Patch to allow for the ATM "cell tax"
I have been trying to optimise my ADSL connections for VOIP.
Funny things were happening - for example increasing the ping
packet size by 50% had no effect, but then adding one byte
had a major effect. It took me a while to figure out that I
was seeing the effects of the fixed ATM cell size.
This is probably obvious to some of you. For the rest: ADSL
uses ATM as its transport. An ATM

[Bridge] Problem with Routed mode using br2684ctl tool
Hi,
I am writing this email in sincere hope that somebody
experienced similar/same problem and found solution to
it.
The classical bridge setup could be achieved using
brctl tool, which could be found at:
http://home.regit.org/br2684.html
I have an ADSL CO line card Linux based [2.4.24
kernel] with 8 nas interfaces and eth0. Rather than
having bridge, the decision was to have a router,

has anyone tried adsl-optmizer kernel patches for dsl modems?
Hi
I''m using wondershaper like script. But noticed imperfect scheduling.
By googling, I found some patches that takes the aal5 atm overhead in
the scheduling algorithms.
http://www.adsl-optimizer.dk/ADSL-optimizer/
Before trying it, has anyone tried these patches? they apply on 2.4.29
kernel and 2.6.9 TC. I use centos4 with a 2.6 kernel, so I can''t try
these easily.
Thanks

Patch accurate packet scheduling for ATM/ADSL
Hi,
I use the patch
(http://ace-host.stuart.id.au/russell/files/tc/tc-atm/) for accurate
the packet scheduling on ATM/ADSL link and i think I''ve found a bug.
I tried to write to the author but he didn''t answer me.
I work on a Linux 2.6.17 with the iproute2-2.6.18-061002 package.
I change the type of the cell_align char to short of the struct
tc_ratespec in the file pkt_sched.h

Nothing against CentOS as a firewall, but you might
consider a distro that is more focused as a plop'n drop
"security applicance" distro:

T100P HDLC configuration
All,
I am trying to configure hdlc support on T100P Digium card - everything
seems ok... but it just does not work at all.
I was able to compile all drivers, the light on the card becomes green
when I plug T1 link.... but I even can't ping default router IP... there
is no data coming back to me, so I am confused completely now.
Also I tried both protocols - raw hdlc and cisco hdlc. The

Traffic shaping for IAX and SIP calls through Asterisk?
Hi,
Is it possible to put some kind of bridge which will do traffic
shaping/prioritising between
my 6 external IP addresses and my PPPoA modem interface?
My other option is to put some kind of device at the edge of all my
networks to shape the
traffic in/out. I'd rather do it in one box if possible?
thanks

HTB MPU
Hi.
I wrote in a reply to a mail on here recently that you can''t set mpu
(minimum packet unit) on HTB as you can on CBQ.
I''ve just noticed that there is a patch on devik''s site which does mpu
and overhead.
http://luxik.cdi.cz/~devik/qos/htb/
For dsl users mpu is, for practical purposes going to be 106 - overhead
is still variable though, depending on packet size.

ATM [Cell Tax]
I have read the thread at
http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/2006q1/018287.html
and still don''t know how to fix this problem. It appears alot of work
has gone into it but the HOWTO is so out of date it doesn''t even begin
to addresses this method.
So here are my questions
1. what is the current state of these patches? are they in a specific
version? do i have to patch myself?

Latest techniques for multiple PPP load-balancing
Hey,
I''ve been scouring the web these past few days trying to find a suitable
technique to load balance my network. Unfortunately I think my setup is
very uncommon, so I''m looking to you guys to see if you can help.
I currently have 2 ADSL modems, provided by the same ISP and terminating
on the same gateway (I think having the same gateway is what is causing
the problems, since

RE: HOW TO COMBINE 2 DSL LINES IN THE SAME COMPUTER
J,
What i meant is...like in Linux you make use of the two external
connections and collate them as mentioned in the document. Can you try
keeping the Linux box in front of the two windowze boxen and collate the
two LAN connections coming from them as mentioned in the HOWTO???.

How to make a network interface come up automatically on link up?
I have a recently installed Mellanox VPI interface in my server. This is
an InfiniBand interface, which, through the use of adapters, can also do
10GbE over fiber. I have one of the adapter's two ports configured for
10GbE in this way, with a point to point link to a Mac workstation with
a Myricom 10GbE card.
I've configured this interface on the Linux box (eth2) using

ADSL routers with integrated SIP QoS for other devices
Greetings list,
Thanks to all who replied to my thread a few days ago "SIP devices with packet loss tolerance". One of the suggestions that came out of that thread was to replace routers at users' premises with ones that support QoS.
I've used m0n0wall's QoS in the past with reasonable success, but it's quite a bulky and complex setup for deploying to remote sites which

Theory test

Considering the festive season is upon us, thanks to everyone
contributing to the list and helping all the readers with your great
input! I don''t want to mention names, I''ll most certainly leave
someone out.
With this mail I''d like to test some theory on bandwidth management,

Slashdot on WRT54G
Did anyone see the article?
It''s the first time I really noticed that these little Linksys routers
are such a fully fledged linux machine with a decent processor and a
replacable firmware. I am now itching to get one to replace the
multipurpose firewall desktop machine.
Has anyone experimented with the current state of the firmware and how
advanced you can get with tc rules? For

RedHat kickstart with PXELINUX
We are attempting to setup an automated system to build some Linux
systems. We have utilised the PXELINUX bootloader after encountering
the PXE 512Kb limit with bootp.
We now have another issue which you may have already run into. In the
DHCP configuration we specify pxelinux.0 as the bootfile, this works
reasonable well, we call the Redhat vmlinuz and initrd.img files

Our users are experiencing some unacceptable delay when trying to have a

Buffer in IceCast
Hi Maarten,
Yes, I'm behind ADSL with PPPoE but I don't think it is related with my
case. When my client disconnects from IceCast server for 15-20 seconds, my
active downloads are not interrupted. It currently effects only the route
to my IceCast server, other routes looks uneffected. I'm pinging IceCast
server continuously and checking trace route periodically. It is comething
like:
