Administrative users on domain
Back in January we upgraded/moved our domain from an old install of samba and openldap to a newer version (samba 3.5.10 and openldap 2.4.23) while also moving our domain to a new name. On the old domain, which was setup before I got here, our IT section was in an ldap group that allowed us to join PC's to the domain and when the prompt came up in windows to install software we could log in as

Samba4 & Delegation
Hello,
Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but since I am
running a Samba4 DC I thought I'd start here.
I have create a separate OU to manage Groups and Users for Applications:
1) ou=myappX,ou=app,dc=mydomain,dc=home
All Users (and other groups, e.g. Domain Users) are obviously found in :
2) cn=users,dc=mydomain,dc=home
So I created a service

Can't join machine without full access
Sernet samba 4.2.2 in ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, a fresh migration from samba 3
(I'm still in the testing phase).
I'm experimenting with task delegation.
Using the ADUC wizard, I select the "Join machine to domain" task to add
to my userid (I also tried a group I'm a member of with the same
result), at the domain level (rough translation, this is on a localized
windows 7).

Question re kerberos . . .
I've used the Samba AD DC HOWTO
<https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO> to install Samba 4
as an Active Directory/Domain Controller.
I've successfully configured the domain/realm and DNS (as far as I can
tell) and worked my way through Testing Your Samba Domain Controller

Authenticating other services against AD - PAM and Postgres - dedicated user
Hi!
I've got a samba4 pdc, fileserver and whatnot running now for a few months,
a number of users logs in there daily, everyone seems quite happy about it
going.
I've migrated my environment from samba3 NTdomain, where I had LDAP backend
for users and I used that to authenticate other services against it: like
pam on other servers and postgres DBs. I have succesully managed to do this

file share necessary?
On
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO#Setup_a_basic_File_Share
the instructions says
For the server to be useful you, will need to update it to have at
least one share
What do you need a file share for the server to be useful? Isn't a
domain controller 'useful' to authenticate machines and users even if it
doesn't have a file share? I would have thought

Windows XP cannot join Samba 4AD but win 7 can.
Hello everybody,
I've got some troubles making Win XP join may samba4 AD, and, well, i'm
kind of stuck !
I use the binary distribution of Samba 4 for Ubuntu Trusty Server
(4.1.6), with bind9 DLZ as a DNS backend.
Everything works fine with Win7 workstations, but I get a message
"Internal Error" on Win XP workstation during the domain join.
The machine account is created on

Hai,
?
i was reading:
?
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO#Testing_DNS?
which stats :
Don't use BIND9_FLATFILE! It's not documented and supported!?
?
This is wrong imo.?
?
bind9_flatefile works fine, it just does not support multi master dns, and bind9_DLZ does.
so you must setup a master/slave setup for bind9 with flatfile
?

Eliminating Samba4 (as a name)
Now that Samba 4.0 has been released - a very proud moment for the whole
Samba Team - I want to emphasise something that most of the team has
been trying to do over the past few months, but that we haven't really
announced:
That is, gong forward, we are generally avoiding using the term Samba4
(and Samba3 for that matter).
The reason is that while these terms were useful for a time before

Samba4 AD DC Implementation Report - YAY! And Thanks for the tools!
Following the instructions here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
In that page there is a link to using Bind as your DNS server, which links
to: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/DNS_Backend_BIND
On that page, it instructs you to populate the DNS server with the command:

Samba 4.1.6 and 4.1.7 Kerberos problem on Debian Linux
I am trying to setup an AD using a Linux server to get away from Windows Server 2008. So far I have tried the setup on both a Debian 7.4 64 bit machine, and a Raspberry Pi (Debian variant). I've tried both Samba stable versions 4.1.6 and 4.1.7, and they both give me the same results.
I followed the instructions to install the Samba 4 AD setup at

Hello!
This is my first Samba experience. Pre-condition:

Both Linux and Windows are fresh systems, no antivirus on Windows, no
firewall on Linux.
AD was provisioned by https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO

DHCP & Dynamic DNS
I have followed the Wiki here http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
On setting up Samba $ as a DC in it's own real. So far so good and all looks to be working well.
What this document seems to be missing is a "how to" on DHCP dynamically updating Samba 4's
Integrated DNS server (which is the one I am using).
Does anyone know of a how to on this?
