[Fwd: Rails AR/Oracle Unit Test: [4185] failed]
So my automated script caught this issue, though I think my email headers were bad, so rails-core has put the automated email on hold pending "moderation". I''ll fix that issue, and look at the one below as well. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Rails AR/Oracle Unit Test: [4185] failed Date: Thu, 6 Apr 2006 08:32:04 -0700 From: Michael Schoen

Re: Rails AR/Oracle Unit Test: [4280] failed
The revised patch submitted on #4748 broke the build, I''m looking to sort out why. Also note that this auto-test email didn''t make it to rails-core because it was too big (every test failed, so the resulting email was huge). I''ll patch my auto-testing script to truncate the email to no larger than a few kb. Michael Schoen wrote: > "marcel" made

Problem with ActiveRecord, create, save, and Oracle adapter?
Hi all, Ruby 1.8.4 Rails 1.1 OCI8 0.1.14 I think I''m hitting an issue with ActiveRecord::Base#save and the Oracle adapter. Line 158 in the schedules_controller.rb file is simply: 158: if @schedule.save 159: flash[:notice] = ''Schedule was successfully created.'' 160: redirect_to :action => ''list'' 161: else 162: render :action =>

ActiveRecord: Oracle metadata loading slow on large database
All, While attempting to use ActiveRecord against a large database, approx. 1700 tables and 4 million rows, I discovered an inefficiency in oci_adapter.rb. The problem seems to be the SQL being generated to lazy-load the columns metadata. "def columns(table_name, name = nil)" method generates the following SQL: select column_name, data_type, data_default, nullable,

"ORA-12154: TNS:..." error after successful oracle connection
Hi, After a few days of struggling, I was able to run this command successfully. ruby -r oci8 -e "OCI8.new(''xxx_dba'', ''xxx'', ''//xxxx:1521/ xxxxx.xxx.org'').exec(''SELECT 1 from dual'') {|r| puts r.join}" I got "1.0" as output and I got my prompt back. So, I went back to the RoR app that I am working on,

Returning Count from find_by_sql
I want to return an int from a find_by_sql call. But when I use that result to compare to another count the error tells me I have an array. MODEL: # Returns the number of comments in a specified post def self.find_count(post_id) find_by_sql(["SELECT COUNT(*) FROM commments WHERE post_id = ?", post_id]) end CONTROLLER: def test @post =

datatype problem when using ActiveRecord with Oracle
Hey, I have connected to the oracle db using ActiveRecord and am trying to retrieve tuples. I have one attribute that has datatype ''number(1)''. I found that ActiveRecord maps this attribute to boolean. So it gets a class of either FalseClass or TrueClass. I tried to find the source of the problem and I found oracle_adapter.rb (http://

Using MTOOLS in place of loopback mounting
I am trying to build a distribution without having to be root. The SYSLINUX installer typically needs root to do loopback mounting, but if you have MTOOLS, you can use that instead. This seems to work so far: #!/bin/sh # A minimal replacement for /usr/bin/syslinux; assumes that ldlinux.sys # and ldlinux.bss are available in the current directory. You must # specify locations of mkdosfs and

RoR + oracle + bind vars
Hi, I have a question about bundle: RoR + oracle + bind variables. Heaving read forums/blogs/etc I found out RoR does not use bind vars for oracle particularly (and for all adapters in general). Then I found Michael''s patch (http://dev.rubyonrails.org/attachment/ticket/5199/oracle_bind.patch) but it was not added to the following RoR versions (since the end of May). As I suppose it was

ActiveResource
I''ve been sitting on an ActiveResource patch for a few weeks, waiting to get some feedback from David. But, I see other folks like Jeremy are starting to use it, so I committed my patch: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/changeset/4890 It gets all the basic operations in working order, and adds support for prefixes. I wasn''t quite sure how to pull this off. Right now, I''m

Float -> BigDecimal
So, I''m personally cool with this change (patch from #5454, applied in [4596]), and I''ll make it work for Oracle tomorrow. But just wondering if folks considered the performance impact of the change? From a simple test it seems that BigDecimal math is about twice as slow as using Floats.

Security issues with SYSLINUX 2.01
I have just received some audit info on the SYSLINUX 2.01 installer running setuid. There seems to be some issues, and although I can fix them easily enough I'm somewhat questioning the whole approach. The other alternative would be to make the syslinux installer a wrapper around mtools, and use mtools for the filesystem access. Since this would be done entirely in userspace, as a normal

New user problem
Peter, I'm a new user of Linux trying to use the SYSLINUX boot loader to create a Linux system. I'm doing it on a PC with WIN98 installed, and I prefer using a dual boot system. I got through as far as creating a semi-bootable floppy. The problem I'm getting states "could not find kernel image: Linux." However, I do get the "boot:" prompt as well (I just
