Deploying my rails app to GoDaddy
So I''ve written my first real-world RoR app and I''m now getting ready to deploy it. Unfortunately, my client decided to use GoDaddy as the hosting provider and based on what I''ve seen so far from the web, it''s not really the smoothest or ideal hosting for RoR apps. There were several posts here that I tried to follow but they were kinda old (2008, 2007). Most of

Deploying in Dreamhost
What pain. I am ready to switch hosts. I have this app in Dreamhost where I load the static pages just fine. The location of my rails app is /home/username/webaddress.com Under that resides the app/, public/ and so on. Like I said I can see my static pages that I have under public since I have in the Managed host panel the following: Web Directory: /home/username/[ webaddress.com/public

Refactoring ActiveRecord's private methods
As it currently stands, ActiveRecord has alot of private and protected methods in the Base class. >> ActiveRecord::Base.methods.size => 427 >> ActiveRecord::Base.protected_methods.size => 32 >> ActiveRecord::Base.private_methods.size => 193 I really loved the suggestion by Courtenay in Refactoring AR::Base.find (http://groups.google.com/group/rubyonrails-core/

Fails to restart mongrel cluster after Capistrano rollback (PIDs not deleted)
Hi, I am deploying a Rails website using Capistrano to a VPS running the site through Apache and Mongrel. ''cap deploy'' works fine, and mongrels are restarted. When I execute ''cap deploy:rollback'', however, my script fails to restart the mongrels giving this error: !!! PID file tmp/pids/mongrel.5000.pid already exists. Mongrel could be running already.

Scope and specing models
Hello all, I''m currently having an issue with some specs, specifically scope issues (probably more of a scope issue than a spec issue at this point)... Here''s the error: ActiveRecord::AssociationTypeMismatch in ''A new User should know what role it has'' Role expected, got NilClass D:/ruby/projects/restful_authentication_test/config/../app/models/role.rb:5:in

Upgrade to 1.0.8 broke Rake
Hello Guys. I''m upgrading a project from 0.9.8 to 1.0.8, following this procedure: * Removed vendor/plugins/rspec* completely. * installed rspec and rspec_on_rails from svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/tags/REL_1_0_8 * Run script/generate rspec to update spec_helper and spec.opts Now, when running rake, get the following error: superclass mismatch for class Annotation The following

Rails Deploy Files - Remove?
So, now that we''re using Mongrel and not the horrid FCGI, do I really need these files in my Rails apps: dispatch.fcgi dispatch.cgi .htaccess ?? The .htaccess file has rules for rewriting that look FCGI based. For Mongrel, I do my Apache re-writing in my config file, right? is there a reason to include these files at this point? Hunter

authentication, controller specs. I think I''m missing something simple ....
Hi all, I feel like I''m missing something really easy and I''m just not seeing it. I''m using the restful_authentication plugin and have a User model. Uesr has_many :things and Thing belongs_to :user. That''s it. I did a "script/generate rspec_scaffold thing" to generate all the necessary bits. The "rake db:migrate" to create the db. At

redcloth gem ragel code doesn''t build in jruby
I tried to install RedCloth-3.274 in jruby (trunk) but the install failed when RedCloth tried to build the C code using mkmf: I forget whether SuperRedcloth ever did build in JRuby?? I know Hpricot (which also uses ragel which can compile to Java code) works in JRuby -- with the patch here: https://code.whytheluckystiff.net/hpricot/ticket/131) I might be confusing the two ... FYI: If you

Spec failing [Possible Bug with kind_of? and instance_of?]
I have a spec which is failing, but I just can''t say why. Maybe I''m missing something painfully obvious? Here is the pastie of the results & the spec: http://pastie.caboo.se/42626 The spec to look for is "should have an array of users" I''ve printed out ("puts''ed") to the terminal the fact that the values are *opposite* to what

What do you think of this controller spec?
Here''s a controller spec I wrote, it''s for a very simple RESTful controller (well, aren''t all RESTful controllers simple? :) I''ve created a couple spec helper methods to refactor some of the common code...for example, require_login_and_correct_user creates two specifications: one for when the user isn''t logged in, and one when the user is logged in but

All the sql is being generate correctly, I checked the log. Here''s a pastie with the code in question. http://pastie.caboo.se/84337 --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received

ParameterMatcher backwards compatibility broken
I''ve just committed (revision 194) a first stab at supporting optional parameter matching. More about this later, but in the meantime I wanted to warn anyone bold enough to be working with "edge" Mocha, that any custom parameter matchers they have written will be broken by this change. However it is easy enough to fix them. You need to derive the matcher from

ROR deployment on Apache - DocRoot set to /
I am trying to get a ROR app running on a linux box running Apache 1.3 at my hosting comapny, but cannot get it running. There is a fresh/clean ROR app in the base directory / .htaccess, dispatch.cgi, dispatch.fcgi and dispatch.rb are all in / All dispatch files have been set to 755. ROR docs say to point doc root at /public/ and to put .htaccess, dispatch.cgi, dispatch.fcgi and dispatch.rb

Memory leak in PerFieldAnalyzer
Hello everyone, we''ve recently discovered a memory leak in the PerFieldAnalyzer. If you use the PerFieldAnalyzer (which you acutally should), you should switch to a pure ruby version of that analyzer. The C version of the Analyzer is consuming memory on every analyzing request. You can find an example script to verify the leak[1]. Furthermore we''ve added a workaround, building

AAF not searching associated record data
I''m using AAF to search through an AR model, with fields from associated tables included through helper methods in the AR class. The search is working perfectly for the model''s fields, but the data from the associated records aren''t included, it seems. Pastie: http://pastie.caboo.se/93667 I''ve made sure it''s not just a matter of rebuilding the index,

Autotest and RSpect
I managed to have Autotest running on my windows box. Apparently all is working but every time I know there is an error a new line is generated, no error messages or anything is sent to the console. I am using pastie now (thanks to David), please go to: http://pastie.caboo.se/106155 Daniel -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
