Ruby presentation
Cheers,
I uploaded my Ruby presentation that I held in March for some colleagues to
my blog.
The presentation is an introduction and overview to Ruby in German. There is
also a small part about Ruby on Rails but the focus is on the features on
Ruby.
Maybe it''s of use for somebody.
You can find it here:

Drag''n''Drop out of overflow:auto containers
Cheers,
I have some elements inside a div with overflow:auto. When I trie to
drag them outside of the div, the div starts to scroll. Is there a way
to stop this behaviour for drag and drop?
I thought of maybe using callback to disable the overflow and restoring
it againg after the drop. Did someone implemented something like this?
Thanks,
Jonathan

Webistrano recipes association (was: [Capistrano] Webistrano 1.3 released)
I see at some point recipes were changed from project-associated to
stage-associated, is there some explanation or examples of that use-case?
Could I request we have both? In my current cap scripts, we don''t have any
stage-specific recipes, but maybe I''m just not understanding this
completely.

SPEEX on iPhone ?
hello,
i 've already used SPEEX in a protoype of voip application (on VC 6) and i
must says that it works well, the sound is good, and the object works well
with multi-instances.
But now i'm wondering if it's possible to port the SPEEX encoder (and
decoder process) on iPhone ? Does someone tried to do that ?
Do you think it is possible or completly over the capabilities of the ARM

IE5.5
Hey Rails, Prototype and Scriptaculous peoples.
I love all three frameworks, my only concern is Prototypes lack of
support in IE5.5
Is there really too much of the framework that IE5.5 can''t handle or
is simply a design decision not to support it?
I want to push web standards forward, but unfortunately there''s simply
stil too many IE5.5 users to ignore. The incorrect box model

OpenRico LiveGrid or similar
Hi
Has anyone used OpenRico''s "on-demand listbox" LiveGrid or something
similar in a Rails app already? How well does it behave?
I''m asking this because I need a scrollable list but the number of
records in the table could be well above 5000. In the past I''ve used
similar "on-demand fetchings" in desktop apps and it was a real
blessing (the

SPEEX on iPhone ?
Hello Ashhar,
thanks for your reply, but i'm a bit surprised.
1- Does it mean that it is possible to make a Real Time Encoding/Decoding
with SPEEX on iPhone ?
2- What parameters have been used (QUALITY, SAMPLING_RATE, BITRATE) ? and
what kind of CPU load do they measure for that ?
Thanks by advance,
Vincent

Trouble with Umlauts
I am developing an application in German. This means I have umlauts. When I
was using rails version 0.13.1 there seemed to be no further configuration
needed for umlauts to be shown correctly. Now I have upgraded to 0.14.2 and
the umlauts are being displayed at ''?''s. I changed the encoding of the page
and it is UTF-8. I have also tried the steps listed at

Browser/Feature Detection for Rails/AJAX apps

element.remove when element being dragged
Hi
I''ve a class which creates a lot of droppable icons (folders) and
another class that creates some draggable file icons.
When I drop one of the files in the folders I want to remove the file
icon from the screen. However, doing
Element.remove(droppedElement); results in a repeated js error "element
has no properties" in protoype line 1588. This continues to occur until

Hi - my first post here so first of all can I say how impressed I am
with this library
Now to my first question - I''m simply trying to make a div draggable,
here''s my test page:

what seems to be happening is that the first drag works fine, but on
subsequent drags the div''s initial coordinates

general genetic algorithm / simulated annealing framework
Hi,
we have some code that does variable selection with a genetic
algorithm or simulated annealing, using a linear regression routine or
neural network as the objective function. This code is a mixture of
fortran and C.
The code is more than 15 years old and I am planning to rework it.
Though a C rewrite would be good for efficiency, I would like to
protoype it quickly in R and see how it
