stub actions that depend on the parameter
Hi, I''m pretty new to all related to bdd and rspec and I have the following question. Is it possible to stub actions that return different objects depending on the parameteres they were called with? Something like this: MyClass.stub!(:method).with(1).and_return(@mock_object_1) MyClass.stub!(:method).with(2).and_return(@mock_object_2) I know I could use

Patch idea for rspec_on_rails
I recently wrote a matcher for testing AR associations which allows you to specify things like: Foo.should have_many(:bars).through(:bazes) I''m pretty darned proud of it and a couple of people have suggested that I should submit it to the rspec_on_rails project. Before I go to the trouble of writing out rdoc and fully spec''ing it, I just wanted to make sure this was

RSpec for dummies screencast?
Does anyone know of any RSpec screencasts for dummies, like me :) I have a Java background, but I have never written a java test in my life. I''ve never learned about TDD or BDD so I''m totally blank on everything that has anything to do with testing and stuff. Where should I start?!? ;) Christian... --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this

rspec with autotest on a windows machine
Hello all, I''m new to rSpec but after reading a couple of tutorials I''ve become enamored. Anyway, I am at minute 42 of the rSpec basics screencast ( peepcode.com) and I''m having the following error running autotest w/rSpec: D:\ruby\projects\forecaster>autotest loading autotest/rails_rspec c:\ruby\bin\ruby -rrubygems -e "require ''redgreen''"

I need some guidance
I''m building an http communicator class for a web service API wrapper and I''m trying to go through the BDD process in doing so. I''m having a bit of a struggle figuring out how to set up the tests in relation to isolating things appropriately as well as testing behavior vs testing implementation. Specifically, I''m trying to set up a post method on my

Any news on the rSpec books?
I admit it, when it comes to rSpec, I''m lazy. I''ve made a few feeble attempts to use it, but for once I''m waiting for a book-length treatment. At least two books were announced, I think. Can anyone in the know please report on their progress? Thanks Michael -- Michael Schuerig mailto:michael at schuerig.de http://www.schuerig.de/michael/

Feeding the framework ?
Hi there, Is it just me or do many other rspec / rpsec_on_rails users spend more time than they would like feeding the framework ? Don''t get me wrong, I love rpsec, but I seem to spend about 2/3 hours per week hunting down rspec problems. For example, today `rake spec:models` is broken. When I migrate, load fixtures and run `spec -cfs` all is well. When I run `rake spec:models`,

"Not Implemented" doesn''t show
I''m going through Peepcode''s Rspec Basics for an overview. He''s just doing a simple spec: class PeepCode end describe PeepCode do it "should be awsome" do end end So running spec spec/simple_spec.rb should produce according to his screen cast: 1 example, 0 failures, 1 not implemented but I only recieve: 1 example, 0 failures Also spec

buildr Windows 7 64 bit problems
Preface: I''m not overly familiar with the inner workings of RoR, so I apologize for my relatively superficial knowledge upfront I have a new 64 bit Windows 7 machine. My dev environment on my old machine which functions fine (sans a functioning monitor -- thus the new machine), I have the following installed and functioning well: Ruby 1.8.6 using the Windows MSI installer Buildr 1.3.3

Newbie: lambda do...end.should change(Model, :count).by(1). Doesn''t work
Hi to everyone, I''m an RSpec, and BDD in general, newbie so in order to learn I have chosen to use my personal website as a tesbed. I''m having difficulties juggling with mocks, and in particula with the following code. Here''s the controller action: def create @album = Album.new(params[:album]) if @album.save flash[:notice] = "album saved"

Build R on Haiku
Hi R-devel, I'm trying to get R 3.2.1 working on Haiku (an open source OS inspired by BeOS, not Linux based) on i586. With a few small changes to library paths and ifdefs I am able to get a seemingly working R binary. The build process stops with the 'tools' package. The last lines from make are below. Does anyone have any tips? I'm rather new to debugging at this low level. Are

outside-in = integration tests on views?
Hi, In the spirit of "outside-in" are given-when-then scenarios supposed to be integration tests of views? Or should we be accessing the model interfaces directly (not through a view)? Thanks, David :) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/rspec-users/attachments/20080229/dc6b1660/attachment.html

Rspec Brown Bag
Hello, I''m scheduled to give a rspec brown bag this Wednesday (11/22) for my company (Pivotal Computer Systems, http://www.pivotalsf.com). I did see Dave Astel''s talk as well as several of my coworkers. The developers at my workplace are experienced Agile developers. What would be some good things to focus on for this brown bag? Are there slides to presentations that would be

RSpec book?
<http://www.apress.com/book/bookDisplay.html?bID=10368> Came across this as a stub page browsing Amazon UK. This is good news! I''m surprised it hasn''t been discussed on the list before. Was Chad keeping it a secret? I hope it will have plenty of BDD theory. I''m still waiting for that magic book I can give to someone and say "here - read this, it

Rails, rSpec and BDD
I''ve decided that I want to use more automated tests because I''ve been intrigued by the idea of BDD. I am new to using tests, so I''m curious if there have been any writeup on using rSpec. This is one of the only ones I''ve found: http://blog.teksol.info/articles/2005/11/17/building-a-plugin-on-rspec It seems that the benefit of BDD is that it makes it

source /etc/profile
Hello , There is a way to source /etc/profile inside puppet on demand? My problem is that I install Java, afterwards I set JAVA_HOME variable in /etc/profile. After Java is installed, a gem which depends on Java starts to install ... but as it needs JAVA_HOME environment to be set, it fails. I am not sure what can I do ...
