ActiveRecord::Base#update_all expected behaviour
Hi
I noticed that if in my code I use the following:
Photo.update_all("title = ''Ruby rocks'' ", "id IN (#{@photo_ids})")
All my objects are properly updated but none of the filters/callbacks
are triggered. Is that what''s expected?
I have a before_update filter set on the Photo class and it gets
totally ignored, I guess the only way to solve this

set_default_values rocket science - continuing after_initialize/after_find misfeature
Just starting a new thread so that it''s easy to follow.
I just submitted a patch at trac to add a new class method called
"set_default_values" ( not a great name I think ), which lets you do
all kinds of crazy stuff with setting default values.
This ticket is at http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/9093 and example

with_scope issue
I have the following code:

has_many :requests do

find(:all, options)
end
end
end

Executing user.requests.find_active results in the following SQL:

test/mocks/ in rails directory structure
Anyone ever uses test/mocks/development && test/mocks/test directories ?
If someone does, test/mocks/development doesn''t really seem like a
nice place for putting development environment mocked classes. May be
mocks/ should be moved to RAILS_ROOT ? Or may be it should be removed.

Making Validations Optional
Hello,
I am working with URL validations. I want this validation to be
optional if the data exists in the form submission. I have tried
several things.
validates_format_of :website,
:if => params[:organization][:website],
:with => /((http|https):\/\/)?[a-z0-9]+([\-\.]{1}[a-z0-9]+)*\.[a-z]
{2,5}(([0-9]{1,5})?\/.*)?/,

ActiveRecord Limitation (Advance)
Or is it ?
Need to be able to :-
@search =
Form.find(:all, :include=>[:form_type, :form_type_items], :conditions=>....)
I need in the Form model a :form_type_items, the question is, what is
the relationship type?

Utility that checks outdated patches
I just noticed I frequently encounter patches that need to be updated
because of applied changes. Maybe this can be automated? Not
automating the "updating of the patch" part, but the part where a
comment is posted to the ticket so the submitter is informed.

no route found to match "/rails/info/properties" with {:method=>:get}
After a new install (Ruby, Rails en Gem) on a newly installed OS. I''m
getting a ''no route found to match'' error. I Googled a bit, and saw
that more people had this problem with older rails versions. I''m on
Ruby 1.8.6, Rails 1.2.3 and Gem is 0.9.4, on a Mac running OS 10.4.9.
Any suggestion is welcome.

Robert.

walkthrough: Rails 2.0 startup process
I haven’t found a complete big-picture walkthrough for the Rails
startup process when I looked for one recently.
There are some really useful resources about this but they are for
Rails 1.2 and each of them only covers certain parts of the process.
Thus, I’ve taken some notes while reading to the Rails code and
compiled the following guide from them.

STI, HABTM & counter_cache
Hello world...
I have an interesting issue that the online docs aren''t helping me with.
In my app I have 4 models
Item < ActiveRecord
Deal < Item
Product < Item
Category < ActiveRecord
Item has_and_belongs_to_many :categories...
On each category record I''d like to maintain a product_count and deal_count
to increase performance. This doesn''t appear

Counter cache like plugin for sum
Hi list,
Is there a plugin similar to counter_cache except for caching sums
instead of counts? The reason I ask is for performance and convenience
for reporting.

Edge Rails namespaced routing
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone came across a similar scenario when working
with namespaced routes with edge rails.
Consider an application with controllers customers and products that
also have other resources.
map.resources :customers do |customer|
customer.resources :notes
customer.resources :tags
end
map.resources :products do |product|
customer.resources :notes
customer.resources

HABTM 1.1 - counter cache?
Just wondering - will HABTM (or thru or whatever it''s called) in Rails

Custom counter cache
class Category
has_many :tracks
end
class Track
belongs_to :category, :counter_cache => true
named_scope :converted, :conditions => {:converted => true}
named_scope :active, :conditions => {:active => true}
end
I want to make custom counters for scoped associations, e.g:
category.converted_tracks_count
category.active_tracks_count
And when `track` changes its converted,

Model.find(:all) where Model.association has more then 0 items?
Hi everyone,
I have a Department model that has_many people. How do I go about
finding all departments with more than 0 people?
Department.find(:all, :conditions => Department.people.size > 0)
That, of course, doesn''t work, but it was as close as I could come.
Thanks!

counter_cache, has_many and belongs_to
I am a bit confused about counter_cache here. The API docs
http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActiveRecord/Associations/ClassMethods.html
say that only the belongs_to association can take the :counter_cache
option. When I try to use it on a has_many I get an "unknown key(s):
counter_cache" error.
Why would this be the case? belongs_to means that this model has a
field with an id

counter_cache is not looking for children_count with acts_as_tree
Hi there, the acts_as_tree API says that I can set a counter cache and
that it will automatically increment the "children_count" column. I
did that but when I create a new page it asks for a "pages_count"
column instead.
Here is the relevant part of page.rb model:
class Page < ActiveRecord::Base
acts_as_tree :order => :position, :counter_cache => true

conditional updated_on update
Hi list,
I''ve got some counter_caches in a model. When these get incremented - say on
a page view - my updated_on column also gets updated. How can I
conditionally not update updated_on if just these counter_cache columns
change?
The problem with that is that I am using acts_as_versioned which clones the
record each time updated_on changes. I am successfully ignoring the
counter_cache
