 3 htb classes. The way I
understand it, there are 3 classes:
1:10 - high prio class with rate ${UPLINK}kbit
1:20 - bulk/default class with rate $[9*$UPLINK/10]kbit
1:30 - bulk/default low priority

RH8 guest: bad fs?
I recently reinstalled RH8 as a VMware guest on a WinXP box.
I used a previously proven script at level 3, containing, in
one line with no inappropriate spaces:
mount -t smbfs -o user,noauto,dmask=777,fmask=777,username=xx,
password=yy //DELLBOX/linuxShare /mnt/linuxShare
I get a failure that reports numerous possibilities including
bad fs, and other other things. I suspect I omitted a

moving from RH8 to CentOS5.1
Hi all,
Is there a way to 'automatically' recreate users/permissions when moving
from RH8 (yes, I know...way old) to CentOS5.1 or is it just simpler to
recreate the users manually?
Total users on this system is < 20.
Thanks in advance,

RE: [Private] RH8 and Samba 3
Gordon,
I did as you suggested, and that seems to have fixed it. Thanks for the
suggestion However, this is contrary to the given docs on how to use CUPS
with Samba, is it not?

RH8 Packages
The samba 3.0.1 RPM for RH 8.0 seems to require two different openssl
packages. It requires libssl.so.4 and libcrypto.so.2. The first is in
openssl 0.9.7 and the second in openssl 0.9.6. Am I missing something?
Which versions of those shared libs are actually required?

Makerpms.sh changes for RH8
The rpm build utilities have changed with Redhat 8.0.
I'm not sure if these changes have been noted in the current sources,
but the "makerpms.sh" script in the src/packaging/Redhat directory no
longer works with Redhat 8.0 without the change below.
The two lines at the end of the script need to have "rpm" changed to
"rpmbuild", the switches remain the same. You

samba problems in RH8 and 98/Me
ok, I fixed the file permissions problem using
chown... which is good.
now, I am still having the problem in WIndows 98/Me.
samba keeps prompting for a password to:
//netbiosname//:IPC$
what in the heck is :IPC$????
it works fine in windows XP or 2000, so what am I doing wrong
that it doesn't work in 98/Me?
I tried reinstalling windows me on my daughters computer and
