Shaping per IP in PPPoE
hi all.
i am currently now serving PPPoE in my area.
i had a script generated from tcng that worked perfectly before i
started serving PPPoE.
the issue is not in the script it self BUT in that "tc" code is not
shaping on the ethernet anymore BUT INSTEAD
on the pppX devices. I tested it and talking jargon, what should i do?
The issue is that for each PPPoE login, PPPoE-server

ppp interfaces for both loc and net
Hi,
I''m in a process of setting up a firewall system, which is going to be
also an ipsec/l2tp and pptp vpn server for some mobile clients.
The problem is, that the system has two ISPs a cable one (no problems
here) and a DSL provider. Because of the DSL provider the system is going
to have one pppN interface for DSL (net zone) and many pppX interfaces for
l2tp/pptp (loc zone)

Routing multiple conntections to the same ISP
Hi,
I have established two connections to the same ISP. After that ip route list
showed this:

195.14.247.94 dev ppp1 proto kernel scope link src 81.173.237.84
192.168.0.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.1
default via 195.14.247.94 dev ppp0
I want 192.168.0.2 to connect to the internet by ppp1 and all

Multiple Uplinks with the same gateway ip?!
Hi folks,
i spent my whole day trying to set up my linux router using load
balancing with multiple uplinks. I mainly focused on the nano howto, but
somewhere I have a big mistake within my head.
Basically the load-balancing is working, but not on a per-connection
basis - just on a per packet basis. Practically this is not usable of
course <g>
But as far as I understood it should work..

relation b/w uplink and downlink rate control
Hello all,
I have browsed archives and real all available HOWTOs, but I still have a few doubts.
My set up is a router, as below.
LAN(100MB)-------------(eth1)Linux-Router(eth0)---------------WAN(2MB/512)
My aim is to cotrol both uplink and downlink bandwidth.
For uplink control, I will use HTB on WAN interface. For downlink, I plan to attach HTB on LAN interface(both egress/outgoing). No

Wondershaper 1.1a bandwidth speed test gives me uplink speed instead of downlink
I have been testing wondershaper 1.1a with htb.
DOWNLINK=2304
UPLINK=1024
DEV=wlan0
No other changes have been made, except to comment out the 2 lines to
allow the script to run.
When I do a speed test from sites like www.toast.net/performance, I only
get speeds equal to my UPLINK speed. I expected a speed closer to the
DOWNLINK. Am I missing something here?
TIA,

pppoe gateway under linux
Hello to everyone,
Can someone help me with hints on how to configure a pppoe gateway on
a linux box with 200+ clients behind it ?
I''ve read that user-space daemons give A LOT of CPU overhead.
I''m opened to ANY solution !

multiple pppoe connections
My Internet gateway is using ADSL PPPoE connection with dynamic public
IP assigned by ISP. My Internet gateway is Redhat AS3 U2, shorewall
2.0.9
As my ISP provided 4 simultaneous pppoe dailup connection for the same
physical adsl line. My linux server can be configured for multiple
pppoe connection i.e. ppp0, ppp1, ppp2, ppp3
Is it possible of shorewall to assigned say

Need basic PPPoE startup help
I need basic PPPoE startup help.
adsl-start DID bring up my PPPoE link (ppp0) to my ISP over eth0 via the
DSL modem/bridge. My IPv4 CIDR block is routing and Shorewall is doing
the firewalling.
But shorewall has to be started after ppp0 is up and working. For now
this means running shorewall restart (or start?). Shorewall 4.2 will
have a way to restart shorewall without recompiling, I

That could have gone smoother. I had many problems with the NFS install on
my firewall then once I got the server back up, mail delivery was broken :-

I still haven''t gotten ulogd to run under RH9.0 but everything else seems
to be working ok...

Conceptual question ;-)
ehlo list,
I''m willing to shape ppp users e.g. each pppX interface to get XXX kbits
I classify traffic going to ppp+ interfaces like this:
iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -o ppp+ -j CLASSIFY --set-class 0002:0020
then i have a file which is executed when a ppp inteface is up and first
argument parsed to that file ($1) is the ppp number (e.g. 35 for ppp35).
it generally looks like

Multiple uplink problems
I''ve installed Shorewall 3.0.5 on a Debian Sarge box, and I''m
attempting to route internet traffic through a couple of ISPs, and I''ve
come up against some problems.
The first is that one of my links is a pppoe connection to a wireless
modem, and I can''t configure it to have a static IP address...
therefore I can''t see how I can set up the two

I dont want to shape a host
Hello all,
I am still reading about my QoS rules and I need that one of my
servers (that is into my LAN but has an routing ip address) did not get
into the qos rules I have. So I want that all traffic coming or going to
that specifc host did not get shapped by any traffic control and do not
get even into a QoS class. How can I do this?

Two ADSL lines with PPPoE in one server.
Hello,
My system is:
Server with Slackware 8.1 LINUX, ADSL Internet with PPPoE connection,
and I masquerade my LAN. I use "Roaring Penguin" PPPoE client for my
ADSL connection.
I would like to connect another ADSL line (also PPPoE) to my server
and have two lines, because I want to make "Simple source policy
routing", as described in LARTC HOWTO.
How should I set up my

Dealing with interfaces going down
Some of Shorewall''s features manipulate routing tables.
Linux removes routes involving interfaces that disappear (namely pppX).
When these interfaces are restore the routing tables are not restored.
Just wondering how people are dealing with this situation.

exact rate
Hello
I am using htb (krenel 2.6.14.3 + esfq patch from fatooh.org) to limit the
bandwidth. But I want the absolute maximum rate to be for example 5Mbit
and not to exceed it.
here is the script:
$tc qdisc add dev ${NETIF} root handle 1 htb r2q 4
$tc class add dev ${NETIF} parent 1: classid 1:21 htb rate 5Mbit ceil 5Mbit
$tc class add dev ${NETIF} parent 1:21 classid 1:101 htb rate 2Mbit ceil

How to bond pppoe links
I have three ADSL lines that I''d like to use as one big pipe to the
internet. The ADSL service works by establishing a pppoe connection (the
ADSL "modem" is a bridge), and each pppoe interface gets its own IP
address.
This means I''d have to have 4 ethernet interfaces (3 for each
of the ADSL modems and 1 for the LAN) in my gateway. I''d setup the
gateway to NAT

Hi
I want to block the IP traffic between any 2 hosts on a switched ethernet
LAN. Will setting all the possible IP addresses on a linux machine in the
LAN do the trick or there is another easier solution?

Classful Queuing
OK, I''m stumped. I''ve read through most of the LARTC HOWTO and have yet
to find a basis for what I need to accomplish.
I have a Linux box that controls access to and from the Internet at my
workplace. We have a number of remote employees that connect via PPTP
and IPSEC to the office''s internal network. Some of these remote
employees are currently using SIP phones.
