Is it possible to shape variable bandwidth?
Hello LARTC, Internet connection - ADSL, interface nas0 (115kbit guarantied, up to 1mbit possible. Depends on ISP load, impossible to guess). Internal interface LAN, eth0. Is it possible to successfully shape download traffic on eth0 using HTB? Classes must have guarantied rate calculated from 115kbit possible rate (for example 3 classes) and the possibility to borrow up to 1mbit (depends on ISP

That''s download traffic we''re talking about, since you seem to be shaping on your local LAN interface? Variable rate ISPs are tough to shape right, I guess... Does this 115kbit vs.

how to borrow bandwith
Hi,All I am using iproute2 to manage bandwith for ADSL router.High, medium, low priority are needed for different protocol port on the ADSL's upstream side,as following: LAN --- |ADSL Router|------WAN When there aren't traffic on the specific priority, its bandwidth should be borrowed by other priorities. But it doesn't work. Here is my script: /usr/sbin/tc qdisc del dev nas0 root

[Bridge] Problem with Routed mode using br2684ctl tool
Hi, I am writing this email in sincere hope that somebody experienced similar/same problem and found solution to it. The classical bridge setup could be achieved using brctl tool, which could be found at: http://home.regit.org/br2684.html I have an ADSL CO line card Linux based [2.4.24 kernel] with 8 nas interfaces and eth0. Rather than having bridge, the decision was to have a router, which

HTB: Problem with excess bandwidth distribution
Hello, I have a serious problem with HTB which I wasn''t able to solve myself. I run a masquerading router with ppp0 as interface to the Internet. Three clients need to share a downstream of 1 MBit, which I want to divide with tc. When I see a packet being forwarded to one of these clients, I give it the appropriate unique mark: iptables -t mangle -A FORWARD -d 192.168.34.141 -j MARK

Shaping of local transparent proxy services.
Hello. My situation looks like: localnet 10.2.1.0/24 | 10.2.1.1 eth0 (100Mbit) gateway ppp0 (DSL 1MBit/256kbit) | internet On gateway I have some transparent proxy services. I would like to shape traffic incoming from internet and guarantee some bandwidth for non proxy services. When I shape traffic I shape proxy services too. What I can do? With regards Xperience

can't figure out how to shape the traffic

which interface to shape for ppoe?
I think I understand what''s going on, thanks to a small mistake ;-) I needed to add a 5th nic to the gateway box - this new nic was an identical mate for another isa in there, so I modified the module options accordingly. So, after 10 minutes of trying to figure out why the DSL device was unwilling to talk to, well, anything - it occurred to me that the new card was the next address up,

What is the reccomended minimum rate for leaf htb class for accurate operation?
Hi, I''m trying to setup QoS in my TSL box. Following to mailing list reccomendations I changed PSCHED_CPU but can''t get accurate shaping with HTB. I have disabled HYSTERESIS also (by setting it to 0). I have Intel Celeron 1.8Mhz (TSC supported I think). ******** My script ****** tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 22 r2q 10 # Class corresponding interface

for testing/examiniation: updated esfq patch for 2.6.4
Since I admin the gateway for a network of bandwidth-greedy machines, I figured that esfq with "hash src" would be a more fair allocation of bandwidth than sfq. Unfortunately, there didn''t seem to be a recent patch for 2.6, so I endeavored to build one. The three patches I made (described below) are available within the attached tar.bz2 or at: http://fatooh.org/esfq-2.6/ 1. I

Active directory and winbind RID/SID to uid and gid maping across several linux servers
We are using a windows server 2003 active directory as our single sign on server. I have been able to get our RHEL4U6 servers to authenticate with active directory. My concern is that the RID mapping to unix uid/gid range (15000-20000) is stored locally on each machine in a tdb database. So far all of the servers have produced the same mapping, but I do not think it is guarantied. I think the

How to find the NIC Capacity / Bandwidth ?
Hi, Any body having idea to find the NIC Capacity / BW (10 / 100 Mbps) ? Whether the interface may be eth0/eth1/ppp0 or some other. Is there any related IOCTL avialable, if so just give the linux-2.4.18 file path. thanks, Srikanth. _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list / LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl http://mailman.ds9a.nl/mailman/listinfo/lartc HOWTO: http://lartc.org/

limiting bandwidth on iface
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi there! Well, as an exercise, I try ''simulating'' an adsl link (just the speed ;o)) with a GRE tunnel and HTB for bandwidth limiting. Typically in germany adsl has about 1024kbit downstream and 128kbits upstream (yes, there are others ;) but these are what I have) - which are the values i try to simulate. Here is the snipped that

HTB traffic shaping + squid cache proxy
Hello! My system is: Internet ADSL(PPPoE) ---> ppp0 [LINUX server(router)] eth0 ---> LAN Server(router) is running on LINUX Slackware 8.1. I have recompiled a 2.4.22 kernel, enabled all QoS support in the kernel config, including HTB. My ADSL bandwidth is 256Kbit/s for download and 64Kbit/s for upload. I use the following HTB+IPTABLES configuration, because I want to reduce bandwith for

shape outgoing/upload traffic PER-IP.
does anyone know a way to shape outgoing/upload traffic per ip? I have a network and i want to limit the upload with 100kbit per user. Ex: 192.168.1.20 ----> 1024kbit-DOWN / 100kbit-UP 192.168.1.21 ----> 1024kbit-DOWN / 100kbit-UP and so on....... Ive tried CBQ and HTB, but couldnt get is right. the only thing that I did in upload bases was: "tc qdisc add dev ppp0 root tbf rate
