rsync "hang"
Hello rsync list,
I am running a Solaris 8 system and have rsync 1.6.2 protocal 14 installed.
We have updated (wed 17-dec) to the latest Solaris 8 recommended patch set.
When performing an rsync of two local UFS partitions rsync "hung", never
completed, didn't exit. What I forced an exit via kill signal core dumped.

[PATCH] BUG on error handlings in Ext3 under I/O failure condition
Hello.
I found bugs on error handlings in the functions arround the ext3 file
system, which cause inadequate completions of synchronous write I/O operations
when disk I/O failures occur. Both 2.4 and 2.6 have this problem.
I carried out following experiment:
1. Mount a ext3 file system on a SCSI disk with ordered mode.
2. Open a file on the file system with O_SYNC|O_RDWR|O_TRUNC|O_CREAT

[Bridge] recent 2.6 kernels hang on bridge shutdown
With recent 2.6 kernels, the command
brctl delbr br0
hangs during shutdown, and the kernel prints this message again and again:
unregister_netdevice: waiting for br0 to become free. Usage count = 1
I was able to reproduce this problem with several kernels between
(and including) 2.6.9-rc1 and 2.6.11-rc2-bk9.
I haven't tried later versions than 2.6.11-rc2-bk9 yet.
2.6.8.1-bk2 still works

Plotmath on Fedora 31 broken with with pango >= 1.44 - workarounds?
Hi
Thanks for your input on this I?aki and Nicolas.
I am starting testing an R fix for this problem today.
As suggested, the plan is to allow the R user to specify a font family
other than "symbol" for plotmath output (or, more generally, in R
parlance, for 'font=5' or 'fontface=5') on a Cairo-based graphics device.

Broken filters?
Hi!
By iptables I set marking (-j MARK) just before -j IMQ.
There are only three marks. Exectly all of them are ditected to 1:20
Why I see 3 pkts in default 1:30?
How explain it?

PS fonts are dead mid-term everywhere, and already forbidden in new

Plotmath on Fedora 31 broken with with pango >= 1.44 - workarounds?
I do my devel/patch work on Mac so I can take a shot at testing your branch
in the next couple days.

Plotmath on Fedora 31 broken with with pango >= 1.44 - workarounds?
Paul et al,
I will try to do this tonight or tomorrow, though it will not be built with
th system tools because I have yet to get that tto work locally (spent a
good chunk of this morning trying).
I will send a separate messaage regarding those difficulties as well so
that we can at least confirm that they are due to a malconfiguration on my
part.
Best,

Understanding linear contrasts in Anova using R
#I am trying to understand how R fits models for contrasts in a
#simple one-way anova. This is an example, I am not stupid enough to want
#to simultaneously apply all of these contrasts to real data. With a few
#exceptions, the tests that I would compute by hand (or by other software)
#will give the same t or F statistics. It is the contrast estimates that
R produces

Plotmath on Fedora 31 broken with with pango >= 1.44 - workarounds?
Hi
The R branch ...
https://svn.r-project.org/R/branches/R-symfam/
... is now set up so that it works "out of the box" on Fedora by setting
the default to be 'symbolfamily=cairoSymbolFont(family, usePUA=FALSE)'
when grSoftVersion()["pango"] is greater than "1.44".
This means that on Fedora 31 (at least on the Docker container I am
testing on)

[PATCH] promised MMX patches rc1
Hello,
Here is my first speedup patch. Like 10-11%. No IDCT yet.
Please feel free to comment my code or even better think about
improvements. :) I belive my routines are not so bad, maybe
one day they will be even more faster.
What needs to be optimized is the loop filter fuction. I have
no ideas now how to do it. It does not leave much space for parallel
stuff, copying memory from lot of

Proposal for replacing asm code with intrinsics
Hi,
I'm new to Theora and would like to propose several performance optimization using advanced instructions in x86 CPUs (SSE2-SSE4.2).
There are several source files in \x86 and \x86_vc which developed using inline assembler. However this cause several maintenance problems:
1) Need to sync gcc & msvc versions
2) Only 32bit environment is supported
3) No support for newer than MMX

I was actually able to reproduce this on a relatively fresh install of
18.04 (a virtualbox). Paul, did you run apt update && apt upgrade before
trying to reproduce?
