[JOB] Robust RoR Web Application in NYC
Hello All, I know that a local position is not optimal, but I'm working for a funding company that is overhauling their existing RoR platform and is looking to bring on another full time Ruby developer. The team is 10 strong right now, each having strong programming fundamentals and they are not having any problem retaining them. The team is a group of like minded individuals and the

Robust "online" xapian backup?
Hi. I'm struggling a bit with getting the Xapian indexes safely stored on tape. LVM snapshots is not really an option given the performance penalties of that technology. And the index often encounter writes in the time it takes for the backup to copy off the files. Thus the index is potentially unsafe on tape. I dont know much about Xapian's internal versioning of data, but I suspect it

Purchasing a Sangoma A102 - should I get the hw echo cancellation or not?
Shortly, I'll be purchasing a Sangoma A102. I'm wondering if I should spring for the hardware echo cancellation circuit or not. Upon initial implementation, the 2 T1 Ports will be used as a passthrough as we slowly transition off of a legacy PBX. Eventually, we'll only be using one of the ports, and will be providing VoIP service to a bunch of SIP deskphones. So - with that usage

considering purchasing a t1 card, any recommendations?
I have been looking at the rhino r1t1, and digium single t1, and the sangoma, but from what i read they all sound like good products. Anyone have anything bad about any one of them? I am leaning towards the sangoma as it seems to have a better following here on the lists. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... [OT] Purchasing Rails beta book and CC Verification
Did anyone else who purchased the Rails betabook get a telephone call from someone at "Humboldt Merchants" (sp?) asking to verify their purchase, ostensibly to ensure there was no fraud (on the part of the merchant, not the person buying the book)? They knew my name, phone number, the title of the book I bought and the type of credit card I used. They didn''t give or ask for the

Searching within active record results - ror n00b
I am trying to set up a search page that looks within a product catalog. There are several many to many relationships with the items object. I am trying to be able to narrow searchs and then allow for text searches using tsearch2 and postgres. @format = Format.find(@params[:format_id]) @items = @format.items And then do a find_by_sql on the @items, but I know this isnt how you do this.

Viable using purchasing sip lines
Hello All, We have been doing Asterisk and CME implementations recently but we almost always exlusively bring in analog lines and or PRI for PSTN access to our systems. I have known about providers providing SIP based lines and SIP trunks to end users for PSTN access. I am curious about the following: - How practical is this? The idea of terminating pstn calls to across the Internet

Purchasing Grandstream Phones
Does anyone know of any reliable supplier for Grandstream phones? I tried dealing with David Li from Grandstream, but after emailing him an order in August, and asking how he wanted payment, I never got a reply... James Ho from DGTimes was happy to give me pricing, but when I sent him an email asking for shipping costs, I never got a reply... I tried dealing with John from Chagres Ventures, but

Beta testers needed for RoR site
Blogsaic.com is great new blog advertising site that uses images instead of a text description to advertise the purpose of the blog. http://www.blogsaic.com/ this site is in early development and needs beta testers to help develop the sites content. Content is user generated as opposed to using search bots, to ensure that only useful and entertaining blogs are listed. cheers for all and any

Getting Started with Site Redesign and RoR
Hello all: I am in the process of redesigning my site and was thinking about incorporating RoR into the overall structure. However, there are multiple things I would like to create with Rails, namely a gallery, a weblog, and portfolio management system. Given that I am going to be using a lot of RoR, what is the best way to accomplish this task? Here are some random things that have come
