devtools 0.6
# devtools
The aim of `devtools` is to make your life as a package developer
easier by providing R functions that simplify many common tasks.
Devtools is opinionated about how to do package development, and
requires that you use `roxygen2` for documentation and `testthat` for
testing. Future version will relax these opinions - patches are

delay displaying rmagick resizing of uploaded images
Hi,
I am using rmagick to resize a copy of uploaded images and display the
copy as a thumbnail. Once the upload is processed it redirects the user
to a page that should display the thumbnail to the user. The problem is
that the rmagick resize function seems to keep going in the background
after handing the new images url (and control) back to rails, which then
happily renders the page with

Displaying images from PostgreSQL large objects
I''ve got a bunch of images stored in a pgsql database as large
objects. Currently I use a PHP script to display the images, but I''d
like to do it in Rails. I followed the example of sending files/data
at http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/HowtoUploadFiles but all
the images that get sent are corrupted, apparently. Do I need to do
something different because it''s

RMagick and thumbnails
I''ve based my code on the Agile example for uploading files, pages
362-365. I''ve successfully loaded the Picture object to the database,
but I come unstuck when trying to replicate this for a thumbnail version
of the original image:
thumbnail = Thumbnail.new
thumbnail.name = ''thumbnail_'' + @picture.name.to_s

error: uninitialized constant
total rails nuby here. I have a table "thumbnails", hence the model
Thumbnail. I''m extending the Thumbnail class with a few constants
needed for thumbnail cropping:
class Thumbnail < ActiveRecord::Base
SOURCE_FILE_PATH = "path/to/source"
TARGET_FILE_PATH = "path/to/target"
TARGET_WIDTH = 100
TARGET_HEIGHT = 100
end

validate() with has_many association
I''m creating a simple portfolio site for a painter. I have a painting
and an image model with following relationship:
Painting
has_many :images
Image
belongs_to :painting
On the edit screen the user can edit the Painting data as well as upload
pictures for a thumbnails and full size image. The Image model extracts
filename, width, and height from the uploaded file, saves those

ImageMagick and EXIF Data
Hi there,
I''m writing a little application that parses an image file and extracts the
camera settings from the file (the EXIF data) and saves all the fields to
the database. The idea is that after awhile people will be able to search
based on camera make, model, lens settings, etc... and all the pictures that
meet those requirements will be displayed. The picture is stored on the file

Instantiating middleman and worker from inside a model?
In short: how (if possible) would i go about arranging it so that i
can instantiate a middleman and set a worker going from within a
method in one of my models? or is this a weird thing to be wanting to
do? (
My specific situation: I have an ''Image'' model in my application. An
actual image file associated with the model is being stored on

Possible BUG on rails 2.2.3 with ruby 1.8.7 patchlevel 174
Try this in a view running rails 2.2.3 with ruby 1.8.7. I tried in
1.8.6 and worked just as expected. But in 1.8.7 it doesn''t execute the
code inside a condition that has a comment. Sample:
<% if (@var)%>
@var is nil so it wont get in here
<% else # a comment %>
it must to get in here, but it doesnt unless the comment in the above
condition is removed.
<% end %>

Dynamically setting the image directory used by attachment_fu
It took me a while to figure this out and I don''t see any wiki pages
for attachment_fu so I figure I would just post this here.
I didn''t like the way attachment_fu by default creates directories
under a given directory for a specific class e.g.
item_image/1/img_1.jpg
item_image/1/img_1_thumb.jpg
item_image/2/img_2.jpg
item_image/2/img_2_thumb.jpg
item_image/3/img_3.jpg
