help with HTB and tc
Help me ...
I try use the tc filter, but seems he doesn''t work, I already
reconfigured my kernel ( 2.4.32 ) with all options related a QOS
enabled ( like modules ) and nothing happens. I get the tc tool from
HTB source package, well this is my set :
eth0 is my internal NIC.
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 12
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate

For leaf classes is best PFIFO or SFQ?
Hi to all,
i''m following this guide (http://www.opalsoft.net/qos/DS-28.htm), is very
detailed, but i''m a bit confused about queuing disciplinse of leaf classes.
In this guide the author uses PFIFO (see the scheme that i attached at
message) in this way:
# tc class add dev eth0 parent 1:21 handle 210: pfifo lmit 10
# tc class add dev eth0 parent 1:22 handle 220: pfifo lmit 10

HTB problem running on VLAN, not working
Hello.
I''m running linux box with Slackware 9.1 and compiled kernel 2.4.31 with "yes" to VLANs and "yes" to all QoS.
On this box i have more ethernet interfaces:
eth0
eth1
eth2
and so as more vlan interfaces:
eth0.100
eth1.3
eth1.4
This is entrace(uplink) router to our whole network and my goal is to shape users on this machine.
I want for this purpose use HTB so

tc/htb QoS script
hello folks,
this is my first post to that list. so I hope I am not completely OT
here :-)
reading the (excellent!) lartc and then writing my own qos-script I have
still some open questions which I will try to formulate now:
- "Now we can optionally attach queuing disciplines to the leaf classes.
If none is specified the default is pfifo." - I can''t find info about
Pfifo.

PRIO and CBQ
Hi,
I''m work on traffic shaping and I would like to know if it''s possible to mix
differents Queueing Disciplines ??
I would like to combine the proporties of a PRIO discipline with that of a
CBQ discipline.
I read some documentation and I found nothing about that, can you help me ?
I think to try something like that :
tc qdisc add dev $DEV root handle 1: cbq …
tc class add dev

SFQ latency
Anyone notices that using sfq qdisc adds latency compared to pfifo?
With "sfq perturb 10" ping latency is around 100-120ms, while with "pfifo
limit 3" drops to ~10-30ms (qdiscs belong to htb class).
I''m missing something or is this expected?
{
$TC_CLASS parent 1:1 classid 1:20 htb prio 0 rate 900kbit ceil 1000kbit burst
7k
$TC_QDISC parent 1:20 handle 200: {pfifo

Testing if tc works as configured and shaping rtp traffic
Hi,
I have implemented qos at my gateway, mostly for speeding up dns and
[video, voice] chat traffic and to slow down p2p traffic. It seems every
thing is working properly, as by browsing speed has been improved. But I
want to test it by sending various traffic and to see through which
qdisc the traffic flows, so that i can be certain that it is working
the way I want it to work.
The rules

Then I make 2 classes 999 and 998
And make many many (near 60) leafs attached to 998
root
! !
999 998 ---...---> many leafs
root attached to ethernet dotQ subinterface
999 make rate where high (50Mbit) but according to

How to priorize VoIP in a Wi-Fi scenario? Default qdisc in Linux, PRIO, HTB and HFSC ...
Hi all,
Long email but please be patient :)
I am part of EHAS [1], a non profit organization which main goal is to
improve the Healthcare assistance in isolated rural areas in developing
countries.
Recently we have developed a long distance Wi-Fi network in Cuzco
(Peru). This network provides connectivity to 12 nodes (they are in fact
Health Centers). As VoIP is a essential service in this

FW filter unused/unloaded ???
Hi all.
I''ve written a small htb script that uses U32 and FW (marked by IPTABLES) filters, but TC doesn''t seem to be using the "cls_fw.o" module !!!
I''m using redhat v9.0, kernel 2.4.8-20, iproute 2.4.7-7.
Here is my script:

PRIO / CBQ / HTB queue drop algorithm
Hello all.
I''ve been struggling to QoS VoIP at our site and have a successful
implementation at this point. Basically I had to set aside enough
bandwidth for VoIP by placing all other traffic behind an HTB (multiple
classes and queues behind it). Everything is fine. Here''s the diagram:

classless qdisc and classful qdisc
Hello, I''m still new in using tc...I wanna ask...
1. what is the difference between classless and classful qdisc?? when I made
a qdisc, are I must create both of that qdisc...???
2. what is the difference beetween three of the classless qdisc in linux
redhat 2.4, sfq pfifo and tbf if I using the htb classful qdisc ??? because
when I use htb classful qdisc it means I made a qdisc that

HTB & Bdw Guarantee
Hello,
I have problems setting up HTB.
This is my setup :
NET 1024/256 ADSL
||
eth1
Linux Firewall
eth0
||
LAN 10.a.a.a
I want to GUARANTEE for an IP (10.x.y.z) a 800kbit
bandwidth for HTTP download.
But When 10.x.y.z does no HTTP download, other trafic
must get the whole bandwidth, of course.
The script I use (see below) is quite the same as
presented at (the greeeeat page) :

Suggestion - table of QoS mechanisms
Hi,
A thought for the list. As I mentioned in another
posting, there are a lot of QoS mechanisms out there.
Linux supports some, but not all. Some patchsets add
others, but don''t work for all kernels. There are also
userland implementations, usually sitting in software
routers, but there are other packages.
Would it be helpful if I worked on a table of what''s
out there for

about the traffic control
Hi, all:
I''m involved in the study about the QoS,but have some problems , hope
someone could help me answer:
1. Why most traffic shaping implement in the egress side (Uplink) rather
than the ingress side(Dnlink)?(e.g. why put the police rule on the smaller
bandwidth side but not put on the larger side)
2. I can''t differ the functionalities exactly

linux bridging and htb.init / cbq.init
Hello,
I''am successful using a linux (2.4.20) bridge and the cbq.init_v0.7
script for traffic shaping. But I can only use the queuing discipline
tbf (LEAF=tbf). If I try use queuing discipline sfq or none then tc
applies the rules but no shaping occurs.
Is this problem a normal behavior when using bridging ?
I tried to use htb.init (using patched tc binary). It accepts
the rules but
