Easiest way to create a google map mashup?
I wanted to add a mash up to my website and was wondering if there were
any recommendations? I saw that there is a cartographer plugin
(http://cartographer.rubyforge.org/) and also something else called YM4R
(http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/YM4R).
I have no idea if they are up to date or not or whether this is
currently the easiest/best way to go about it short of rolling your own.

Google maps
Anyone know an up-to-date gem for Rails 3 to connect and display
markers on google maps? It seems the gem YM4R hasn''t been updated for
a while now... Most of the articles I find on Google are a bit
outdated as well.
Should I just stick with native Google Map API for this?

Panel Slider (like on maps.google.com)
Hi,
I want to create a panel slider like shown on maps.google.com (click
the little triangle on the left side of the map (in the vertical-
middle)).
I tried several scriptaculous treasure chest thingies .. but they
didn''t work. Does anyone know of a way to do this?
Thanks, Joost

302 redirects
Hi,
Trying to use Ajax.Updater to update a screen element. Works well,
except in one place where I want to use a 302 Redirect page. This
works absolutely fine in the Browser, and takes me to the page I want
to see. However, when calling using Ajax Updater, I get a message
like this:
This document you requested has moved temporarily.
It''s now at http://....
The on302 event fires,

Script.aculo.us effect queues & Ajax.Updater()
Hey guys,
I''m new here and just checked out Prototype with Script.aculo.us and
have to say it''s a great experience once you get the concept. However,
I''m not very experienced with JS so I''m a bit stuck on something I
think is quite easy to solve:
What already works:
A searchfield is observed by a DelayedObserver, a list of contacts is
updated vie Ajax updater.

getElementsBySelector problem in IE
I''m having this problem with IE and getElementsBySelector, but am a
relative js novice, so quite possible -- likely even -- that I''m doing
something stupid. Either way, a fresh pair of eyes would help.
Basically I''m duplicating a fieldset within a form (so you can upload
more than one photo). [BTW, the fieldsets have a CSS id which relates
to the object id of the

Ajax.Updater -- returning failure from a php script
If I give Ajax.Updater a first arg like{ success: ''replies'', failure:
''errors''}, how do I return an error from a php script so the message
goes in ''errors'' rather than ''replies''?

Prototype 1.6 and Lowpro 0.5
If you''re using Lowpro 0.5 from the trunk, you''ll need to append this
to fix the broken Event.onReady method:
Object.extend(Event, {
onReady : function(f) {
document.observe(''dom:loaded'', f);
}
});
Basically "contentloaded" changed to "dom:loaded" between rc0 and rc1.
Just spent all morning working this out, hopefully it will save

Now I am dragging and dropping - how do I add things up?
Not the best at javascript/ajax/making coffee as google has been my
teacher, but I am constructing a ''wedding calculator''
http://www.blakelands.co.uk/Cart
to calculate a price based on the items dragged into the ''shopping
cart''.
How would I assign numeric values to these products (without the use
of mysql) and have it dynamically adding up in the last box?

immediate Descendants not working in IE
Hi, im currently styling a menu using a java script effect which hides
the nested submenus on load, and also shows/hides them on mouseover.
It is working in firefox, using ...
var ul = $("nav").getElementsByTagName("ul")[0];
var lis = ul.immediateDescendants();
I then loop through lis to initially hide all the submenus. This works
fine in firefox, but not in IE. The sub

Ajax.Request: onFailure vs. onException
Hello All,
I''m trying to capture the exception message that my server application
is providing in response to my Ajax.Request. However, I''m confused as
to when onFailure is fired vs. onException. The onException handler has
access to the javascript exception object and I''d understood that it was
only called when the dispatch fails. Not sure what exactly that means
