VLANs with Xen - work with 1 Gbit, doesn''t with 100 Mbit cards?
I have a strange problem with VLANs with Xen 3.0.4. I signalled it on Xen-users list, but found no definitive solution to it. I configure VLANs so that they are available in dom0; domUs don''t know that they use VLANs. I use a stock "network-bridge" comming from Xen for setting up networking: #!/bin/bash dir=$(dirname "$0") "$dir/network-bridge"

Speed issue in only one direction
Hi all, I'm back again with my speed issues. The past issues where dependant of network I used. Now I run my tests in a lab, with 2 configurations linked by a Gigabit switch : node1: Intel Core i5-2400 with Debian 7.2 node2: Intel Core i5-3570 with Debian 7.2 Both have AES and PCLMULQDQ announced in /proc/cpuinfo. I use Tinc 1.1 from Git. When I run an iperf test from node2 (client) to

New hardware
Hi! I want to upgrade hardware on my router (iptables, htb, >1000 users). Now it is based on usual desktop PC (Intel Prescott P4 3.00 Ghz, 1 Gb RAM). The reason of hardware upgrade is growing up number of users, also we are planning to increase upstream link from 100 Mbit/s to 1 Gbit/s. Iptables rules are now optimized with ipset tool, for tc I''m using hash tables as well. So I

Performance Issues with GBit LAN
Hi. I have 2 PC's connected with 1GBit NIC's. When I transfer a file from my File-Server(Redhat9.0, 256 SD-RAM, 300MHz PII, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD200JB RAID 0) to my Windows-PC(AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 1024 MB DDR-RAM, WINXP PRO, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD080JB RAID 0) with Samba, i get Speeds around 8-9MB/sec. I think this is too low for an GBit Network, so i tested the

Asterisk & MS RTC Library & Ethernet Capacity
Hi guys, I was wondering whether there's anyone who could share his/her experiences with using Microsoft RTC Library. In particular I am wondering what Ethernet capacity should I have in scenario of 30 people using Microsoft RTC Library for SIP communication (PBX is obviously Asterisk :-) ) concurrently (alaw codec being used)? What problems can be expected in such scenario? Would a good 1

Starting tcpdump increases Samba performance 20 times
Hello, first post here from me. I have performance problems with Samba (3.0.22-1ubuntu3.1) on Ubuntu 6.06, fully updated. I get < 10 Mbit/sec over a GBit LAN, transferring files from Windows Server 2003 SP1 (or XP SP2) to Samba shares. The Ubuntu server is running on a P4 3.6 GHz with 2 GB RAM, the Win2k3 is running in a virtual machine on VMWare ESX 3.0.1. I have verified the problem on a Win

Samba Performance for Digital Recording
Hello, We are doing digital recording over a 100 Mb/s switched network to a dedicated Samba NAS-Filer and need to optimize our workflow and present some performance data. I just want to be sure, to not overlook some important aspect in my experimental setup. Let me explain in short what is our infrastructure: The Swiss Library for the Blind has started producing Digital Talking Books (see

[Bridge] Measuring Bridge Performance (+ebtables/iptables)
Hello, has anyone done any performance measuring of Linux Bridge + firewalling? I did search the net for a long time, to find out what would be the best way to measure the (maximum) performance/throughput. I didn't really come to a conclusion I'm satisfied with. Nevertheless I did create a small bridged test setup with 4 servers (gbit nics) and a linux bridge (2 x 100 mbit nic), all on

Using vpn direct I get the maximum speed of the local internet connection about 6MiB/s Using samba the maximum speed is about 2,6 MiB/s for a single download and twice 2.2MiB/s for a double download Upload is the same as my internet connection 1MiB/s I increased the speed

hardware and network requirements
Hi i'm planning to migrate a callcenter to asterisk and VOIP, the call center can have up to 25 cuncurrents agents logged in. I'll have some simplty IVR business logic and the some queues. Can a normal server with 1 GB ram 100 GB HDD Pentium 4 3.6 Ghz CPU Ethernet 10/100/1000 Support this? Would you suggest me a particular products? The server and the agents will be in the same LAN,

Fail-over uplink problem
Hi list, I have a problem I thought was simple first, but now I''m stuck. In a nutshell, it''s about redundant uplinks at an outside location. Crude ASCII-Art follows: Internet | | +------------+ | cisco with | | uplinks | +------------+ | | ATM interface +----------+ ... | alvarion | | | wireless

bonding + VLANs -> Oops/panic, no VLAN on 100 Mbit cards [SOLVED]
As the issue concerns both the -user (configuration) and -devel (OOPS), I''m sending this message to both lists. Some time ago I complained about two problems: - VLANs are not working on machines with 100 Mbit cards - I get a kernel Oops (sometimes panic) when I try to use bonding and VLANs with Xen The root of the issue is the same in both cases: VLAN interfaces must *not* be

Horrible write performance from XP to Samba
I noted an extremely poor performance when copying big files from a windows xp client to a samba share. The exact version of samba does not seem to matter: I tried several different samba servers with versions between 3.014 and 3.0.23b running on Linux 2.4.32 and 2.6.17 (machines and network otherwise idle, clients connected via fast ethernet, servers via Gbit; network performance in both

OFF TOPIC: Core router upgrade for a voip colocation center
Hello, hope this isn't too far offtopic here but being a troller for a long time here I've realized there is a great knowledge base so I wanted to at least see if i could get some tips. I help run a small colocation company in California and I am in the middle of recommending a new 'core router' platform for our network. We offer mainly colo and dedicated servers, and several of

Linux HA may not be the best choice in your situation. High Availability using 2 sites
Just to clarify, I'm looking at this from an application layer Point of View. One of the reasons why I'm looking at it that way, is because Tim said he was looking at LinuxHA..."application level" redundancy that uses IP. Tim, just to let you know, I don't believe that LinuxHA will work in the way you described, only because of the different IP ranges. It looks like Linux

RE: Routing & NAT Problem take #2
Cross posted to Netfilter and LARTC... Grant & ArcosCom Linux User Thanks for your replies. Firstly, one problem was with my Token Bucket Filler on one of the interfaces, as it was dropping lots of packets and stopping connections from working over that interface. This lead to some strange results, with apparent partial success. Secondly, I''ve decided against trying to get it

HTB.init for zebra BGP
Hi, I have successfully shape bandwidth using htb.init using ip address , but when i try to shape zebra BGP using their ip address and BGP port it can''t match the class for BGP and always get the default class. Here''s my htb.init script in the bridge : #eth0-2:50.bgp RATE=128kbit RULE=192.168.192.163 RULE=192.168.199.22 RULE=*:179 #eth1-2:50.bgp RATE=128kbit

RE: HOW TO COMBINE 2 DSL LINES IN THE SAME COMPUTER
J, What i meant is...like in Linux you make use of the two external connections and collate them as mentioned in the document. Can you try keeping the Linux box in front of the two windowze boxen and collate the two LAN connections coming from them as mentioned in the HOWTO???.
