User Authentication
I''m trying to create a simple authentication system but am failing
miserably. I''m (sort of) following the "Logging In" chapter of the Agile
book. Ideally, any access to http://example.com/publish (and any of its
subdirectories) should redirect to http:/example.com/publish/login when
there is no valid session user_id.
Code so far:

A Good Tutorial on Params and Variables
I have found various posts about instance variables, session variables
and parameters (each of which seems to use differnet syntax and have
different view on the "best practice") I would like to find a single,
reliable source that provides a good overview on all of it.
Specifically, I would like to learn how to pass parameters between
controllers and how to set session variables so

documentation for configuring folder redirection
I believe that once you have roaming profiles configured, all you need to do
to configure folder redirection is set some registry keys. I'd like to turn
that job over to our Windows sys admin. Can someone provide me with their
favorite documentation for configuring folder redirection? Keep in mind I am
passing this link along to a Windows sys admin. Our backend is samba 3.6.3

Best way to split forms into steps?
I have a form with about 30+ fields, which the client is wanting to
separate into 3 pages/steps - just wondering what is the best way to go
about this, specifically remembering data entered, from one page to
another, and making sure the various bits of data are validated
correclty, error messages outputted etc etc...
is there a best practice method for doing this?

Broken edge
Hi all,
Not sure if I''m the only one with this problem...
We''re on edge for both rails and rspec, and i just did an update...
Some apparently innocuous rails stuff was updated, and then half my
specs broke due to an error in rspec_on_rails:

the index page''

Problems with multiple ActiveRecords and Validations
Hi all,
I am a RoR newbie and have the following scenario set up:
There are 2 ActiveRecords involved, the first one being "User", the
second one being "Visibility".
The corresponding users table holds address informations regarding a
User. The visibilities table holds visibility settings for the
individual columns of the users table (i.e. firstname, lastname, country

validates_peresence_of
Is there an expert validater that can point me in the right direction?
I''ve looked for extended documentation on ''validates_presence_of'' but i
can''t seem to find any.
I''m trying to make sure that i don''t enter a nil object in my database,
so i''ve added validate_presence_of to my Record Model.

Validating 2 related models at once not working
Hello,
I have a form that submits data to two related models/tables. One is
Customer the other is Address. Validation for Customer works fine but not
for the Address.
Class Customer < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :address
validates_presence_of :login, :password, :email
validates_associated :address
end
Class Address < ActiveRecord::Base

Create several models at once and validating
I have two models User and Team. Also I have a register form where the
new
user fill in her data and choose a name for a Team.
Well, in the user model there are several validations which work fine,
but
team model also have a validation for a uniqueness name that doesn''t
fire up
when she gives an existent team''s name.
This is the flow it follows:
/user/new -> it shows a

still, it doesn''t work.

collection_select validation problem
I''m trying to assign a parent foreign key value using
collection_select from my child "new" form. The problem I''m having is

You might have expected an instance of Array.

Creating/Saving dependent objects
Folks,
Am new to RoR and am building an example to get myself familiar. I am
running into a simple issue while creating a user registration page.
I have a User and Address models defined as below (partial/relevant code
included below). User has_one address and Address belongs_to user. I have a
foreign key defined in address table that refers to user(id)
In a form I take in username, password,

How to restore fields ("validates_presence_of")
Hi all,
I am using "validates_presence_of" for validating all fields of my
registration form. It is working fine and generating custom error
message as mentioned.
Also clearing all fields. How can restore those fields which are already
filled.
Problem is "validates_presence_of" clearing (blank) field if it fails,
instead of restoring fields which are already filled.
Help.

Flickr - Tutorial
So I''ve pretty much followed the steps in the video tutorial on RoR.com
for creating a small app, to search for photos on flickr.com - all is
good, and works as intended to..
How would I go about adding validation, so if no tags are specified it
will fail. I know I have to use validates_presence_of :tags - but not
in the controller.. so I tried to generate a model called

Weird validation issue
Hi,
I''m having a weird validation issue. Validation isn''t working for
certain attributes and, for some reason, it''s also affecting things
outside of validation.
For campers on certain camp types, we require some information about
their school. I tried to validate the information this way:
validates_presence_of :school_type, :if => Proc.new { |c|
!c.booking.nil?
