Setting up a GUI remote access
Currently I have VNC running on my Windows desktop with Samba
providing access to my Linux server. Since Linux is more
reliable than Windows, I would like to be able to access my Linux
(Centos 5.5) via my Windows notebook - hopefully via VNC or some
similar application and then access the Windows desktop (if it is
not locked up :-) ) with Samba.
What is the best VNC like application to

Remote Desktop Recommendations (2)
Folks
I'm looking for a way to access a GUI desktop on a Centos 7 server
from a Windows client. I have tried:
- X2go from EPEL (fails immediately, apparently they are working on a
solution, but...)
- Freenx (doesn't exist for EL7)
Both the above work fine with Centos 6.
I'm looking for a solution that works over the internet from
afar. My earlier posting failed to mention this.

VM Remote access options
Just to error test my own thinking here, there seems to be the following
options for remote graphical access to a running domian vm. Besides the
normal network service via a port and a raw console, the options are
straight X, VNC, and XN.
X - supports a single X window running on a local XServer, tied to a single
process on the remote system. No remote desktop
VNC - comes in two flavors of

KVM as a desktop
I am nearing the end of a project that moved our disparate services
and hosts onto kvm virtualized servers. What I am now contemplating
is setting up my desktop as a virtual host and using one of the guests
as my primary workstation.
However, I am not sure how this would work in practice. I am
accustomed to working with virtual instances via ssh (a terminal
window) and with my desktop system in

How to setup VNC for GDM access on 6.3
Hi all,

FreeNX authenticates but no desktop on centos 5 ??
Hi all,
I am new to CentOS and freeNX -- both look really awesome, a huge thanks to
all the people making them happen.
I am having a problem with freenx that appears to be specific to centos 5.
my client authenticates but then no desktop comes up. however, when I
connect to a similar machine running centos 4.4, I authenticate and the
gnome desktop just pops up sweet as can be. I also have a vnc

freenx
Hello,
I am having problems getting freenx running in CentOS 4.5 i386_64. I
know this is not a new problem, however, I havn't
found a solution in all the postings I found on the web.
I did exactly what is supposed to work and described in detail at
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/FreeNX
After doing that I can connect to the server with nxcleint without
problem but I get only a black

Paravirtualized Linux with graphics (X Window)?
Hi,
Anybody please tell me how to have a PV Linux with graphics?
I succesfully created some PV Linux with debootstrap and xen-tools.
But then all the images must be started with "xm create -c" command,
and everything then is console, with no X Window.
In short, I want to have PV Linux, but with X. How to do that?
Thanks,
H

Multiple FreeNX servers and SSH ports
Hi,
I've setup a small LAN of two desktops running CentOS 5 in a medical
office. Both are connected to the Internet via a small modem/router.
Recently I played around with FreeNX on my own desktop, and I'd like to
install it on these two computers. On my PC, I just redirected port 22
in the router, so SSH (and thus FreeNX) requests from the outside get
redirected to my desktop PC.

Please help me rate vnc, rdesktop, and freenx
I have been dragging my feet on remote display, and have just gotten VNC
going to have SOMETHING to move off the start line. But I need the
'best' for different situations, so I want to rate them.
1 to 3 where 1 is the 'best' for the catagory and 3 the loser.

Freenx/x2go on CentOS7?
Can anyone comment on the best remote GUI approach for C7 yet?
X2goserver is in epel but when I tried it on the RHEL beta it only
worked with a KDE desktop due to the 3d requirement of Gnome3.

freenx in rootless mode and session resume anyone?
Hi
I suceeded to run freenx on centos3 with the nomachine client, but I
still have some issues.
First I can only get a new whole desktop (kde) session. I cannot resume
it, and it always leave tons of process that I have to kill from root.
I don't need the whole kde desktop, and only want to have single
windows. This is called the rootless mode I think and cannot make it
work, it simply

vnc - single application or a "remote localhost" on Firefox
Normally I use VNC-over-SSH to provide a complete desktop to a remote user.
Is there a way to provide a single application to a user instead of a complete
desktop?
In this case I am looking for a method to provide remote report-viewing access
to LedgerSMB for a company's outside accountant. LedgerSMB runs through a web
browser (i.e. http://localhost/ledgersmb) so he doesn't need or want

Running graphical applications from CentOS headless vm
Hi all,
I have installed a CentOS7 vm in my home server with all graphical tools installed: Gnome, Chrome, Tor Borwser, etc. My idea is to run these graphical applications from two MacOSX desktops. What I am looking for is something similar like Microsoft RDP services that supports copy and paste between client and server, sound, clipboard, etc ...
I have seen a possible solution using xrdp:

Monitoring a remote server with Conky ?
Hi,
I've been using Conky for some time, a nifty utility to monitor just
about anything on the PC. Vital things like CPU, RAM, swap, disks,
current song playing in MPD :o)
Here's what it looks like :

Installing a file only if a package is available
Hi,
is there a way to make sure a file is installed only if a certain
package is installed on the client?
e.g. I want to distribute the client key for NX via puppet. However I
only want to install these files if package ''freenx'' is installed on the
client.
I tried adding ''require => package["freenx"]'' but then puppetd complains
