Conflict between 'nlme' and 'methods' on R-1.5.0 ?
Hi there!
I use R with the packages 'nlme' and 'methods'.Upon upgrading to R1.5.0, I got the following
message when loading nlme (after having loaded 'methods'):
The following object(s) are masked from package:methods :
initialize
After that, when I use my class definitions and scripts(which worked fine in 1.4.1) I get the
following error message when a

FAST MONEY!!!!!!
DO YOU WANT TO MAKE EASY MONEY?
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while
back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came
across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of
dollars WITHIN WEEKS with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought,
"Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was

Problem with a if statement inside a function
I have a really long functions, and at the end of the function, I am using a
if statement
to tag certain keywords based on whether they have certain values contained
in them.
However, the if statement doesn't seem to work.
When I had split up the commands into various functions, it worked fine, but
I'm not sure
what going on now that it's combined into a single function.

side-by-side map with different geographies using spplot
Hello,
I want to create side-by-side maps of similar attribute data in two
different cities using a single legend.
To simply display side-by-side census block group boundary
(non-thematic) maps for Minneapolis & Cleveland I do the following:
library(rgdal)
library(sp)
Minneapolis=readOGR("../Minneapolis/Census/2010/Census_BlockGroup_GEO/","tl_2010_27053_bg10")

empirical (sandwich) SE estimate in lme ()?
Is it possible to get the empirical (sandwich) S.E. estimates for the
fixed effects in lme () (thus allowing possibly correlated errors within
the group)? In SAS you can get it by the 'empirical' option to PROC MIXED.
Cheers,
Michael

Why won''t this box route ICMP echo reply packets???????
Hi All -
I looked for mention of this in the archives but wasn''t able to find
anything.
This isn''t even an advanced routing question, it should be a dirt-simple,
basic, no-brainer, routine routing job. But I''m not getting it!

Evaluating args in a function
Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong here:
> fred <- data.frame()
> class(fred)
[1] "data.frame"
> test.fn <- function(x,class=class(x)) {class}
> test.fn(fred)
Error in test.fn(fred) : promise already under evaluation: recursive
default argument reference or earlier problems?

Wine sourcing for noobs
Heres the deal;
I want to install a patch. I need to do this by installing wine from source. I do not know how to do this.
I have looked at the winewiki, and all over this forum. I have googled the bejesus out of it. I get that I have to unpack the wine source code and what not, all the code stuff just looks like stuff to put in terminal, but evidently that is not the case.
Basically what i

6.0 image for Cisco 7960's?
Has anyone managed to get their hands on a 6.0 image for their 7960's
yet? Or is it still in beta?
Rumor (official rumor, from Cisco) is that it supports paging and
intercom. I'm anxious to start working with those features, if
they've been implemented sanely. What would be just as nice would be
NOTIFY messages for pushing XML URL's to the phones, but sadly that

Problem with RMySQL-0.5-3.zip/R 2.0.0 on Windows XP
I have been installing and using the RMySQL package, version 0.5-3 with R versions 1.9.0 and 1.9.1 on Windows XP without any problem. I installed the package using the .zip binary package available at http://stat.bell-labs.com/RS-DBI/download/index.html.
However, I ran into a problem using this package with the latest version 2.0.0 of R. The installation went ok, but loading the library using

Pre Poettering rsync?
Hi all,
Five minutes ago I heard a rumor that Lennart Poettering has rewritten
rsync. My top urgency is to download the latest numbered version of
rsync untouched by Lennart Poettering: I'll find out if the rumor is
true or false later.
I've downloaded rsync rsync-3.1.3.tar.gz and rsync-patches-3.1.3.tar.gz
from https://download.samba.org/pub/rsync/ . Is the source code in both

Accessing functions in a library
I am trying to write a modified function to plot an rpart object. By
using getS3method I can see the plot and text code that I want to
modify. Since I don't want to modify the package, I create a new
function to plot the rpart object. The problem is that the original
function calls many rpart specific functions that are only visible
inside the rpart namespace. Therefore, when I call my

(no subject)
Hi,
I have set up a pxelinux tftp boot server. It works great and is rock
solid. I boot all management tools and OS installs from it. I have run
in to a problem with Microsoft though... As corporations are slowly
starting to adopt Vista, there are more limited ways available to deploy
the OS. It is now necessary to install it from PE. I have found no way
to successfully boot PE over PXE using

Symlinks followed literally in Debian 3.0, not in Red Hat 7.3
Hi all,
I've encountered a problem in using Samba 3.0.4. I've got a Red Hat 7.3
box (johnboy) running as a domain controller, and we've got symlinks to
a bunch of NFS mounts on a different machine (pawalton) to give people
the necessary file access using only one SMB mount. For example, the
SMB share is under /smbfiles in the root directory of the Samba server.
Within /smbfiles,

Symlinks followed literally in Debian 3.0, not in Red Hat 7.3
After receiving requests to post answers to this query,
I figured I'd resubscribe to let people know that there is,
in fact, a way around this. When I upgraded johnboy to Linux
kernel version 2.6.10, all the formerly problematic symlinks
worked. Apparently, the 2.6.10 kernel fixed some issues in
the smbfs code relating to symlinks (thanks to Ted McManus for
pointing this out to me). So if

Using write list with winbind
I'm a bit confused. We're a hybrid shop with servers of many flavors and many PC workstations. We've set samba up with security=adm. User access is authenticated by our ADS system.
We recently migrated to a new samba server. The Samba domain was properly joined to the domain and everything seemed to be working fine. We had a share on the old server like this:
