P4 dual core vs AMD64 dual core with HTB
Hi All,
Please for some advice.
I have Linux router that do traffic control with HTB , routing and traffic
counting.
currently machine is with P4 2.2GHZ 1GB RAM. I plan to migrate to dual core
CPU. I know well
P4 dual core but is it anybody has experience with AMD64 dual core / or
single core / for traffic control . I use Deban Linux for my router. Can I
expect problems with HTB and iproute 2

Ip traffic accounting and HTB
Hi, I''m using HTB for bandwidth control, but i''m still not sure how to
account the traffic. My config is the following: eth0 goes to internet and
eth1 to the clients(I''m shaping both ifaces). I want to log ip traffic
from and to the clients. Since htb shapes outgoing traffic I''m not sure
how to make the iptables script.
This is the script:

Traffic Accounting
Hello,
Is there an easy way, either by scripting or some software project or
something similar, to do automatic traffic accounting. I am looking to be
able to give each host on my LAN a specific quota of data transfer for a
given previous period of time, for example 1 GB in the previous 24 hours. If
they exceed that limit, I would like to be able to have the system
automatically rate limit

Re: RE: Control Traffic
Hi Andreas!
I mainly understand what you mean, I tried to fix something on the script, I don''t know if I did it well.
Can you take another look on it please and if is wrong to make the corrections directly on it so that I see where the mistake is...
With this script I want to make limits for IP class 85.120.48.0/25 for international traffic in 256 KBps classes and for metropolitan

Shaping the sum of in/out traffic (IMQ?)
Hello,
does anyone have a working solution for the shaping both incoming and
outgoing traffic in such way, that for a given class the sum of incoming
and outgoing traffic is specified?
My ISP does the same thing, it gives me just a line of a defined rate,
no matter the traffic direction (i.e. here is the line, the clock speed
is 1024kbps, do what you want).
I''m a litte bit familiar

Accounting using ip addresses and ulogd
Hi use traffic shaping on my local lan and it keeps all drops packets by
logging them to mysql via ulogd. Since there is windows and apple users on
the network I would like to have their "computer names" instead of ip
address to make for easy accounting. Does anyone know of a script or tool
to get the ip address of a drop packet and turn it into a computer name (via

Dynamic traffic shaping or ATM like classes
Is it possible to dynamically do bandwidh reservation?
That is, I want to limit the traffic to 50% for upload
and download, but if there aren''t onbound traffic, who
is doing a download will get 100% of bandwidh and if
there aren''t inbound traffic, who is doing a upload
will get 100%, but if there are both inbound and
outbount traffic, each one get limited to 50%.
I think this

Collect iproute2 traffic stat
Hello lartc-boys,
I planed to write script, which collects traffic statistics from ''tc
classes'' (different server services) and transform this by MRTG (or
other...) for web view... And logs, archived in txt files or in DB
(MySQL ? )
But i think, that someone made this job,.... May somebody share one''s
experience or finished scripts for examples ?
anyone any ideas ?

script to shape outbound passive/active ftp traffic
Hi,
I just wanted to share my script with the list. I have been trying to
shape outbound passive and active ftp traffic without affecting inbound
and lan transfers. I have tried to do this for a long time and it seems
that I have finally figured it out.
Feel free to comment on the below script if there is anything that can
be improved. It seems to work flawlessly so far.
#!/bin/bash

Problem with HTB and outgoing traffic
Hello,
I''m using a script with tc, to limit my outgoing traffic :
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 500kbit burst 6k
tc filter add dev eth0 parent 1: protocol ip prio 1 u32 match ip dst
172.28.54.9 flowid 1:1
I want to test bandwidth with iperf to see if limitation is correct.
Sometimes, I get correct measure for certain rates,

request for review of linux traffic control diagram
Hello LARTC readers,
I have completed a generic diagram of a linux traffic control scenario
with HTB. I believe that the diagram is substantially accurate, although
I''d like feedback from others.
I will (eventually) be annotating the diagram in a separate HTML page,
and would welcome any suggestions for annotations. Naturally, the
annotation will have to cover some of the key

How can I discern egress traffic than ingress traffic?
I have two interfaces, eth0 and eth1 but i can''t
discern the egress traffic than ingress traffic. I
need to apply htb qdisc in both directions, and I read
that I need the IMQ patch to do this, because in
ingress qdisc i can''t apply htb qdisc...but where is
the ingress qdisc? affect the traffic that goes from
eth0 to eth1 or is for the traffic that goes from eth1
to eth0?

Prioritizing interactive traffic does not work
Hello.
In short Linux Advanced Routing & Traffic Control HOWTO''s chapter
15.4. Prioritizing interactive traffic does not help me at all.
I have an asymmetric ADSL connection nominal 64Kbit in / 16Kbit out,
real (based on bulk transfers measures) 256Kbit/26Kbit. First thing I
would like to improve is to keep interactive (ssh) connection fast
even if uplink is full. The test I make

ANN: pyshaper - for easy traffic-shaping
Hi,
I''ve released an alpha of ''pyshaper'' - a python prog which simplifies
traffic-shaping.
Requires python2.2 or later, a 2.4 or later Linux kernel with QoS
options compiled in, the iproute2 suite and optionally GeoIP as well.
pyshaper periodically netstats the current TCP connections, matches them
against your rules, and dynamically calculates/generates/executes
