Using RJS to call custom JavaScript class/method
The announcement for RoR 1.1 shows some nice examples of RJS calls. In
particular I am interested in this one:
# Call the custom JavaScript class/method AddressBook.cancel()
page.address_book.cancel
In trying to develop a "lightbox" style modal form, I have been
successful in saving the form data via AJAX but I can''t seem to close

Simulating onmouseleave and onmouseenter with Prototype
Hello.
I spent an hour or three chasing down a desired effect that mootools
implements, namely the simulation of onmouseleave and onmouseenter
events.
Why?
Lets say you have a Menu. A ul element that contains many li elements.
If you want to have a function (maybe an effect) fire when the mouse
moves outside of the ul, you are out of luck. Observe the mouseout
function like so:

SV: Re: script.aculo.us question
Another option would be to use conditional comments, which is only supported in IE. Either in the javascript:
/*@cc_on @*/
/*@if (@_win32)
Event.observe(window, ''load'', ...(replace img)...);
/*@end @*/
Or in the HTML for including the script (this support checking versions):
<!-[if lt IE 7]>...include script...<![endif]-->

getElementsBySelector problem in IE
I''m having this problem with IE and getElementsBySelector, but am a
relative js novice, so quite possible -- likely even -- that I''m doing
something stupid. Either way, a fresh pair of eyes would help.
Basically I''m duplicating a fieldset within a form (so you can upload
more than one photo). [BTW, the fieldsets have a CSS id which relates
to the object id of the

AJAX Exception just started with Safari and Firefox on OS X, no problem on other machines
Hello all,
I have been developing some ajax stuff all week. Just this morning
the ajax calls quit working in Safari, and Firefox. I backed out to a
last known working state and they still were not working, so I added
some handlers to see if I could sniff out the problem.

RE: help with syntax
I guess the first step is reading up on OOP in javascript...

http://www.codeproject.com/aspnet/JsOOP1.asp
Then, check out the definitive prototype.js guide...

hoverclass on droppable zone
Hi guys,
I''m trying to make a drag''n''drop portal using sortable element. I
would like to apply the "hoverclass" option only on the droppable zone
instead of the column border.
Any idea a about the solution?
Thanks for any help,
Sabri

img element inside div not accessible with $$() or getElementsBySelector
I can''t access an img inside a div using the $$() syntax. Using
getElementsBySelector doesn''t work either. Both return empty arrays. I
can access it with getElementById, however.
<div id="foo">
<img id="image" src="blah.jpg">
<div id="bar"
</div>
- Using $$(''#foo img'') returns an empty array

appendChild crashes ie6 onload (urget)
Has anyone encountered this problem before?
A function which is attached to the window''s onLoad with Event.observe
crashes ie6 ONLY when appendChild is called.
I have confirmed it across multiple computers. Even weirder, the function in
question is a well tested script commonly used.

Rich Text Editor
I know I saw something a while back about a simple Rich Text Editor; did
that go anywhere? I''d love to see something as simple as the one google uses

Prototype API Docs inconsistency
Hi,
If you follow those two links (watch the case difference) :
- http://www.prototypejs.org/api/element/getElementsBySelector
- http://www.prototypejs.org/api/element/getelementsbyselector
You''ll see that the first one does not indicate the 1.6 deprecation
even though it is the same method.
I guess those docs where generated, so the problem might exists
elsewhere in the docs.
Thanks

getElementsBySelector broken in IE
Hi all:
getElementsBySelector appears to be broken in 1.5 final on IE.
getElementsBySelector works as expected in FF 1.5 final and also it
works correctly in IE in 1.5 RC2.
Here''s my simple code fragment:
var els = element.getElementsBySelector(''[recnum]'');
The variable els is undefined in 1.5 final on IE.

prototype addClassName, toggleClassName
I have a question about prototype''s addClassName, removeClassName, and
toggleClassName. As expected, these functions add or remove a class
name from an element. When adding, the class names are appended to
the end of the class list of the element. Could this affect the
rendering of the element? Does the order of css class names in the
element''s class attribute matter?

Using Effect.Move() while maintaining the elements DOM order
Hi there,
is it possible to maintain the elements order in DOM when using
Effect.Move()? Currently the Move effect will
change the element position (using top and left style attrs), this
works quite well too, but what I''d like is
to change the elements position as well.
Consider the following example:
html:

Sortable with sortables? this.destroy not a function O_o
Hi all
I am creating sortable list with the builder. Now i want these sortables to
be a sortable aswell. So i wrap a div around them and run sortable create on
the main-container.
I have it like so (simplified):
var myLists = new Array(); // start a empty array for push
var mainDiv = ''main''; // some already present div to carry all stuff.
function newList() {

Element extending problem
Okay, I posted about this a few days ago but couldn''t replicate it in my
test case.
I have this page, which everything works fine on... except some of the
prototype methods.
They do not appear to exist on an extended Element.
ie:
Element._extended = true
Element.up = undefined
Element.addClassName = function
Element.getElementsBySelector = undefined

Lightbox and RJS
Hi,
I am trying to include lightbox functionality in my app, but there is
a slight complication. Apparently lightbox initializes all the links
to lightbox events on page load. However, in my case, some new links
to lightbox events will be rendered to the page through ajax events
(obviously this means after the page loads). So I figure I need to
find a way to call lightbox''s
