Hello, I am just starting to research Asterisk and I would like to install it on a PC to try out. I have looked around quite a bit but I haven't found much information on the Linux part. I know you need to put Linux on the PC first but what version or flavor of Linux do you recommend? I have one of my asterisks off an xDSL modem with a dynamic IP address. The IP address keeps on changing so I am curious as to what other people are doing to work around this issue. I am contemplating to register for a dynamic DNS service but then my communications become dependent on the availability of this service. The "host=dynamic" for SIP seems interesting. As the small-spec machine with CentOS is heavily loaded/used I can't afford downtime. 20 GB, pentium II with only 128 MB RAM. However I want to know the news on 4.5 is it due soon? Can I gain more by running CentOS 3.x range on such an old machine like mine? Will CentOS 5.0 mean you need a minimum of 512 RAM?
