0.13 ajax sortable lists and acts_as_list
I''m trying to figure out a good way to get acts_as_list and the new
sortable lists to play nicely together, but they don''t seem like
they''re designed to mesh well. The ajax sortable lists post a
complete ordered list of ids back to the server after every change,
but acts_as_list is designed to deal with diff-like changes, rather
than reordering the whole list from

adding habtm through migrations
Hello,
I''m stuck, I''ve got a model Product and would like to add a new model
called Category. Furthermore, I want to set up a many2many
relationship between the mentioned models. the problem is that I do
not know how to set the primary key in the categories_products table.
this is what I''ve got in my migration file:
create_table :categories do |t|
t.column :name,

Model Madness: habtm vs through
This has me scratching my head:
a Person has many Things
a Person has many Collections
a Collection has many Things
...Things in a Collection are ordered
...Things in a Collection can be related to (created by) any User
...a collection has additional attributes, such as a name etc
I am confused about habtm in rails (especially when using
acts_as_habtm_list) vs. going the :through route.

Find rows with associations in habtm
This may have been asked/answered before - if so, i apologise...
I have the following table layout in a habtm relationship:

What would be the best way to pull out all the products for a given
category? At the

Prevent duplicate HABTM associations
Hi,
I am trying to restrict duplicate has_and_belongs_to_many associations.
I tried to find support for a association validation for duplicates but
couldn''t find anything.
I understand I could use :uniq=>true on the model association but this
would only prevent it from displaying duplicates, I want to stop
duplicate associations being inserted in the first place.
I have a vague

HABTM and acts_as_list
I don''t think this needs much explanation. Is what I''m trying to do
even possible?
class CreateLanguagesProducts < ActiveRecord::Migration
create_table languages_products do |t|
t.column :language_id, :integer
t.column :product_id, :integer
t.column :language_position, :integer
end
end
class Language < ActiveRecord::Base

Doubt on composite index
The AWDwR book has the following:
add_index :categories_products, [:product_id, :category_id]
add_index :categories_products, :category_id
The first, composite index actually serves two purposes: it creates an index which can be searched
on both foreign key columns, and with most databases it also creates an
index that enables fast lookup by the product id. The second index then
completes

habtm with acts_as_list vs. :through
Hi,
I am interested in has_and_belongs_to_many with an acts_as_list
relationship where the position field is in the join table. I found
the following tutorial
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/HowToUseActsAsListWithHasAndBelongsToMany
Is there a newer way that is less complicated?
What about the :through parameter that I read DHH is writing? Is that
a reality yet?
Thanks,
Peter

many-to-many error
hey all. I''m trying to set up a many-to-many relationship with products
and categories.
I''ve got the product model (product.rb) set up:
class Product < ActiveRecord::Base
has_and_belongs_to_many :categories
end
and a similar one for category.rb
And I''ve got the tables set up -- products, categories,
categories_products
But when I load, I get: undefined method

Need for multiple acts_as_list
I have a model "Childmodel" that belongs_to two other models "Parent1"
and "Parent2". "Parent1" "has_many :childmodels, :order => :positionp1"
and "Parent2" "has_many :childmodels, :order => :positionp2". i.e. The
child is independently positioned within each of its parents.
This works fine and gets me the useful

Join table not being populated
Hello,
I have the usual Categories and Products table scenario, mediated by a
Categories_Products join table. When I create a new Product and into a
given Category, I notice that my join table is not being populated.
Shouldn''t the join Categories_Products table be populated?
Thanks,

Meta-question about the list
Question about the list in general: by default, it''s set up so that
replies go to the sender, rather than the list. However, on other
lists I usually chat on, replies by default generally go to the list.
This seems to encourage more discussion. Would it be a good idea to
change that default? Or am I just crazy.
Best,
Raymond

importing data with migration for habtm
I have 2 tables: products and categories. They are both linked by a
habtm association. I have a fixture to import all the data in each table
but I dont know how to import the data in the categories_products table
since that table has no model, so I cant use that code:
f = Fixtures.new(Category.connection, # a database connection
"categories", # table name

DoubleRenderError exception
The DoubleRenderError exception recently introduced is forcing me to go back and rewrite my apps authentication handler. Before I could do a redirect right in the middle of a request. Whatever was happening after that went unnoticed, I assumed it was simply ending the request after the redirect was called, but apparently it was going on and rendering the page.
Why can''t a redirect

vendor/plugins/acts_as_list/test/list_test.rb

Help needed with acts_as_list
Hi ! There must be something I don''t understand clearly in acts_as_list
I have a list of gallery entries (images + text), model is GalleryEntry.
I have a field in_exhibition (boolean)
I want the list to be sorted with a scope on in_exhibition : from 1 to N
for every record having in_exhibition = false and 1 to N for every
record having in_exhibition = true
When I use acts_as_list

I am trying to install acts_as_list in a rails 2.2.2 project but when I
try the following: ruby script/plugin install acts_as_list
I get: Plugin not found: ["acts_as_list"]
I had to download the acts_as_list plugin from the github because it
isn''t included in Rails 2.2.2.
The files are in my vendor/plugins/acts_as_list folder so I have:

Severe STI, HABTM with Attributes and 1.1
All,
I had been working on a project that was using STI to a very high
degree. It also was using a HABTM table that had a couple extra
attributes. It seems that with 1.1 push_with_attributes is deprecated
and I am having a bit of trouble moving things to using has_many
:through
The original schema I had worked like this :
create_table "nodes" do |t|
t.column "title",

Help with nested HABTM relationship
Hi,
I am trying to perform a query with ActiveRecord that I want to put into
a Rails application later. For now I just wrote it within a plain old
Ruby script for easier testing.
I am working with an existing database so I had to map some foreign keys
myself. As you can see from the models below, the database has a
structure of
Prospectlists <=habtm=> Contacts <=habtm=> Accounts

ActsAsList specs
Hi,
How are people specifying models which act_as_list?
I''m thinking that it would be possible to check that acts_as_list
instance methods have been added to a class using something like this:
describe Page, "acts_as_list" do
it "should act as a list" do
Page.ancestors.should be_include(ActiveRecord::Acts::List::InstanceMethods)
end
it "should use
