Problems setting up nested qdisc, feedback to LARTC HOWTO
Hi all,
based on the information in the "Linux Advanced Routing & Traffic
Control HOWTO", I was trying to set up traffic shaping on my firewall.
While I found the HOWTO very useful, in the process I ran into some
problems that I did not forsee: According to the HOWTO it seems that
it should have worked, even after spending some time going through the
sections looking for answers,

[OT] Shaping and squid question
List
Out of interest, I use transparent squid proxies for caching websites,
and I shape the clients that browse the net, this all works perfectly
so no questions in this regard...
CLIENT <--- eth0 ----> SQUID <----- ppp0 -----> NET
What I just realised was that all egress traffic on eth0 gets shaped,
squid gets data from ppp0 and hence is not shaped. Does this mean that

Well I got mine from

but I didn''t even know about those 2.6 ones... I''m using the latest

Theory test
Guys
Considering the festive season is upon us, thanks to everyone
contributing to the list and helping all the readers with your great
input! I don''t want to mention names, I''ll most certainly leave
someone out.
With this mail I''d like to test some theory on bandwidth management,
with my own successes and failures during the past year.

wrr question
Guys
All the recent discussions recently, and the knowledge of a 2.6 port,
of WRR has made me very keen on trying it. I had a look at the docs
and examples know but my mind is not in a very receptive state.
Take this simple example.
Incoming internet connection of 1mbps. Shared between up to 25 users
simultaneously.
I know that WRR can fairly distribute the traffic amongst the

How can i send the same traffic to 2 different interface
Hi! I am making some tests here, and i wanna miror all the
traffic going to a ip from one interface to another ip.
example:
all packets going to 64.223.167.100 should be transmitted by
ppp0 to internet and by eth2 to the adress 192.168.1.100.
Someone know how can i do it using iptables or ip route/ip
rule?
Tks in advance!

wrr vs. htb
Guys
I''m looking for some advice on the following situation:
We''re serving a residential complex with internet, the network has
grown and with it has the problems, below is a descriptive layout of
our current setup:
Connection: ADSL
Down/Up speed: 512kbps/256kbps (1024kbps/256kbps in the near future)
2.0GHz Celeron D with 512MB RAM
Current users: 140

Spill over
List
I need some help, advice or just a starting point on the following
situation:
Link A - 64kbps leased line
Link B - 512kbps ADSL line
Is it possible to have Link A saturated constantly and have the excess
traffic "spill over" onto Link B? I know it''s possible to have packets sent
down links in a round-robin fashion and I''ve read in the howto on load

Shaping of pppoe clients
Guys
After reading through the archives I found some insightful ways to be
able to shape traffic to pppoe clients from the server. I have two
questions on the topic of setting up a pppoe server however...
1. The clients will all be connected to each other using a normal
ethernet network, the segments connected with managed switches. The
capacity is roughly 500 nodes. Will these pppoe sessions

Memory consumption
Hope everyone had a festive easter weekend!
Is it possible to monitor how much memory iptables or kernel consumes
while processing packets as they go through the firewall? The same
question goes for having a large number of routes in the routing table
(>700).
A few reasons for asking, but the two major ones are from the
following situations:
1. We provide 420 flats in a complex with

netfilter and lartc members
I just thought it''s time I contribute. I created this little script to
help me while setting up iptables rules for firewalling, shaping or
both. I hope this helps someone.
Called tableview.sh, inspired by Table Mountain, Cape Town, ZA :)

wanted A tool to measure bandwidth....
Hello Everybody,
I have configured a Linux box that does traffic shaping. Its working wonderfully fine, just as expected...Now i want to measure the bandwidth consumed by each of my hosts....But I dont want SNMP to run on all the hosts[as required by MRTG]
I used iptraf on my linux box, but it only measures the bandwidth on interface basis only....
I tried installing traffic-vis, its not working

load sharing
Hi,
I am taking my machine loaded with Mandrake 10.0 and Suse 9.1 to my
friend''s place. She has 2 different ISP providing pppoe connections
in her office. She has allowed me try load balancing on my machine on
Sunday. I just wanted to know does lartc stand good with pppoe? I
have heard conflicting opinions on the same. I do not want to patch
my kernel at all for it. Is it possible

Strategy for about 200 part-time users
I''ve been lurking for a while, trying to figure out this traffic
control stuff. We have 3 ADSL modems upstream, with 2, 2, and 1
megabit total bandwidth, 1/4 of it up, 3/4 down.
We also have about 200 workstations downstream, connected through
wifi. We are presently using tc to create about 200 buckets with HTB
and SFQ. It seems like this is too many buckets, since usually only

Hi,
I''m subscribed to this mailing list for a long time. During that time, I
enjoyed reading all posts and try to understand them :)
LARTC started as a something I could use to impress my boss. After a while it

EventMachine website down?
Hi all
Is the EventMachine website (www.rubyeventmachine.com) down? I can''t access
it from South Africa, and have tried using tor as well with no luck.
I''m kinda new to EventMachine, so I first have a lot of examples to work
through and reading to do before I start pestering the mailing list with
questions.
Thanks to everyone who partook in creating the library, so far

Slashdot on WRT54G
Did anyone see the article?
It''s the first time I really noticed that these little Linksys routers
are such a fully fledged linux machine with a decent processor and a
replacable firmware. I am now itching to get one to replace the
multipurpose firewall desktop machine.
Has anyone experimented with the current state of the firmware and how
advanced you can get with tc rules? For

Modems: Cable or DSL digital blunders that lartc may help with.
I have a Cable ''modem'' that has a problem that many of these devices is
bound to have. I was wondering what other lartc user thought about this
and if DSL has simular problems.
Cable, being Asymetrical, is able to upload at a given rate and hopefully
has a buffer, in the modem, of some kind. When I nc(netcat) to a UDP
echo, or discard, server I get about 10Mbps out on my

Question about htb class
Hi everyone.
I''m new to this list and I have some questions
regarding HTB class.
I was trying to see how tc sets the parameters for
HTB, but really couldnt understand them.
So, I thought that I might ask the wizards.
It''s mainly from the source code.
1. What is the cell_log ?
(its everywhere in the code)
2. Why does htb calculate its burst(buffer) with
tc_xmit_time() ? Is
