Hi Paul, I tried downgrading to R 3.4.4 and I still see the problem. I also have a conda environment that doesn't exhibit the problem so it's something environmental. Any tips for possible solutions/troubleshooting would be appreciated! I was actually able to reproduce this on a relatively fresh install of 18.04 (a virtualbox). Paul, did you run apt update && apt upgrade before trying to reproduce?
