sd_max_throttle
Hello,
we are using hardware array and its vendor recommends the following setting in
/etc/system:
set sd:sd_max_throttle = <value>
or
set ssd:ssd_max_throttle = <value>
Is it possible to monitor *somehow* whether the variable becomes
sort of bottleneck ? Or how its value influences io traffic ?

64-bit CentOS - your experience
Hello,
one of our developers is developing his Web applications (PHP-based+MySql) on 64-bit Fedora. He would like to use the same, 64-bit environment on CentOS. I am not against 64-bits (we use it for many, many years using Solaris) but what concerns me is the stability of 64-bit Linux. Can you share your experience regarding stability of 32-bit and 64-bit CentOS ? Does anybody use 64-bit CentOS

Missing php* packages
Hello,
I am trying to migrate one of our fedora-based servers to CentOS. Our PHP developers doesn't allow us to switch because there are no crucial (for them) php packages:
php-smarty
php-adodb
php-accelerator
It is not acceptable for us to download sources and compile them and repeat the process each time there is a security bug.
Can you recommend any repository which will deliver all the

Centos under (vmware vs KVM)
Hello,
we are using several centos servers under Vmware. We are having more
and more requests for server space for each business application (let assume
that these business requests are for different type of services:
databases, web apps, application servers etc.
I wonder which solution is better:
1. new CentOS under vmware (having several CentOS servers under Vmware)
or
2. new CentOS under KVM

Trigger after yum update
Hello,
we have installed non-repository based software on our centos servers (e.g. vmware tools).
Each time we do 'yum update' we have to run several scripts to check if these software
works after update.
Sometimes we forget ...
It it possible to configure any sort of triggers which will
run automatically after 'yum update' ?
I'd like to avoid writing shell wrappers for yum

'yum update' rollback or .. ?
Hello,
we have several physical servers (CentOS 5.*) with rather critical applications where (because of stability)
we don't do regularly 'yum update'. In virtualized environemnts (under Vmware)
we do a snapshot, then 'yum update', reboot and if something is wrong we rollback the snapshot.
On physical servers we cannot do that. I have read about rollback option of rpm but not

[Bridge] LAN-WAN Bridging Problem
Hello,
I am experiencing what may be a unique problem with operating the
bridge. My hardware is custom Freescale MPC875 processor based with one
ethernet (eth0) and one hdlc (hdlc0) WAN port and I am connecting two of
these boards together using the WAN ports over a long distance -
essentially two bridges in series. They are running Linux 2.6.15 with
bridging enabled in the kernel

Bridging lan over wireless link
Hi all,
I want to create a bridge (see picture below) between 2 LANs with the same IP range (192.168.0.0/24) using 2 wireless links that use load sharing over multiple interfaces (as descibed here: http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.loadshare.html) for load balancing and fault tolerance. Both links should use IPsec for encryption.
I have googled for an example that does this but I could not find it.

Routing by interface as opposed to ip address?
Hello all,
Does anyone know of a methodology to build a route based on the inbound
and outbound interfaces as opposed to ip addresses? We are essentially
trying to forward packets from one interface to another without looking
at the ip address. Bridging (brctl, br2684ctl) will not work in this
case as the interfaces use different layer 2 encapsulation (e.g.,
atm0<=>eth0, or

[Bridge] Bridging two private lans w/ PPP and brtcl
Hi all, I'm trying to do the following (ASCII art diagram viewable in
fixed-width font at end of message):
Take 2 private LANs, seperated by the internet, and bridge them by
creating a bridge from 2 ethernet devices and a ppp interface tunneled
over ssh between the two linux boxes concerned.
The setup on each of the two networks is nearly identical, and is as follows:
The network has

Routing for multiple interfaces (marking ports)
Hello guys,
I am still in doubt about this kind of server. So my question is about
the "prio" at routing tables like:
I have 3 tables in /etc/iproute2/rt_tables:
201 201
202 202
222 222
In table 201 there is the rules about my internet link (frame relay)
that comes into eth0. So I made this route into it:
[root@ns2 iproute2]# ip route show table 201

--set-mark policy routing problem
In its current configuration one of our Linux boxes has 2 DSL modems
that connect to the same service provider. On the router packets coming
in from the network destined for the internet are marked alternating
using nth match those packets are supposed to be picked up by iproute2
and routed out the physical connections based on that mark, thereby
doubling the outbound bandwidth. The problem is

How to bind 2 WAN 1 LAN ?
You need a combination of iptables and iproute2 to do what you want =
because
routing is based on it's DESTINATION address and you need to route on =
your
SOURCE address so it uses a different route depending on which source =
IP is
in the packet..
Refer to this page which is sort of what you want BUT not exact. It'll =
give
you some ideas...

bridge stops bridging
I recently upgraded my gateway to a pIII 600 with a zyxel 4 port nic
(tulip) and bridge eth0 and eth1, eth0 is a crossover cable to my PC
eth1 a switch.
I don''t have ifconfig on this box (LFS) and couldn''t find any examples
of bridging using ip - maybe this is relevant maybe not - I''ve tried a
few combinations of different orders of setting things up. Is there a

Routing - new table
Hello,
I have tested a simple thing in two version of Linux and there was a
problem when I have used fwmark as a selector for rule lookups. As you
can see below on the Slack, the <test> table doesn''t have any label
about fwmark. Is there an iproute problem?

PHP probes
Hi all,
I remember at OSCON 2005 there was talk of adding DTrace probes
to PHP (in fact, I have a photo of Bryan and Wes working on it!).
Did they ever get into the upstream branch, ''cause I don''t recall
seeing a --enable-dtrace (or similar) configuration option when
I recently built PHP 5.2.1. If not, is there an ETA?
TIA,

RES: ADVANCED ROUTING USING IPROUTE2 -> Multiple Firewalls
Hi William. Thanks a lot for your help.
Im having some trouble recompiling my kernel after a installed the
patch.
Im running RH 7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-3.
The patch I installed is routes-2.4.16-6.diff. I got no errors
installing it.
I added the multipath support, and recompiled it.
The make dep and the make bzImage went fine.
I got error during the make modules.
These are the errors:
