inheriting static/class methods with new prototype.js class creation
Hey all.
I want something like this to work:
var Foo = Class.create();
Foo.myStaticMethod = function(){alert("I''m a static method!")};
Foo.myStaticMethod(); // works
var f = new Foo();
f.myStaticMethod(); // doesn''t work, but that''s good--I don''t want it
to
var Bar = Class.create(Foo);
Bar.myStaticMethod(); // doesn''t work, undefined :(

Should Event.stopObserving() remove itself from cache?
Just wondering why Event.stopObserving() doesn''t remove the itself from
the Event.obervers array?
Is there a reason for this?

R-beta: S Compatibility (again)
While I think total compatibility is not possible or even very
important I have become aware recently of some fairly low level
incompatibilities that have rather serious consequences for
interchange between systems. Some of these are possibly well
known, but I put them on on record here just in case. (I do not
expect any action on these, of course, but people may want to
note them, and correct

Shorewall, TPROXY, Transparent Squid and Multiples ISP
Hello,
I wonder if someone could use the TPROXY with Shorewall and
transparent Squid with using the routing rules on shorewall
(tcrules) for hosts / networks (LAN) with multiples providers (WANs)
directly from the internal network on port 80 (with TPROXY
transparent squid or REDIRECT).
On this issue, the routing rules is not work propertly because the

Dear S-PLUS/R users:
Do you know any default function or a user contributed function that
can draw an ellipse with given axes and origin? Thanks for any help.

A new JavaScript Framework based on Prototype and Scriptaculous : Archetype
After several months of development, we are proud to announce you the
first public release of Archetype JavaScript Framework (License MIT,
version 0.1)!
Archetype is a JavaScript framework. It''s not a simple toolkit, but a
real framework which affects the way you code in JavaScript. Made on
top of excellent libraries as Prototype and Scriptaculous, it aims to
ease development of real

AJAX call chain and DRY questions
Hey
I have a page with a drop list. When the user selects an option in the
drop I call an action in the controller with ajax. Now, in the
controller, I gather some data from the db, but how do I present these
data in a nice way? I really need to make use of the html helpers, but
these clearly are not available in the controller. How do I output the
array that I have gathered?

Way to interpolate a variable sent to $()
Hello all,
I''m new to prototype and javascript isn''t my strong point. I''m trying
to get a simple test script to work, which is turning out to be a
little harder than I thought. I have a bunch of fields that I need to
be able to switch on and off using one of a few hashes. In the example
below I''m trying to get one to work.
The problem occurs when I try to

non-bubbling mouseover/mouseout
First, I have only played with Prototype for about a month, so I don''t
know it well. Second, I am more of a server-side programmer than a
client-side programmer.
In my page, I have a div that appears as a result of a link mouseover
event. This div is nested within another div that houses everything
(id = ''menuContainer''). I want the resulting div (which is a submenu)

If form changed ask if you really want to exit page...
First things first: Hi all! I''ve been sucked into prototype and
script.aculo.us develpment thanks (because of?) the Symfony PHP
framework...
I''d like to implement a feature on some admin pages, but I can''t seem
to find the right search term to google it; I want to ask the user to
confirm exit of a page, if she has changed anything on the forms
displayed on it.

obtaining table cell text data
I''m writing some code to subset a table based on the contents of
particular columns. My event handler starts off like this:
subsetChange: function(e) {
var subset = $F(''subsetSelector'');
var rows = $$(''.content-row'');
rows.each(function(row) {
var value = row.down(''.Platform_Category'').childNodes[0].data;

Prototype Safari onSubmit Issues
Hi folks. Another Prototype question.
I have a simple ajax form which I want to return results on an
onChange. Works in IE6 (Win) and FF, but Safari doesn''t seem to take
the onChange too well. Upon the return key, it blanks out the form.
Upon tabbing to the next field (actually the next form), I get the
results.

Object Property Sorting - Hash?
I''m trying to sort an object by its property names. As I understand it,
iterating over an object using for...in or using Hash.each() (or
Hash.sortBy()) does not guarantee the order of the properties.
Is there an easy and low-overhead way to guarantee order? Or would I
need to have some type of collection object that uses arrays instead of
the property-value configuration that Hash
