Spec/Test Speed
Just wanted to pick some smart people about this topic: What are you
guys doing to increase the speed of your specs?
I''m a big fan of autotest, but right now my current project has 438
specs (for rails). Most of them are in the model, and for all of
them we are hitting the database (they are more functional specs than
unit-tests). The whole suite takes 112 seconds (meaning the

Test::Unit to RSpec
So I''ve just started working on a rails project which currently has
something like 7500 LOC. All of the tests are written in Test::Unit,
although the test coverage is pretty poor: rcov says that 25% of the
code is covered, while rake stats shows the code to test ratio as
1:0.1 (800 lines of test code).
I guess I''m wondering what would generally be advisable here. Is it

spec_distributed with rails
Is this the appropriate place to talk about spec_distributed? If
not, I''ll post the spec-ext (seemingly dead) mailing list on
rubyforge...
I was able to run a non-rails project with
Spec::Distributed::RindaSlaveRunner (and RindaMasterRunner). But I''m
stumped on how to do it with a rails project, when I have rspec trunk
installed. I continue to get wrong error

UI Integration with RSpec?
Hi all,
Is there any integration with testing tools such as RSpec or
Test::Unit planned? I see that the cruise task is run correctly, but
the tests show up underneath the build log. Ideally I''d like them to
show up the same way that they do in ''java'' CruiseControl, in their
own section of tests.

Autotest with rspec HTML output
Hey all,
I was just wondering if any one has played around with getting
autotest''s rspec integration working with rspec''s HTML output. I really
like how in the rspec textmate bundle the context of the failing code
is inlined with the failing spec along with the exact line highlighted
and a link to the exact spot in reference. However, I rarely use this
nice output since

Getting Started with Story Runner
I haven''t found any How To''s to use story runner and I''m not sure how to get
started.
Should I be looking for resources on how to use rbehave?
How do I generate my first Story?

RSpec TMbundle
I tried checking it out today using instructions here:
http://rspec.rubyforge.org/tools/extensions/editors/textmate.html
I get a ''svn: Connection closed unexpectedly''. Did it move or is it
down?

Uninitialized constant Spec:Story
Hi, I''m fairly new to Rails and v. new to RSpec. Think it looks pretty
useful and so I''m trying it out for the first time. I have installed the
rspec-rails gem and created a simple plain text my_story file and
my_story.rb file along the lines described here -

Testing c code with rspec?
Hey all,
Has any one ever tested or try to test c code with rspec? I am using
system calls to my compiled c program and testing against the standard
output but I would like to get a lot more granular than this. I have
experimented with using RubyInline to test individual functions and that
works on functions that are not calling other c functions. I have some
other ideas on how to do this

Using the mock framework in story runner
Hey all,
What is the easiest way to include rpec''s mocking framework into a story
so I can use it? I want to use it to stub out a Net::HTTP method so I''m
not making API calls every time I run my story. :)
Thanks,
Ben

Patch idea for rspec_on_rails
I recently wrote a matcher for testing AR associations which allows
you to specify things like:
Foo.should have_many(:bars).through(:bazes)
I''m pretty darned proud of it and a couple of people have suggested
that I should submit it to the rspec_on_rails project. Before I go to
the trouble of writing out rdoc and fully spec''ing it, I just wanted
to make sure this was

Problems running features with Textmate Cucumber bundle
I finally plunked down for the beta RSpec bundle and I''m working
through the initial example. Although I''m a fairly experienced RSpec
user, I''m stlll learning new tricks.
Anyway, I''m going though the mastermind example, and everything is
going well, except that I decided to also try out the Textmate bundle
for Cucumber. I decided to use Ben Mabey''s

How do I best setup data for Story Runner?
Just started looking at the Story Runner integration, and am
converting a few Rails integration tests to get a feel for it.
My integration tests relied on fixtures, and since my models have a
significant amount of validation (and hence need valid data unless I
save without validation), this has made setup easy.
With stories however, I''m wondering what the recommended approach is.

Pretty HTML reporting for stories
Hi all,
I''m just getting to grips with rspec, and I''m trying to put together a
showy demo. We''re trying to use the (plain text) stories feature, rather
than the specs. I''d like to show off a fancy HTML report of the results
if possible.
So it seems I can do this from the spec command line tool, but I can''t
make it work for a story.
I''ve got

[Cucumber] pretty html output?
Cucumberists (and RSpec Classic users ;):
How can we convert a Cucumber feature file into HTML with syntax highlighting?
Not the test-runner output; that''s preprocessed so it does not match the input
file...

rspec on rails: undefined method ''controller_name''
Im trying to write a controller spec, but when I run it I get an error like
the one below.
I found Bug6707
(http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/rspec-devel/2007-March/002147.html
), but I get the error no matter how I run the spec
( whether I use rake or not)
Any ideas?
I am using 0.8.2

[Cucumber] Cucumber and acts_as_xapian
Hey list,
Anyone have experience with acts_as_xapian and Cucumber? I''m
struggling with updating xapian''s index, to actually "find" fluff
that has been indexed..
In a scenario, I''m adding a bunch of articles, and in the actual
search step, I run:
When "I search for \"$query\"" do |query|
%x[rake RAILS_ENV=test xapian:update_index]
