iptables CLASSIFY vs fwmark?
Could someone comment on the benefits of using CLASSIFY vs fwmark (or vice versa) in iptables? I''m getting ready to implement some basic tc for VoIP and most of the examples seem to use the (older?) fwmark syntax. Should I convert these to CLASSIFY? Can the two syntaxes be mixed? Also with U32? TIA, Edwin -- <=+=+=+==+=+=+==+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=> Edwin Whitelaw, P.E. New River

TC on multiple nics
Happy New Year. Finally got my fw and tc rules down pat for the bridge, now interested in introducing a third nic to have nat on the box as well. Does anyone have a idea of a good place to start reading up on the subject, mainly interested in how to setup the flow direction to start with as to get a overall understanding of the flow, found that help best. HTB qdisc within HTB root qdisc
Hello... Im trying to setup HTB to allow me to shape traffic from two upstreams that meets on single lan0 interface. I prefer to use HTB qdisc within HTB root qdisc for cleaner rules design. Seems that it doesnt work at all. tc -s class show doesnt show any traffic on other classes attached to HTB qdisc. Linux 2.6.20.7 iproute-2.6.20-070313 Weird thing is that tc -s class show that 1: and 2:

HTB rates aren''t enforced correctly
Hi! I recently changed my qdisc from CBQ and PRIO to only HTB, and I can''t really seem to get the rates to work as I want them to. I have eight classes, which I set up as follows: tc qdisc add dev eth1 root handle 1: htb default 122 tc class add dev eth1 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 1000kbit ceil 1000kbit cburst 1500 burst 50kb tc class add dev eth1 parent 1:1 classid 1:11 htb prio 0

tc filter + bridging + htb -- works only if ip_forward = 0
I thought that the below email would be of interest to LARTC readers. I wasted quite a bit of time tracking down this "feature" (bug?). Any comments that shed light on this would be appreciated. In short, "tc filter" + htb + bridging works only with ip_forward off. Andrew Athan ----------------------------------------------------------------------- All: It seems that

classid, prio and position
Having a problem with classid and prio and position. Wondering if someone could help? Below I have pasted a part of my current rules, now it consists of one chain and two pipes. If they both use 60Kbit which one would get priority? Would it be the one with the better prio or the one with the lower classid or would it be the one which is first on the list? /sbin/tc class add dev eth1 parent

HTB and prio
Hi, this is a followup to "Problem with HTB and ceil", the problem with the ceiling has been resolved, thanks to the memebers on this m/g. Now I have the problem that packets get into the correct classe with the correct marks but the prios are not respected. I have 4 different classes: 1. voip class / prio 0 / mark 100 / voip traffic 2. ACK class / prio 1 / mark 200 / ACK packets to
