form helpers don't seem to work with RJS files...
I’ve been spending a great deal of time chasing this problem. Hopefully someone sees something obvious I’m doing wrong. Basically anytime I try to call fields_for from an RJS file or within a partial in the RJS file, I get the following error. My goal is simply to load a partial into a div. The fields in this partial require fields_for though. And that’s where the problem lies.

AJAX Preview & Edit Page Problem
I''m new to RoR and have started building my first application. I''m building an account sign-up controller and I have two questions: 1. What is the best way to pass form params between methods in my sign-up controller? The solution I''m using seems too hacky and there''s got to be a something more elegant. I''m instantiating User.new to capture the

Rails 3 with Mongrel possible?
After much fiddling and googling, it seems to me that Mongrel, even the 1.2.0pre2 release is not compatible with Rails 3 -- is that true? When I start up a new Rails 3 project (i.e. one fresh after a `rails new` command), mongrel appears to start (creates a pid file, and reports no errors on the CLI), but the app does not load in the browser and I find this in the mongrel.log

Forceing PUST vs. POST in form
I am experimenting with a combined form. I wish to force the HTTP verb for this form to PUT. However, it always uses POST when submitted and I cannot determine why. The view template code is: <%=form_for( @user, :html => { :class => :edit_user_role, :id => :edit_user_role_form, :method => :put }, :url => user_roles_url( @user ) )

I currently have a model that simply contains one datetime field: class CreateElectricityReadings < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :clocks do |t| t.datetime :time_keeper t.timestamps end end def self.down drop_table :clocks end end If I enter the date string "13/10/2010" into this field its showing up in the controller as

Where did this value in a form come from?
Newb here. I have a form and a value that is being displayed ... and I have no idea where the value came from. I have done a <%= debugger; '''' %> in the form and, indeed, the debugger stops at the statement. I have tried to trace through the code to see where the value came from ... and I gave up. So ... what in Rails initializes the fields of a form? -- Posted via

Uploading photos
Hi all, Learning RoR (and loving it!) to develop a website. A requirement of the website is enabling users to upload photos to be made viewable (dynamically) on the website. Is this something I can develop with RoR? Thanks, Jeff -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Talk" group. To post to this group, send email to

HTML and CSS to PDF
I would like to take a rails page and convert it to a pdf. I don''t want to have to generate the code myself for making the pdf, so it should obey css. What is the best tool for doing this?
