Am I misunderstanding "require_dependency"?
Hi From what I understand about documentation about require_dependency, this function will work like require but the file will be reloaded on every request to the server when in development mode. I have bootstrapped am minimal RoR project with 0.13.1 Rails. I have created a minimal Controller and hooked up it''s "index" action at the site root. I have also created a

dispatch.fcgi hanging after lighttpd shutdown
Hi. I''m using RoR 1.0 with FastCGI and lighttpd on a Debian 3.1 box. I have configured lighttpd to do adaptive spawning of the FastCGI processes. However, after shutting down lighttpd the FastCGI processes remain running. Did this problem occur to anyone of you? Is there a fix? I''d be really grateful for every answer. Dedicated Host Recommendations?
I currently have a dedicated server at ev1servers, but it''s getting rather antiquated (Redhat 9) and am looking to upgrade. I''m thinking about serverbeach.com - one of their CentOS servers. Anybody have any recommendations for dedicated servers on which to run Rails? Hopefully less than $200/month. Thanks! CSN __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?

[panic] ipw and kismet
Hello, I almost always get a panic when running kismet on my ipw-Interface under 6.1-PRERELEASE. This has been the case ever since ipw hit the tree. Sometimes kismet works, sometimes it doesn't. A sure way to trigger the panic is to switch between bss/ibss/monitor mode prior to running kismet. Perhaps there is a bug in the re-initialization when loading a different firmware? Is this panic

model - controller always one-on-one?
Hi All, Is it necessary to always have a controller per model? Rephrased: Would you end up jumping through hoops in the future if you have a controller called Customer in which you add methods to create new companies as well as new contacts? a complex availability problem
Ok, this is a hard one and I just thought I''d see if people on the list had any suggestions on how they would approach this, I''ve not started to implement the rails to handle this yet as I''m still at the paper planning phase. I''m building an app that has to handle availability for travel packages. The complexity comes in that a person can choose a start

validates_numericality_of :not_equal_to
I have a situation in which I want to validate a number is not zero. Both positive and negative values are acceptable, just not zero. validates_numericality_of has an :equal_to attribute, but I don''t see a :not_equal_to. I have not yet been able to find anyone who has discussed this. I did find information about custom validators, so I am now using a custom validator to check the field

Logging Exceptions
Hi, I am using Mongrel with my own XmlRpcHandler and I get sporadic "500" errors from Mongrel. The handler wraps around the xmlrpc/server module and I am pretty sure that the error is mine and neither in mongrel or xmlrpc/server. I catch all exceptions in my xmlrpc/server handler and do not send out 500 http answers from there. Thus, I expect the problem is in my handler.

Suddenly a Blank Page
This is apache/fcgi/rails/firefox. When using a rails app we have been experiencing sudden blank pages in the browser. We show an model "new object" page and start changing stuff and all of a sudden the page will be erased to blank! Any idea what could cause something like this? -- Posted with http://DevLists.com. inside matroska
hi everyone ! since nobody answered the question in the extension-thread, i would like to ask again in a new thread: why does xiph and the theora-team not promote the matroska-format? do you just prefer ogg because its "home-made" or are there technical advantages over mkv? thanks! greetings hannes hauswedell

igraph: decompose.graph: Error: protect(): protection stack overflow
I just got this error: > library(igraph) > comp <- decompose.graph(gr) Error: protect(): protection stack overflow Error: protect(): protection stack overflow > what can I do? the digraph is, indeed, large (300,000 vertexes), but there are very many very small components (which I would rather not discard). PS. the doc for decompose.graph does not say which mode is the default. --

send a POST off a link, not a button.
Hi, Got a question about how the book suggests sending POST requests using a form whenever one intents to change some database state. So I converted a bunch of links to forms which ended up creating buttons. I was wondering if there was a way to keep them links rather than buttons but still use POST in a form? thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...

caching in development mode
Hi, I created some new models that do not extend ActiveRecord::Base. For some reason, these classes are being cached in development mode. Controllers are not cached, neither are models extending ActiveRecord::Base. Has anyone else seen this? Here are my relevant development.rb settings: Dependencies.mechanism = :load
