[PATCH] RHEV: Use dd and direct io to write to NFS
I've been experiencing severe stability issues writing large amounts of data to an NFS export (I have never successfully written 8GB of data without having to reboot my machine). This patch alleviates the problem. I have successfully exported an 8GB disk with this patch in place. --- lib/Sys/VirtV2V/Target/RHEV.pm | 29 ++++++----------------------- 1 files changed, 6 insertions(+), 23

Puppet on busybox, Bob Hope or No Hope?
When I say busybox it''s actually VMware ESX server which seems to use busybox (which I guess is the case a number of other software appliances) . Reason for wanting to install puppet is to run the cli tools to create nightly vmware snapshots. I''m happy to give it a go (and add the docs to the wiki) but I''m not too sure at this stage how big a task this might be and what,

P2Vs seem to require a very robust Ethernet
Now that we can gather diagnostic info, I think I know why our P2Vs kept failing last week. Another one just died right in front of my eyes. I think either the Ethernet or NFS server at this site occasionally "blips" offline when it gets busy and that messes up P2V migrations. The RHEV export domain is an NFS share offered by an old Storagetek NAS, connected over a 10/100 Ethernet.

Clients can find printer when "browsing" but not otherwise
I had a working Samba installation on my home network. Then I replaced one printer with another. The new printer is successfully installed on my RedHat 9.0 system on /dev/lp0. It is an Epson C82. From the RedHat system all is well. However, I am unable to print to this printer via Windows XP boxes on my network. Samba is working to the extent that Windows can find these printers via

Share trash can?
Is there a trash can, or a way to add one, so that if a user deletes a file off the share it just goes away until a nightly purge is done? Thanks, Robert

transfering users from PDC to print/file server
I have a Samba PDC server running on Fedora Core. I also have 3 samba print servers and 1 samba file server setup on RedHat 9 machines. How do I make my RedHat file and print servers to get user information from the PDC so I don't have to set up users on every single server? I appreciate your help! Method of specifying tags in the puppetd.conf
Hi, From looking at the puppetd --help, there is not currently (at 0.22.4) a method of specifying tags in the puppetd.conf. I was hoping to use this for the following reason: Currently, I use ''noop = true'' in my puppetd.conf, and run ''puppetd --no-noop {tags}'' to install the configurations that I am happy with. This is because I''m currently

dry-run?
Greetings. Long story short ... configuration changes were made to my puppet clients while my puppet server was unavailable. I would like to run puppetd in such a way that it will list what files it would replace, but not actually replace them, so that I can synchronize my server with my various clients. rsync has a -n (--dry-run) option that does this. But I can''t find one in

Facter ''operatingsystemrelease'' fact.
From looking at the Facter code, it looks like the ''operatingsystemrelease'' fact is currently a mirror of the ''kernelrelease'' fact. I''d like to implement this fact so that it returns the major version of the operating system, eg: Debian Sarge: operatingsystemrelease => 3.1 Debian Etch: operatingsystemrelease => 4.0 RHEL3 update 8:

If anyone has time to look at this problem I would appreciate it. I think I am looking for a way to increase the "timeout" in samba (in the smb.conf file) for reporting a "down" link or "can't read xyz file". However I am writing to you folks because this problem has come up while using rsync my problem ========== We have a wan in which links from a

Rails 3 test database issues
I am having a problem using the test database in Rails 3. It apparently has kept track of aspects of the database that I deleted completely from my migrations at some point. I don''t always use the ''down'' part of a migration and sometimes just recreate the whole database. I did rake db:migrate:reset and rake db:test:prepare, but when I run my test it is trying to access

Hello R users, I found the odfWeave package to create an odf document. It seems to be a very nice tool. So i tried to used it to create a report with multiple plot: I create an odt file with some code inside: I connect to a mysql database I get a list of projects foreach project I would like to make a plot (a map exactly) then in a R console I use the odfweave (inFile, outFile) function.
