please help - complicated polymorphic association
I am trying to build a shared-appointment system, where users can
subscribe to appointments and be updated whenever changes are made to
them. I have three objects in this system, appointments, users, and
subscribers. Subscribers are a polymorphic object like so:
class Subscriber < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :user
belongs_to :subscribable, :polymorphic => true
end
The tricky part is

Redirect Post for Hiding ID?
I have a situation where I want to show the user details about an
appointment they entered. They enter their name, phone number(s) and
other private data in a form. I save that data in the controller with
a POST from a "confirmation" page.
I could simply show the params when that page is rendered (the save
one), but if they use the browser refresh it''ll save the data again.

Active record question
I''m not quite sure how to get at this data using Actrive record.. I''m trying to get all the appointments made for a particular project. I''m using four models, Projects, Tasks, Resources and Appointments.
The SQL gets me what I''m looking for but how do I do it using Active Record?

looking for a way to do appointment reminders
Hello,
My health care organization is looking for a way to do appointment
reminders. We currently have staff members who spend part of each day
manually calling patients to remind them of their upcoming appointments,
and we would like to automate this process.
Our electronic health record software would provide such information as
the patient's name, phone number, and day and time of

ER strikes back
Hi Railers,
A long, long, time ago, i made a Framework/CMS in php.
There were two core models: Content and Content_type.
Content_type was only a list of content types (as expected): new, article, etc.
Content_type was not mandatory, but it allowed later to "deactivate"
types of contents, for example.
So then Content stored the common attributes/properties between the
different content

Dose Profile
Hi Everyone,
I have data in a long format e.g. there is one row per patient but each
follow-up appointment is included in the row. So, a snippet of the data
looks like this:

Time2 B1001029 LTG M 15719 30/04/2003 15825 150 106 29/08/2003 15946 200

find_all_by deprecated?
Is find_all_by deprecated and/or find_first_by for 2.0.2? If not,
what is actually deprecated? just find_all(..) and find_first()?
Thanks for clearing this up.

Find_all_by and find(:all) to only select certain values for a selection box
So....let''s have a look if I understood the issue:
-Find_all_by is actually the same like Find(:all), however Find_all_by
is much shorter and less complicated than the syntax of Find(:all)
-So in my CONTROLLER it says @files = find(:all) however I don''t want
to see all files displayed in my selection box, because I only want to
see the foles whose mandant_id is the same like

Appending a record to a table
Hi
I''m not too sure how best to explain this but here goes!
I am trying to write an appointment system. I have, through example,
just about got the dynamics correct. Even tried to play with some
table joins (and excuse me if I''ve used the incorrect terminlogy). But
no matter what I try I can''t seem to get the following code to work.
I have a cart filled with Treatment

return yr/mo archive of posts
looking at ways to return an archive, by year/month
in the past, (via php) i''d do something like pull all the entries,
ordered by date and iterate through them, doing a check on the month and
year and adding them to an array if there was a change
that method doesn''t really feel very fluid or rails-like.
any suggestions?

end
end

How to pick colums from a ragged array?
I have a large dataset (~1 million rows) of three variables: ID (patient's name), DATE (of appointment) and DIAGNOSIS (given on that date).
Patients may have been assigned more than one diagnosis at any one appointment - leading to two rows, same ID and DATE but different DIAGNOSIS.
The diagnoses may change between appointments.
I want to subset the data in two ways:

ActiveRecord, spec''ing find has right :order parameter
I''m wanting to write a spec that a model is applying an :order option
to a find call, but I don''t want to completely specify all of the find
parameters.
So I want to write something like this, say in a controller spec
User.should_receive(:find).with(:all, hash_with_at_least(:order =>
''user.name ASC''))
get ''index'', :sort =>

Autotest''ing specs on non-rails app
I''m having trouble using autotest with rspec on a non-rails project.
my Rspec gem is version 1.0.8, ZenTest is 3.6.2
project structure
$ ls *
lib:
parser.rb
spec:
parser_spec.rb
autotest finds and runs the spec, but it won''t detect changes to lib/parser.rb
I know it''s something stupid, but...

Which rspec for rails 2.1RC1?
I''m working on porting our app. Do I need to upgrade rspec from 1.1.3?
If so which version.
BTW the installation doc at
http://rspec.info/documentation/rails/install.html seems to be stuck
in the pre-git days.

Webrick Failing with Illegal Instruction
I''ve just started a new rails project (3.0.1, ruby 1.9.2 on Mac OS X),
and have a few parts of it built out. I''ve just created new
controller/views using rails g scaffold_controller Lesson, and then
added a route to routes.rb with "resources :lessons"
Now, when i go to /lessons, Webrick fails with "Illegal instruction"

Problems running features with Textmate Cucumber bundle
I finally plunked down for the beta RSpec bundle and I''m working
through the initial example. Although I''m a fairly experienced RSpec
user, I''m stlll learning new tricks.
Anyway, I''m going though the mastermind example, and everything is
going well, except that I decided to also try out the Textmate bundle
for Cucumber. I decided to use Ben Mabey''s

Branching scenarios, GivenScenario and database
I''m trying to use stories to drive some high-level design.
I''ve got some branching scenarios where I want to follow a scenario,
to establish a base situation, and then have different scenarios which
''branch'' out from that state, possibly several levels deep.
I asked a bit about this a few days ago, and David pointed out the
rather undocumented GivenScenario
