S4SXP type vs S4 object bit?
Hi Travers,
Just an additional remarks to Michael's answer, if your S4 class inherits
from R's basic types, say integer, the resulting object will be an INTSXP.
If your S4 class does not inherit from any class, it will be an S4SXP. You
can think about this question from the object-oriented framework: If one
class inherits the integer class, what should R do to make all the integer

Hosts leaving domain without reasons...
Hello all,
I've got Samba 3.0.24-6etch4 (Debian revision) running on a production server
which acts as a PDC for a network of some Windows XP clients (around 250).
Since sometime (I am not able to determine exactly when) I get a strange
problem arising : some clients are banned from my domain. The only solution I
found is to reintroduced the clients into the domain. Once hosts have rejoined

SUGGESTION: Settings to disable forked processing in R, e.g. parallel::mclapply()
I think it's worth saying that mclapply() works as documented: it
relies on forking, and so doesn't work well in environments where it's
unsafe to fork. This is spelled out explicitly in the documentation of
?mclapply:
It is strongly discouraged to use these functions in GUI or embedded
environments, because it leads to several processes sharing the same
GUI which will likely cause

seeking a developper documentation for jbd and ext3
Hi,
I am a student in computer science and I develop a program that tries to
explain other students the mecanisms of the ext3 filesystem : we show
the content of each structure and explain what it means.
But I was unable to find a developper documentation for the jounalizing
functionality (jbd).
Could you please tell me where can I find one ? ( in english or in french )
Also a documentation

Firewall will definatelyincreasejitters inyourvoice conversation
Do you mean this occurs when traffic is passed over an IPSec tunnel or
that it occurs anytime a tunnel is use on a machine that also is passing
VoIP traffic (outside the tunnel)?
I assume you must mean over the tunnel but I am curious...
Thanks,

Re: Numbers behind "df" and "tune2fs"
In fact the thing I really want to achieve is to be able to find the
values and the algorithm that enable me to reproduce the percentage
given by df (and to understand deeply what it means).
Why do I need it? Because I'm trying to write some script to do
capacity planning and space problem forecast. Currently I don't really
know which values I should use to do it. (I could use the

S4SXP type vs S4 object bit?
I'm trying to understand the R internals a bit better and reading over the
documentation.
I see that there is a bit related to whether an object is S4
(S4_OBJECT_MASK), and also the object type S4SXP (25). The documentation
makes clear that these two things aren't the same.
But in practice, will the S4-bit and object type ever disagree for S4
objects? I know that one can set the bit

Bridging lan over wireless link
Hi all,
I want to create a bridge (see picture below) between 2 LANs with the same IP range (192.168.0.0/24) using 2 wireless links that use load sharing over multiple interfaces (as descibed here: http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.loadshare.html) for load balancing and fault tolerance. Both links should use IPsec for encryption.
I have googled for an example that does this but I could not find it.

thinkpad x200 wireless LAN
On the following system:
Linux 2.6.18-128.el5 #1 SMP Wed Jan 21 10:41:14 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux
the Intel 5100 pci wireless adapter appears to be detected and a
reasonable driver is indicated (iwlagn) but the radio does not appear to
be on, at least the little antenna like LED is off. The radio switch is
on and the Bluetooth LED is on. Has any one conquered this yet?

Wireless Lan and icecast
Is there any issues with running icecast on a wireless lan. My friend has the encoder on 1 machine and is feeding it to icecast over a wireless nic to another machine which is connected to a router via a wired NIC but after the feeds been on for awhile it starts buffering.

[Bridge] Bridging a wireless/wired LAN and a PPPoE connection
Hi all,
I'm trying out bridging for my wireless and wired LAN, so that they can
both use my PPPoE connection. Here's the network structure, pretty easy:
darjeeling (192.168.1.7) ringo (192.168.1.3)
(mtu 1500) (mtu 1500)
\ /
\ wlan0 <--br0 (mtu 1500)--> eth1

Objectsize function visiting every element for alt-rep strings
Travers,
Great to hear you're trying out the ALTREP stuff, good on you :).
Did you mean the get_altstring_Elt_method? I see the code in size.c within
utils that grabs each element, but I don't see any setting (and the setters
are noops currently anyway they just do things the old way).
One thing we have to decide is what object.size means for an altrep. I tend
to think it should mean

Re: Numbers behind "df" and "tune2fs"
OK. Thanks for the journal information. I thought tune2fs -l and
dumpe2fs were the same. In reality it's almost the same but not
entirely ^^
I hear you about all the internal mecanisms that make the FS working
or give it some features, and I do understand that it takes some place
on the disk. However what I don't understand is why the number given
in the "available column" is

Pager Notification
Hi;
Before I tell a customer that this would require custom development I
figured I would ask here.
Does Asterisk support pager notification of new voicemails out of the
box? Or do I need an AGI script to do that?
Also, if I want to call a number from an automated program in Asterisk
and get the DTMF tones entered by the user on the other side, is there
an easy way to do this?

Firewall will definatelyincrease jittersinyourvoice conversation
Typically a "hardware" firewall is specialized and uses ASICs. Because
the solution utilizes specialized chips tailored to the task, this is
considered a hardware based solution. Of course software is involved
but it too is specialized and is even proprietary in nature.
A "software" firewall, be it BlackICE or even a Linux on PC uses no
specialized hardware. Thus the

Using domain logons with 2 controllers and wireless lan
Hi all,
Sorry if the subject is a bit irrelevant or hard to understand, I have no
idea on what subject should I put down.
My company has a samba domain controller. All users must logon before they
can gain access to the fileserver and printers. My home also has a samba
domain controller. I use it mainly for file sharing on my home network.
Now I am planning to purchase a laptop with wireless

Performant in terms of speed. There's no copying in that example
using `mclapply` and so it is significantly faster than other
alternatives.
It is a very simple and contrived example, but
