This might be obvious to everyone but it is something that i haven''t been able to find an answer to. Do I need to have either scgi/fastcgi/cgi running on either lighttpd/apache for ruby scripts to work? If yes, why? I have installed the scgi server and i can get the service to run, i have also installed the following mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 mod_ruby/1.2.4 Ruby/1.8.2(2004-12-25) mod_scgi,

Production environment for Rails on Win32, anyone interested for a binary release?
Hi all, as part of adopting Rails in my company I had to go through the hassle of setting up a Rails production environment on Win32 system since we mostly use MS SQL as our database back end and also because we mostly dealing with customers who become green-blue-purple as soon as you mention Unix/Linux and run for the door. I also need to mention that most of our web applications are internal and

Lightty idle-timeout - does it work?
Rails 1.0 on RedHat with MySQL It seems that my app stops functioning overnight [actually I am assuming that it is after a period of inactivity]. Googling around for solutions, it seems that it might be an issue with timeouts on the MySQL session. A suggestion I found was to a) increase timeout on MySQL [don''t want to do that]; b) add idle-timeout parameter to Lightty. So I

works with webrick,lighty, not mongrel
Hello, I''ve been working away to setup mongrel as my production server, however I am running into an odd problem and am not sure where to investigate for the answer. When I run using mongrel_rails start most things work fine, but a I get a few inexplicable undefined method errors, for example: undefined method `send_qbxml'' for #<Sync:0x2aaaafa7aa78> The method is

Problems with RJS w/ Lighttpd & Ubuntu
I have my code working on my local machine no problem, but when I upload to the server the RJS effects I have aren''t working. The server is running Ubuntu Dapper w/ lighttpd while on my local machine I''m using webrick. For kicks I shut down lightty and booted my app on the server with webrick and it works fine. So it''s definitely a lightty issue. Anyone else seen

Collecting thread: Too many open files (Rails+SCGI crash)
I have a problem with running Rails 0.13.1 with scgi_rails 0.4.3 and Apache. After running for some time (more than a day), the SCGI process stops with the following error (from scgi.log): -- [ERR][24189] Collecting thread: Too many open files [ERR][24189] /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/scgi_rails-0.4.3/lib/scgi.rb:188:in `accept''

Correcting Bent Records: Mongrel is not SCGI
Hi, I kept getting a very weird question about Mongrel (http://mongrel.rubyforge.org) and SCGI that I think really needs to be cleared up: ** Mongrel is not SCGI and will never need, use, require, or interact with SCGI (unless someone wants to write the handler for it). ** For some reason people have been under the impression that Mongrel actually uses or interacts with my other project SCGI

mongrel vs. scgi
I''ve liked the scgi runner ever since it came out. I like the way it''scontrolled, the way it''s clusterable, and the fact that it runs onwin32 platforms so easily. Now it''s May 2006, and the scgi runner hasn''t changed since October, and now we have mongrel. I keep seeing hints of clustering in mongrel,as well. I just downloaded the win32 installer for

Running apps in subdirectories using lighty/scgi
Hi, So thanks to Zed I was able to get lighty/scgi and a Rails app running. I know this might not be the best place to post this, but I guessed there may be several others with similar experiences here. So, the following step is to have several apps each in its on subdirectory. I tried the following to no avail: $HTTP["url"] =~ "^/tango/" { server.document-root =

Help with SCGI please :(
Hi, While learning Ruby and Rails, I decided I just as well learn Linux along the way... It''s been fun, but I''m stuck at one of those exasperating moments... I hope someone can help me :) I installed Ruby 1.8.4 on Fedora Core 4, then Rails, then lighty, and then SCGI. I used yum to install lighty... and it already comes with mod_scgi. I created my first application in

Postgres text field returns wrong data
I am having an interesting problem. I have a Postgres database with a table containing a text field. In the text field is stored data that in some cases has a ''*'' and a newline return as the first line first few characters followed by several other lines. The strange part is when a record is written the data looks correct, however, when the record is read all line feed and

Problems Deploying a Camping app on TxD
So I''ve been trying all day to get a small camping app I wrote up on Textdrive to no avail. Apache or lighttp for Ror/2003server?
160,000 pages 99% static, only minor stuff done in rail (search, contact us, etc.) windows server 2003 Ror 1.0 Currently 30K Hits /day on IIS. Apache or Lighttp? Fast_CGI seems kinda slow with a 2003/Apache configuration. The only thing I''ll get rid of for sure is IIS. -Cedric -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Anyone else lightttpd 1.4.1 or 1.4.2 problems?
Hi, I''ve had several reports of people with problems using lighttpd 1.4.1 or 1.4.2 with my recently released SCGI Rails runner. I''ve been testing these versions of lighttpd and I see the following problems: 1. When run with -D option, a CTRL-C will often times give a segfault. This is linux for me, any others? It most often happens right after try an SCGI handled request.

Apache, fastcgi, ruby-on-rails etc.
Hi all, I've read a bit about fastcgi, and wondered if it might be an interesting solution for e.g. running php in a user-switched environment or running ruby-on-rails etc. But I wonder why nobody (searched on Google) seems to use CentOS with mod_fastcgi for Apache 2.x. And I also wonder why people actually using Apache 2.x and ruby-on-rails with CentOS did run a lighthttpd-fastcgi
