Newbie question - RPDB, policy routing etc...
Hello all,
I am going through the LARTC howto to understand how the iproute2 works.
But some concepts like Policy Routing, RPDB etc are not clear to me. I
am pretty new to iproute, beeing using route command for long...
From what I understand
1. rules (ip rule) tell how to select packets for routing and route (ip
route) tell where to route the selected packets.
2. A collection of rules is

Source policy routing in the HOWTO
Hello,
[I hope i''m on the lartc mailing list - i''m posting using gmane]
I used the "Linux Advanced Routing & Traffic Control HOWTO" for doing
source routing using iproute2.
The documentation would be perfect if the source routing page
<url:http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.html> mentionned you may have to

the routing cache and route selection; is this correct?
Hello all,
I do not read C very well (especially kernel C). Though I have tried to
muddle my way through an understanding of what''s going on in fib_hash.c,
fib_rules.c, and route.c, I have not succeeded to my satisfaction, hence
my post.
I''m trying to document the general process of route selection, and have
come up with the following overview. Could somebody point out any

Interface bound routing
Hi,
I''m sorry for "novice"-level question, but I hope your expert advice will
save me many painful hours running after my own tail...
Let assume I have Linux box with eth0, eth1 and eth2 interfaces. Each one
has IP assigned from different network. By default, IP address associated
with eth0 is chosen as default routing. My application creates thee TCP
sockets and explicitly

simple(?!?) source routing
Hi,
I''ve set up a Linux box with redhat on to act as an internet gateway and I''m running into a few problems. Its got two adsl modems connected to it, both connected to seperate 512kbs lines. Now I''ve followed the simple source routing in the advanced routing howto to the letter but it doesnt work.
I''ve got it autoconnecting on startup and redhat puts ppp1

FWMark routing trouble
Hi everybody,
I''m trying to set up routing for 2 links to the internet on a box which
produces traffic itself (e.g. DNS) and will route all our local
traffic.
AS one route is quick and expensive and the other one slow and cheap, I
want to be able to route packets for some high-level protocols to the
second link.
If I correctly understood table 3-2 in

conditional routing based on tos/fwmark not working with ipsec
Hello all,
I am working with kernel 2.2.20 with the necessary options configured into
the kernel to support all of the wonderfully fancy routing features:
- routing based on ToS
- routing based on fwmark
- multiple routing tables
This same kernel is in use elsewhere, and is routing based on fwmark with
success. This leads me to believe that my kernel is OK and that I have

Route P2P on separate link
Hello,
Is there a way to route p2p traffic on a separate ISP connection, just as
you would choose a separate connection for http traffic?
I tried all sorts of setups based on:
http://www.braindump.dk/en/wiki/?wikipage=PolicyRouting but with no luck.
Please help :)
(ipp2p is up and running)

routing question: multipath routing for SIP
I have two T1s and I'd like to split my SIP traffic over the two. I am
looking at this:
http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html
what bothers me about it is the note "Note that balancing will not be
perfect, as it is route based, and routes are cached. This means that routes
to often-used sites will always be over the same provider.". If all my
traffic goes to the same

Routing Load balancing and traffic shaping through 2 ISP links
Hello,
I started off by reading the Linux Advanced Routing & Traffic Control Howto, then searched a bit around the web.
I see many documents discussing these matters with kernel 2.2.x but they are quite old, something around 1998-2000.
I have some questions but I might as well start by exposing my setup to clarify things.
I have a couple of internet links: a leased line of 256kbit/s and an

Problem with routing 2 isps with 2.6.15 kernel
Doing routing based on this:
http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html
Have done it for over a year.
Tried a new 2.6.15 kernel.
Firewall is based on debian sarge.
Most things work ok dnat snat etc.
Can simultaneous ssh in to an internal host via both isps with no problems.
At the moment the default route is via eth2.

Routing for multiple uplinks and SNAT to 2 source IPs
Hi,
I configured a router box to use 2 providers, as described
in the HOWTO. (Apendix 1)
I want to use both links to reach a single smtp server. As I read
in the kptd and in some old messages of this list, doing a SNAT
in the postrouting chain comes _after_ the routing desision.
So I guess the following lines I''m trying to use are wrong.

Weird routing problem (2 internet connections)
Hello,
I have a very strange problem that I can''t seem to be able to figure out.
First of all: my network scheme: http://heavyg.safehex.be/network.png
I have an agreement with my neighbour that I can use his wireless
network to experiment with extra internet uplinks in exchange for some
filesharing etc.
Now I have set up a wireless router at my place, that connects to his
network.

multipath routing question
Hi All,
I have a linux router, configured with two internet connections and two
lan segments. I''ve setup multipath routing as described in
http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html
My problem (I think) is that somehow the router will randomly choose
incorrect routing paths for different hosts, for example:
on my workstation (192.168.1.20), I ssh to a server I have on an

Advanced Policy Routing not working properly
Hi list, I''m trying to setup a Linux box with a complicated source
routing and could use a hand from you.
The box has 4 NICs and lots of VLANs attached. It is a firewall and
router in the following scenario: (obs: IP addresses have being changed
for security purposes)
- eth0 holds the default route (GW: 200.1.0.1, Firewall: 200.1.0.2);
- The box is routing and sometimes source

fda problems - version correct?
Dear friends - I am trying to understand fda and working with the 2009
book from Springer. I run the scripts directly from a new installed fda
library and include sessionInfo() below. This is from the script
fdarm-ch09.R - I seem to have got not fda_2.2.8 but 2.2.7 - is that
the problem? Where do I get .8 as I just reinstalled? Best wishes

I am wondering if anyone can help me to resolve a problem.
I am trying to use tc command in linux to drop udp
packets of specific diffserv value.
I am able set diffserv value successfully in the udp packet
using command:-

Routing based on source address
Hi,
Is it possible to create a routing rule that depends on the source
host/network, besides the target host/network?
E.g. route everything from 192.168.0.x to 10.0.0.1, and route everything
from 192.168.1.x to 10.0.0.1.
TIA
