Date length in english plugin/built in?
Is there a plugin or built in function for converting a date interval into the English equivalent? For example, "So and so posted this 45 minutes ago". -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Outputting date as "1 day ago" or "53 minutes ago"
When printing out the results of my "updated_at" field, I''d like to be able to print it as "Updated 5 days ago" instead of "Updated on 7/14/06." I''ve seen many blogs do this, is there an easy way to do it through rails / ruby? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

[AWDwR] Confused about has_one and has_many
Heya everyone! I am quite new to Rails and I am reading AWDwR. I am at Task E "Check Out!". I understand it quite well, but I have a problem with the last playground exercise: Add a Table which contains the payment types. All goes well, but I am not sure whether I should use has_many or has_one(as in the Playground wiki at http://wiki.pragprog.com/cgi-bin/wiki.cgi/PT-E-3). I use the

Chronic parsing date range in console but not in application in rails 3
Hey all, Chronic will parse a date range in console: Chronic.parse(1/1/2011 - 1/1/2012, :guess => false) => 2012-01-01 12:00:00 -0500..2012-01-01 12:00:01 -0500 However, when I use logger to check if it''s parsing in application, it is not: logger.info "The value of history date is #{history_date}" => The value of history date is 1/1/2011 - 1/1/2012

date helper bug?
I''ve found an issue when trying to use the time_ago_in_words and distance_of_time_in_words from action view''s date_helper.rb Using SQL Server, I have a datetime column that gets returned as: "2007/02/21 09:54:00". When I pass this to time_ago_in_words (which just passes on to distance_of_time_in_words) it miscalculates the difference as "9 hours" (...um yeah,

Version naming to use in a RoR proyect
Hi everyone, I would need to know if RoR follow any policy for version naming; I mean, something like linux´s kernel does or similar. For instance, kernel uses numbers separated in groups by dots (i.e. pre 2.6 - AA.BB.CC). These groups mean differents fixtures, bugs fixed... I will start a big proyect from scratch with rails and I want to choose now a standart to use and avoid future problems

when retreiving a date from a DATETIME field in a database, is there a way to set the date to the value of the DB in the view? It seems to always default to the current date... if I have a field called birthdate in the users table and i do @user = User.find(@params[:id]) in my view i have a <%= date_select ''birthdate'',''user'' %> but dont know how to

Cannot send_file then delete it
My application accepts a form to create multiple large(100''s of MB) temporary files and then zip''s them up to send off to a user. I have the files constructed, and the zipping working. The problem is that if I use send_file to send the zip off to the user, I cannot delete the file afterwards as it seems send_file forks off another process and deletes the file before the

formatted date down-counter - help!

is_active?
Hey all, i''m rather new to rails and was curious if ActiveRecord implemented anything like is_active where the delete functions would just mark records as inactive, vs deleting rows. (similar to created_at, etc). I need a history of transactions, and this is how I would code in other languages. Any advice? Is there are smarter way to implement this? Thanks in advance! -- Posted via

Chronic parse problem?
Hi all, Using the Chronic.parse method, I see some weird behavior. Perhaps someone can set me straight or confirm that it is indeed weird. Note that the date changes to one day earlier in the last example below. Since the date and time are uniquely specified using the hh:mm:ss notation -- though in the future -- I would expect the same result as when I specify the time as in

Using a helper within another helper?
I am trying to push some view logic into a helper. The thought is that this is a step towards having the business logic in the helper rather than the view. However, I''m essentially wrapping the checks around an eventual call to date_select(). The problem I''m having is that the application complains that it doesn''t know about date_select(). I''m sure (or

Re: time_ago_in_words is off by a day
Look at your 1.day.from_now and see if it''s like this: Sun, 12 Oct 2008 02:45:42 UTC +00:00 If you also have the "UTC +00:00", it means that you timezone is the GMT (and I think that it isn''t your real timezone). For example, my timezone is 3 hours after the GMT, so the right timezone would be something like this: Sat Oct 11 23:48:41 -0300 2008 At your

Proxying Apache to Mongrel, not sure if Apache is serving up static files
Let''s try this one... I have Apache 2.0.55 set up and also have Mongrel set up. I have Radiant set up running under Mongrel, and have Apache proxying to the Mongrel instance. That all seems to be working fine. I thought I''d modify the settings a bit to let Apache serve up the static files - images, stylesheets, etc. I have it set up, and am not getting any errors. However.
