manual access to session data outside of request?
So, given a sessionID, I have need to read and write the session stored
information ''manually'', from _outside_ an actual Rails
request/controller.
Readers, I know your first response may be to tell me I don''t really
want to do that. Trust me though, I really do, it makes sense for me in
my case.
I know this wouldn''t work if you''re using the new cookie

Switching to active_record_store session management errors out
Hello,
Running Ruby 1.8.6 and Rails 2.2.2 against an Oracle XE database
(sigh).
I just upgraded Rails from 1.2.3 to 2.2.2, which made my cookie based
system for storing session information to error out due to the 4Kb
limit. So, I tried to turn on the active_record_store system by un-
commenting out the "config.action_controller.session_store
= :active_record_store" line in

update_all not changing updated_at
Hi everyone-
Model.update_all works and changes the records, but it''s not changing
the updated_at field. Am I doing something wrong or is this by
design?
Thanks,
Dino

oracle adapter + activerecord sessions do not work
Anyone know what''s up with the activerecord session store when using
the oracle adapter in Rails 2.0.2 ?
I can set a session variable and can then see it''s actually set using
the debugger, but after the request completes the session is empty
(the @data member is nil). The session_id is staying the same and the
updated_at field is being updated but nothing I put in a session

Newb question- method not working
I know this shouldn''t be in the view but to test the code it is.
Anyway if I do just session[user] I get back the user id (the id from
the user table)
which is good.
However this code does not work.
<% a = session[:user] %>
<% uname = User.find(:first, :conditions => id = a) %>
<%= @uname %>
TIA

Is anyone running Rails 2.x against a MS SQL Server DB?
I am unable to get ActiveRecord session support to work under 2.x
against a SQL Server database. I''m starting to wonder if anyone is
running 2.x against SQL Server?
Is anyone running under the following configuration:
Rails 2.x
SQL Server 2000 DB (using AR adapter in ODBC mode)
AR store for ActionController session store.
I''d like to chat with you if you are.
Thanks,

Replacing ActiveRecordStore::Session with a custom model
Has anyone managed to replace ActiveRecordStore::Session with their
own model?
In the source (http://dev.rubyonrails.org/browser/trunk/actionpack/lib/
action_controller/session/active_record_store.rb) it says you can
override the default by setting
CGI::Session::ActiveRecordStore.session_class = MySessionClass
I have tried doing this in a number of ways but I get all kinds of
weird errors, as

I want to set my app up to prevent multiple simultaneous logins by the

database session storage just for this?

Session in ActiveRecordStore
The Agile book seems to say I should specify this as follows, probably in the
environments.rb:
ActionController::CgiRequest::DEFAULT_SESSION_OPTIONS[:database_manager] =
CGI::Session::ActiveRecordStore
BUT the environments.rb file would have me Un-Comment this:
config.action_controller.session_store = :active_record_store
Anyway, I''ve tried both, and in both cases it

Problem with 0.13.1 ActiveRecordStore with PG 8.0.3.
Hi,
I put the following in my environment.rb file:
ActionController::CgiRequest::DEFAULT_SESSION_OPTIONS.update
(:database_manager => CGI::Session::ActiveRecordStore)
Runnning WEBrick via "script/server" and trying to load any page
served by a controller results in an error like the following:
#<ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: ERROR: null value in column "id"

MySQL index question
I am trying to speed up some DB operations and perhaps have gone overboard
with indexes. Does MySQL usually use only one index per query and simply
match keys on the results of the indexed first part? For example:
DELETE FROM tokens WHERE 6813946236211560448 <= fnv AND fnv < 6818449835838930944 AND updated_at<''2010-06-20 14:08:55'' AND occurrences=0;

serialized attribute converting to string on reload
Hello,
Anybody help me out? I done googled it good and didn''t find anything
(which should mean that I''ve done something wrong).
Not much code to talk about here, quite simply I have an attribute
that is serialzied and when I update it, irb shows the object and my
methods run on it as it were indeed so. Though when I reload it
changes the data to a string. Not yaml, just one

Sessid.
How can I get the sessid from the current session object?
For instance, I log in the system, and want to know which sessid I''m using.
I''m storing the session using active_record. Later on, I want to restore
a session finding it using the sessid.
Thanks in advance.

Not updating the updated_at field
This is for Rails 3.1.1
I have a field called last_seen in a model. This field will be updated
when the something about the record is seen in the real world (don''t
worry about this part)
So I go x.update_attribute(:last_seen, Time.now) and the following happens is
UPDATE "blah" SET "last_seen" = ''2012-10-23 08:57:46.179288'',
"updated_at"

How show validation errors in form_remote_tag?
I suspect this has been asked 400 times, but Google yields 2-3 rather
complex gymnastics in blogs (and possibly dated), and searching list
archives on ruby-forum proves kinda useless.
Using standard forms, it''s fairly easy to use
@object.errors[:field_name] in the form to embed an error message right
next to the field that has the invalid entry. The controller uses a
simple conditional

Sessions do not update created_at column?
Hi All,
I added a column to the sessions table called "created_at" in order to
allow the created time to be recorded.
However, different from other Models, the column does not update
automatically.
Therefore, what codes should I add to update the sessions."created_at"
value?
It is important for avoiding hacker keeping the sessions alive.
Thanks much!

ActiveRecord Sessions
I am considering using merb to process file uploads. For the most
part I''m going to keep it lean and mean. I would however like to
access my active_record_session from my Rails app. Is this built into
merb yet?
Or is it OK to just add require ''action_controller/session/
active_record_store'' to merb_init.rb and then create my own session
object
