Selective Masquerading
HI guys: I have a DSL @ 1mb, and another one @ 256kbps I''ve been reading countless hours regarding the split access / load balancing issue, but for some strange reason, things don''t work the way they should. Sometimes the split access works, other times a DSL begins an ARP flood pointing all the ARP replies to the other DSL, and sometimes they just wont work at all. While

What happened to the lartc mailing list?
I see it is posting to the archive website but not emailing them out. Is anyone else getting emails or is it just me? Thanks - Greg Scott _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl http://mailman.ds9a.nl/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/lartc

do I need to iptables mark in this scenario?
Hello, really new to advanced linux routing, but I have managed to setup something that sort of works for my needs. I have a linux box with this configuration: Internet - eth0 - eth1 - many users I''m using a NAT to allow my users Internet access. On some users, I wish to shape their download speeds as to not overload our outside connection. Here is what I do to shape them at 64k

Fix list so it adds Reply-To: header
Could whomever is in charge of the lartc mailing list please change it to add the header: Reply-To: lartc@mailman.ds9a.nl Every other list I''m on is setup so that by default replies will go to the list. When replying to lartc emails I notice myself and others constantly forgetting this list does not behave like the rest, and that we have to either do a reply-to-all, or manually enter in

NAT/MASQ with multiple external static IPs
Hello everyone, really not sure if this is a LARTC question or not, but I have several hundred users all MASQ''d behind a single static IP. Users are reporting that certain websites are blacklisting that single static external IP for various reasons. What I would like to do is use several external IP''s and have a MASQ''d user getting a random one each time. Here is

Viruses bouncing around on this list
I''m sure many are aware of this already but I thought I would insinuate myself for a moment here. Our mail servers have blocked two posts to this list today, due to them containing inappropriate file attachments - one with an .SCR file, and one with a .PIF file. Yeah, my servers blocked them, no harm done. But I doubt everyone subscribing to this list is running a setup that blocks

IMQ stability
Hi, I''ve never actually even tried to use the IMQ device before, but I''ve watched the emails go back and forth on various problems associated with it, and what looks like some general instability. How stable is it really ? Is it suitable for full-time use on a large number of routers ? Has anyone used it on ipsec0 + eth0 devices for shaping ? and lastly, any difference

RE: small kernel distro recommendations for QoS box
Why not try something like Pebble linux from http://www.nycwireless.net/pebble It is a stripped down Debian install that is aimed at running a wireless hotspot but it is just Debian and you can install whatever you want. It fits on a 64MB flash card but if you install almost anything you will want a 128MB one. It does come with iptables and iproute2 tools as I recall. Patrick

Are tcng changes permanent? How to reset them?
I''m running a Redhat 9.0 bridge and got tcng kind of working before discovering a nice example in the LARTC HOWTO (http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.cookbook.fullnat.intro.html). How do I clear out the settings made by the tcc-generated sh script? TIA -Ron

ceil, cburst, prio not working?
Hi, I''ve been using htb fine to separate outgoing SMTP traffic from HTTP traffic so sending big emails doesn''t affect browsing. As long as ceil == burst and the sum of all rates don''t exceed the root class'' rate all is fine but when I incorporate ceil I would expect (from lartc howto) that when other classes are idle the remaining bandwith would be assigned

Viral activitiy coming from an IP in your network.
Hi, my name is Grant Taylor. I am a subscriber to the LARTC mail list lartc@mailman.ds9a.nl. The LARTC mail lists has been plagued with viral email coming from changing IPs in your one of your subnets. Based on the fact that the WhoIs information below says that the subnet in question is a dial up pool this would explain the changing IPs. In less than 6 days the list has received 14 viral

list archive anomaly
At the list archive page (http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/) there is an amazing message from the future: the year 2032 (q1). Not that I know anything about mailman, but someone might want to "maintain" that. -- ****************************************************************** Glen W. PPPoE w/ "static" /29 ip range, how is it done?
Hello everyone, I hope this is on-topic for the list... I''m familiar with NAT, but I can''t see how to route a fully routed LAN. My new ISP has given me a /29 (I understand this to be 6 addresses + network address + broadcast address) which I would like to use, as multiple PCs here want to use p2p and games at the same time, and reconfiguring the port forwarding all the time
