Multipath-root (mpath) problems with CentOS 5
Hi list! I have a server with dual port Qlogic iSCSI HBA. I set up the same LUN for both ports, and boot the CentOS installer with "linux mpath". Installer detects multipathing fine, and creates mpath0 device for root disk. Installation goes fine, and the system boots up and works fine after the install from the multipath root device. After install the setup is like this: LUN 0 on

Qlogic Fibrechannel and detecting new LUNs on the fly
Hi there, I've installed a Qlogic HBA in a 4.8-STABLE machine and I'm able to present LUNs to this machine from an HDS array and use them. That all works perfectly. However, the only time I pick up new LUNs is on a reboot. Seems like I should be able to rescan the fabric and pick up new LUNs, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this. I tried camcontrol rescan, but that

stale dm-multipath mappings
Greetings, I've hit this exact 'bug': https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=491311 I need to remove the mappings manually. I assume this is done via 'multipath -F' followed by a 'multipath -v2' ? Has anyone experienced doing this on a production system? We can do it during hours of low activity, but we would prefer to keep the databases on this host online at

Qlogic HBA scanning issues with CentOS 5.1 ?
Hi, I got few servers (IBM HS20,HS21 blades, IBM xSeries 3650 & others) connected to a dual fabric san throught Qlogic HBA's (23xx, 24xx). Multipathing is done with device-mapper-multipath. On CentOS 4.x i can scan for new scsi devices without any problems, get them up with multipathing & use them without any problems. However, after i started installing CentOS 5.1 (did not

XEN HA Cluster with LVM fencing and live migration ? The right way ?
Hi, I am trying to build a rock solid XEN High availability cluster. The platform is SLES 11 SP1 running on 2 HP DL585 both connected through HBA fiber channel to the SAN (HP EVA). XEN is running smoothly and I''m even amazed with the live migration performances (this is the first time I have the chance to try it in such a nice environment). XEN apart the SLES heartbeat cluster is

Direct access from VM to LUN over FC with multipathing
Hi, Some body know how to attach a LUN directly to an VM? Is two node pool with storage over multipath FC tied by an Qlogic hba. I''m using lvmohba with out problems, but I want to assign it directly to VM to increase the throughput. Thanks for the advice. -- Atentamente, Julian M. Fibre Channel SAN + HBA + Xen = how ?
Hello, I have been looking around all day and lot''s of things are being thrown at me such as npiv and vscsi and such. I have an HITACHI,DF600F SAN which goes via two switch fabrics and plugs in to the dual port Qlogic HBA on the server(s). I have 4 Dell 2950''s at current which are under-utilised. I want to buy new 2xR710 and consolidate these 4 servers to a single physical

SCSI device not detected after 4.5 update
After updating to Centos 4.5, I found that one of the LUNs on an external SCSI array wasn't being detected. If I add the device manually after boot echo "scsi add-single-device 0 0 1 1" > /proc/scsi/scsi it is detected. I can then use the LVM tools to activate it and then mount the LV on the device. It doesn't seem to be kernel related as I rebooted into a 4.4 kernel and

Automatically detecting LUNs without a reboot
Hi everybody. I have an HP StorageWorks array connected to one of my servers, connected via an LSI controller (lspci reports: SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1068E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 08)) on an HP DL385 running CentOS 5.5 x86_64. I have set up multipath and all is working but, when I create a snaphost and export it as a new LUN from the HP web interface, it

Very high cpu waiting on xen domU
Hi, I have some xen domU on Centos 5.2 server. For some weeks i had a problem with "xen domU" performances. Indeed my xen domU spend a lot of time in cpu waiting. Reading some informations on the net it seems to come ith I/O heavy load. Using collectd in my domU to monitor the "traffic" on virtual disk and virtuel network i don't see heavy I/O rates. Thinking my dom0

Libvirt with multipath devices and/or FC on NPIV
Hello, I am trying to find out a best practice for a specific scenario. First of all I would like to know what is the proper way to set up multipath, who should care about it the host or the guest. Right now I have a setup where I have one multipath which sets my host to boot from FC SAN. I have another multipathed LUN in the host which is essentially a dm which I attached to a guest, however

SAN help
My CentOS 5.4 box has a single HBA card with 2 ports connected to my Storage. 2 Luns are assigned to my HBA card. Under /dev instead of seeing 4 devices I can see 12 devices from sdb to sdm. I am using qlogic driver that is bulitin to the OS. Has any one seen this kind of situation? Paras -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Before posting it to WIKI or somewhere, I want to see if there is any suggestions on it, or if I missed something. ============================================ How to use NPIV in libvirt I planned to wrote a document about how to use NPIV in libvirt after more features are supported, but it looks like I can't wait till then, got lots lots of questions from both the

Multipath pools - practical for use?
Hi all, Writing up some Fedora documentation, and looking to figure out the best way of mapping multipath network(!) LUNs to pools in libvirt. ie Infiniband SRP LUNs, but would probably apply to Fibre Channel equally as well. There are two approaches I can think of easily: a) Large LUNs (ie TB+) that are mapped to a host server as disk, with each LUN being configured as an LVM

Shared SAN disk LUN between 2 servers and migration problem
HI Dom0 is CentOS 5.2, 64-bit, Xen version 3.2.1 and 3.2.2. I got Fiber SAN disk system and 2 servers and i am making shared LUN available to both servers. Then i got multipath layer running on both Dom0s and so Xen is seeing device-mapper file, instead of two /dev/sdX devices, then i have setup Xen domU (HVM Windows 2003) using /dev/mapper/sharedLUN as physical storage to my windows server.

Sparse LUN's
Hi All, I've been chasing down a problem with LUN masking on CentOS5/RHEL5 hosts with QLogic HBA's for a few hours and seem to have got to an impass; Any device (disks in my case) on Non-sequential LUN's are not registered with the OS. This happens across various HBA models and kernel versions. FYI, I'm currently running the latest qlogic qla2xxx drivers (8.02.14.01) against

multipath using defaults rather than multipath.conf contents for some devices (?) - why ?
hi all We have a rh linux server connected to two HP SAN controllers, one an HSV200 (on the way out), the other an HSV400 (on the way in). (Via a Qlogic HBA). /etc/multipath.conf contains this : device { vendor "(COMPAQ|HP)" product "HSV1[01]1|HSV2[01]0|HSV300|HSV4[05]0" getuid_callout "/sbin/scsi_id -g -u -s /block/%n"

multipath using 2 NICs (or HBA?)
I'm told that we cannot do Multipath I/O on our iSCSI SAN on RHEL with 2 network cards. I could use 1 network card, but need an HBA. Is this true? Do I need an HBA, or can I do Multipath using 2 NICs? We're running RHEL 4 and CentOS 4 and 5 servers on this network. I have been reading through the device-mapper documentation, but I have not found anything (unless I'm not clear on
