[prototype] Selector class fails on selector strings with spaces
I just ran across this bug when trying to re-create Ben Nolan''s behaviour.js
with prototype and was wondering if anyone had fixed it before I went
re-inventing the wheel :)
Thanks!

RE: Re: form elements in sortable lists
I never got it to work back on one of the early release candidates of
scriptaculous 1.5. However, I thought I read in one of the release
notes that it was fixed. Are you using the latest version? I ended up
just disabling the sortable while they were in ''editing'' mode, and then
recreating it after they were done editing.

Cross-Browser History management
Hi !
Is it plan to release a Browser History Management in Scriptaculous ?
Or does anybody know a "prototype" library to manage browser history
compatible with IE6, IE7 and FF ?
We tried to use Really Simple History:
http://code.google.com/p/reallysimplehistory/
But it seems to be incompatible with some Prototype event management.

Modal Window Stealing Elements from Form. Need Elegant Solution.
I''m using Prototype.js with Control.modal to create a modal window on
my IPB Forum which takes all the various topic posting/replying/
editing options and places them into a Modal window.
The inherent nature of this action is to take the contents of whatever
DIV I told Control.Modal to make a modal window out of and place the
entire innerHTML of that DIV into a separate DIV outside the

Attaching event observers to a series of elements - best practice?
Hi all,
New member here. I''ve been working with Prototype for a while, and I
love it. However, there''s one thing I still can''t figure out.
Let''s say I have an array of objects, representing contacts in an
address book:
var contacts = [
{ id: 1, firstName: "Bob", lastName: "Smith" },
{ id: 2, firstName: "Sue", lastName:

img element inside div not accessible with $$() or getElementsBySelector
I can''t access an img inside a div using the $$() syntax. Using
getElementsBySelector doesn''t work either. Both return empty arrays. I
can access it with getElementById, however.
<div id="foo">
<img id="image" src="blah.jpg">
<div id="bar"
</div>
- Using $$(''#foo img'') returns an empty array

Ajax - Inserting selected elements from request.responseText
After retrieving a URL using an Ajax.Request...
function onComplete (request, json) {
// request.responseText holds the entire page
Only the content contained in elementID = ''source'' is intended for display
At this time, the following code works, but it disturbingly copies the
entire page from the source URL into the target DIV

Problems with Element.extend() on responseXML elements with IE
I have the following code in the "onSuccess" function of an
Ajax.Request() call. The content type of the response message is "text/
xml".
function interactionSuccess(request) {
var root = $(request.responseXML.documentElement);
...
So more or less I extend the root element of my XML response.
This call triggers the onException callback. The exception is a

Speeding up Prototype''s $$ Selector
Just a quick heads up that Sylvain Zimmer has posted a performance
upgrade for Prototype''s $$ selector, making the function up to 20 times
faster.
This could be just the thing I''ve been looking for recently as a site
I''m currently developing makes heavy usage of that $$ selector and I
have noticed that this can lead to a noticeable lag on page load.

Problem replacing form element with another form
Having a strange problem with replacing a form with another form. If I
do this
Element.replace("some_form_id", "<form>dummy text</form>") where
"some_form_if" is the id of a form element only the text between the
form tags is inserted, not the form tags. Tend to think I must be
doing something dumb, as can''t find any discussions on this anywhere.

Form.Element.select
Hi there,
is there any way to select part of an input element, not the whole of it,
keeping the cursor at the start of the selection?
As far as i can remember, about a year ago i saw a working page using this
feature, but i cannot find it now...
I hope someone can help me to find an answer to my question.

Prototype 1.6: Selector.matchElements Issue?
I haven''t been able to find any discussion about this. It looks as if
Selector.matchElements is broken (which means that
Selector.findElement, Element.down(elt, cssselector) dont work
properly.
What I''m seeing is that (line 3310) the Selector.findElements is not
called with the root node of the node you are wishing to find elements
under (its not called with a parameter at all)

comparing ajax.updater div in js
This is really bugging me no matter what I''m trying.
In javascript, I''m using the ajax.updater, and it (obviously) writes
back out to a div. I want to then compare what was echoed out into
this div (which came from the php file I listed in ajax.updater) with
a string.
test should equal "SomeString" because that is what is being echoed

transportXML returns null?
Hi,
I want to load an XHTML file into DOM. I issue Ajax.Request and on
success do:
var response=transport.responseXML
Response is null. On the other hand:
var response=transport.responseText; // has the data.
Why is response=transport.responseXML returns null?
Here is the code:
function display() {
url = "http://" + location.hostname + port + "/fusion/
