Winbind dies
Serious apologies if this has been discussed before, but my search
didn't turn up much:
I have samba (kept up-to-date with latest) running on several CentOS 3
and 4 boxes as part of a Win2k3 domain. On one particular box,
winbind dies on a regular basis (all the other installations run
flawlessly). A quick restart, and we're good again. However, as
this is a very active server

Extended acls with AD - problem with default/herited permissions
Hello,
I set a share on a samba 4.7.1 as domain member with an Active Directory
controler, this share is used by all domain users.
All users from the AD domain have a primary group "Domain Users", and
secondary groups to filter access on the folders of the share.
I noticed that when a user create a sub-folder/file inside a "Top
folder", the default permissions from the

LDAP Domain Trust
I have a small problem. I'm an LDAP newbie, and am having trouble getting
Samba to authenticate. What I have is an LDAP tree, with the samba.schema
loaded in out LDAP configuration. I already tested smb.conf without
ldap-sam compiled in, and it authenticates just fine to smbpasswd and
locally added machine trust accounts.
Submitted for your assistance:

Fwd: Extended acls with AD - problem with default/herited permissions
Edouard,
These are the 4 available parameters containing the word "inherit".
inherit acls (S)
inherit owner (S)
inherit permissions (S)
map acl inherit (S)
Would "inherit acls" work for you?

Samba4 does't run netlogon scripts and batch files
I've tried to move from Samba 3.6.14 to Samba 4.0.5. Process went smooth, Win8Pro clients joined domain successfully.
But now netlogon startup scripts does not run on clients at signin. Also .bat batch files from network shares does not executes (Win8 says do not have permissions) without execute bit set.
This is the right behavior? How to get back previous?
If I return 3.6.14 version

Some questions about deliver
While investigating Dovecot's deliver with Postfix, I encountered some
behaviors making me wonder whether I really understand the purpose of
that binary. So, if you allow...
This is from Postfix' main.cf:
mailbox_command = /usr/local/dovecot/libexec/dovecot/deliver -e -n
This is my quick setup for Dovecot:
# 1.2.rc4: /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf
# OS: Darwin 9.7.0

Fwd: Re: Fwd: Extended acls with AD - problem with default/herited permissions
Hello Dale,
Set inherit acls = yes locally to my share groups, and remove map acl
inherit = yes from global parameters of smb.conf does not solve my issue.
I still have acl "Domain Users" added to new folders/files.
As i write in my previous email, the only way i found to disable acl
"Domain Users" to be added was with :
inherit owner = yes
With some disavantages for users

Compile gnutls yo install samba-4.12.3
Hello all;
Has anyone installed samba4 from sources (samba-4.12.3.tar.gz) on CentOS 7?
I explain the problem: to install samba-4.12.3 you need to install a version equal to or greater than 3.4.7 of gnutls; this (gnutls) depends on nettle and gmp.
I am trying to install gnutls-3.6.14; I already have gmp (gmp-6.2.0) and nettle (nettle-3.6) installed (compiled from sources), but gnutls

Classic Upgrade changes domain SID
Dear samba experts,
I did a classic upgrade from a Samba 3.6.14 samba NT4 DC to a
Samba 4.18.2 AD-DC. It does not work and I just want to make sure
that I have the correct understanding of our domain SID.
On our old Samba server net getdomainsid shows:
SID for local machine SERV00 is: S-1-5-21-1415314133-2460755331-2761616138
SID for domain NAV is: S-1-5-21-1415314133-2460755331-2761616138

help with zoo
Hi,
I am interested in decomposing a time series and getting the trend, seasonal and?irregular variations, as one can get with the "stl" command. My time series is fairly regular, but it has some breaks. From the zoo manual, I gather that it should be possible to convert it to a regular time series and then fill the NA entries by interpolation. I am not able to proceed beyond a certain

ADS mapping not working after patching
Hi,
Ive just patched Solaris 10 which has for some reason broken the samba config
The csw version of samba is being used (not sure if that will make any difference) but after the patching the version changed (details below) and now no-one can map their userid.
Basically, when someone tries to map through Windows explorer they get prompted for a userid/password. After entering the Unix credentials

Roamin Profile problem / filedate issue
Guys,
I've identified a problem "I think"
Config:
Samba 2.2.8a on Linux and Solaris
WinXP SP1 and Win2kSP4 workstations
We have a problem here, when logging out and using roaming profiles
on a samba host take significantly longer than logging out when the
profile is stored on a Win2k server.
Looking closely I've discovered the following.
On each logout, numerous files, that

File time / date issues with Samba 2.08
Guys,
we have been tracking down a problem with slow saving of profiles on logout.
Environment:
A number of Linux front end servers running Samba 2.08, nfs mounting

WinXP/2k users use shares from the linux boxes which nfs mount the share
from the sun box.
Problem:
On logout the time taken to logout is extremely long.
Issue:
On closer examination, we have noticed
