how to use ruby debugger instead of irb from script/breakpointer
Hello -
I would like to use the ruby debugger instead of irb
for a breakpoint enabled by script/breakpointer
in order to step through some code.
How do I do that?

Breakpoints completely fail to work
I did as I was told: add "breakpoint" to an action, start script/server,
start script/breakpointer, then go to the action in the browser.
Absolutely nothing happens, on either side. I''ve tried every variation
of starting what when I can think of, I''ve specified ports, I''ve done
all I can think of, but never once have I gotten the fabled irb prompt

@model.errors.empty? => true; @model.valid? => false
Hi,
So, how can the situation described in the subject come to be?
In other words, what could be invalidating the model, yet not
generating an error?
thanks,
jh
ps.
here''s the breakpoint session paste:
irb(#<#<Class:0xb72eec00>:0xb72eeb10>):003:0> @project.errors.empty?
=> true
irb(#<#<Class:0xb72eec00>:0xb72eeb10>):004:0> @project.valid?
=> false

Problem installing gdb into Rtools42
On second thought, there is a lot of metapramming code in Rcpp that runs
before main, so
I was wrong to say nothing can happen before main() is called.
Strategically placed print
statements may be the best strategy.

Run a custom function through the ruby debugger
Hallo,
I''m developing a custom function that is exhibiting some odd behavior, so I
would like to debug it.
How do I load it in the ruby shell in a way that lets me execute it?
I have tried the steps on the documentation:
irb(main):001:0> require ''puppet''

Help troubleshooting save
I done plenty of saves before in rails, but I must be missing
something simple with this. Can a fresh set of eyes take a look at
this and see why it is not saving:
def addcash(uid)
c = Trade.new
c.attributes = {"user_id" => uid,
"tradetype" => ''9'',
"cash" => 10000}

Paypal IPN - unable to access breakpoint during POST?
Hi all,
I''m trying to debug some code in my paypal instant payment notification
action.
Why can I not access the breakpoint placed inside the action that paypal
POSTs to? It just doesn''t find the server, but it works fine when placed
inside other actions.
I''ve appended the code to the end of this post.
Thanks everyone!

I need debugging tips?
Hi all,
Like most other frameworks, Ruby groups code by Model/View/Controller instead
of by task, and therefore I''m having a hard time debugging a problem from the
Agile Rails book where looping through @items errors out because one or more
items is nil.
I managed to empty the cart by placing session[:cart] = nil in find_cart() in
the store_controller_rb, and the problem continued

complicated finds are eating my sole
I abandoned ruby way for find_by_sql and still can''t get this...
@myplacement = Placement.find_by_sql(
"select * from placement where
:intake_date >= beg_intake_date
and
:intake_date <= end_intake_date")
just a simple date range...it''s killing me - If I knew how to load
placement controller into irb, I could probably try out finds
interactive mode...
Thanks

Single stepping from breakpointer?
Once I use breakpointer to get into an irb
session, is there a way to single step?
Also, is there a command to resume running?
Thanks,
Don

What IDE for Rails on OSX?
Hi,
I''m using TextMate for rails development on OSX, but have reached a point
where I need to run in a debugger and be able to step through the code as it
executes. I have previously used the Eclipse Ruby plug in and another IDE
for ruby development on windows, but never figured out how to run a Rails
app in the debugger.
How are other textmate users debugging and what else is there on

RDT and breakpointer
How to get Rails'' script/breakpointer work in RDT 0.7 in Eclipse 3.1.2?
I''m new to Rails and have gotten breakpointer working in a csh on Fedora
Core 4. Also, the RDT setup works for breakpoints set in straight Ruby
code. I''m trying
http://www.napcs.com/howto/railsonwindows.html#setupbreakpointer. But a
breakpoint set in Eclipse doesn''t get hit at all.

script/console
The agile book says "You can inspect variables, set values, add other
breakpoints, and generally have a good time".
This is very sweet and totally useless. For example, I want to see the session variable,
the cookies variable and so on. These names are unknown. I think I guess that the things
that are available depend on where you put the breakpoint() call. I''ve tried a

Migrate Ubuntu Rails App to Fedora?
I developed a small RoR app on my Ubuntu laptop and I just tried to migrate
it to my "production" box which is Fedora FC3. I moved the entire rails
app. I received this error when I tried to get the first page:

"Broken pipe" and "no such file to load -- irb"
I just switched my rails app, which I had previously been running on my pc,
to my linux server and have decided to use mongrel. However, since doing so
I get an error when I first access the app saying "no such file to load --
irb". After I refresh this error goes away, but I keep getting the
following errors in my logs, and I''ve noticed that certains things, like
sessions and
