Better tools for authoring the view
I''m hand editing my .css and .rhtml files using SciTE and hitting
refresh in my browser to see the results - its slow going.
What tools are people using to author their .css and .rhtml files?
Thanks,
Neville

Encrypted ASP.Net type viewstate
Does rails have any builtin functionality similar to that of ASP.Net''s
encryptable ViewState? For those that don''t know what the ASP.Net viewstate
is, it is essentially just a hidden form field with the name __VIEWSTATE,
that stores a series of encoded(or encrypted) key/value pairs as it''s value.
When the form is submitted the viewstate value is decoded/decrypted on the

sha1 or md5?
I''m building a site that requires user log-in and i have seen the Agile
book using sha1 for password hashing while R-Forum uses md5.
Is there any compelling argument to use one over the other?

Translation SIG
Hi,
we already had a little bit of that discussion a few weeks ago:
Is there anyone interested in a general translation/i18n/l10n
(internationalization, localization) SIG? I'd be more than happy to be
the "inner person from CentOS" within that SIG, but I'd be also more
than happy if someone else wants to drive that.
See <http://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup>.

Huge OO.org packages installed by default
I was just wondering if anyone here knows why the OO.org packages on
RHEL/Centos are so huge.
Eg. On Mandriva 2006:
40834529 OpenOffice.org
113064600 OpenOffice.org-libs
20124669 OpenOffice.org-help-en
19976941 OpenOffice.org-l10n-en
= ~185MB
On Centos 4:
683298379 openoffice.org-i18n
124072694 openoffice.org
111894560 openoffice.org-libs
= ~876MB!!
When I say 'installed by default' I

Wrong Content-type in RJS with Gettext
Hello,
I am developing an application using Rails and doing l10n with
ruby-gettext.
When I deploy the app on lighttpd, every rjs template is rendered with
Content-type: text/html; charset: UTF-8. I believe it comes from 85th
line of
rails.rb script in ruby-gettext lib. RJS templates are not executed in
this situation.
Hovewer, when I run the app with Webrick, rjs templates are rendered

L10N and i18n of R
Dear R-users of non-English speaking countires.
Maybe a good news for those who want to use R in their
local languages. Recently two Japanese, E. Nakama and
M. Okada, succeeded in "making R speak Japanese". At
present, R can handle Japanese (as well as other languages,
I guess) character strings if one use consoles which
can understand Japanese. Also P. Murrell kindly

About "/usr/sbin/zfs" and ksh93/libshell.so ...
Hi!

Is there any interest to turn the "zfs" utility (to clarify: This is
about a change in the "zfs" utility itself, not about any "language
bindings" etc.) from it''s (currently) "homegrown" command-line parsing
code over to ksh93/libshell.so (this has been proposed by Amersham/GE

Problem with libkexiv2 ?
Hi,
I'm currently installing a dozen CentOS 7 + KDE desktops in our local
school. I've already installed a minimal X11 + WindowMaker, and now I
want to install KDE on top of that, but the installation fails. There's
some broken dependency in the repos. I've narrowed the problem down to
the libkexiv2 package. Here's that I get.
# yum install libkexiv2

i18n friendly, plugable Rails Core
In my work with a simple localization plugin, i''m running into a lot of
places in the Rails core, where text and other localization specific
information is hardcoded.
I''ve included some examples in the bottom of this post.
It''s hard for an outsider to know, if the hardcoded values are a result
of inconsistency in code, or "by design". I hope that we can have
