FlashMX creates BAD .swf file on Samba
Hi peoples, I have a Samba Server that has had the same config for over 10 months now (read: never had a problem). Just today, I thought, let's Play with Flash MX, so download I did. Start playing around, and went to test my first movie and it came up blank. Not a flash GURU that I am, I was stumped. Anyway. Saved the flash file to my local C:\ (Oh did I mention the WS is Win2k ;) .. and

# of users of R, and biological examples of the use of R
Dear All, With a colleague we are writing a paper where we show how R is a very nice tool to deal with some issues in the analyses of data in evolutionary biology. For the intro, I wonder if 1) Anybody has any rough idea of how many people might be using R or how many people have downloaded R, or similar (I am aware answering this question might require divinatory powers...). 2) Have/are any

colors for background and plotting area
Dear all, I am trying to prepare some figures where I'd like the color of the plot region (i.e., the area bounded by the axes) to be different from the margin area (i.e., the area of the figure not within the axes region). I can use "bg" but that changes the background of everything? How can I accomplish what I want? Thanks, Ramon -- Ramón Díaz-Uriarte Triana 47 28016 Madrid

bzlib, pcre and zlib still needed in rules?
Dear All, I just apt-get source r-base-core and noticed that file "rules" under ./r-base-3.2.4-revised/debian contains (lines 277 to 279) --with-system-bzlib \ --with-system-pcre \ --with-system-zlib \ I wonder if these are still necessary and, in fact, when building R alpha (specifically, R-alpha_2016-03-21_r70361.tar.gz) I get a warning saying that those options are not

using zlib (was compress data on read, decompress on write)
Dear All, I think I am confused about how I'd be able to use zlib starting with R 2.7.0. I just downloaded the latest development version, built it, etc, but I am not able to find the zlib.h that, I believe, R should place somewhere under "where/you/want/R/to/go" (from --prefix=/where/you/want/R/to/go). There seem to be entry points for zlib in the binary (e.g., grep -r gzopen ./

Hi we run dovecot on sun solaris 9. I try to switch from dovecot 0.99.11 to dovecot 1.0, with ssl support turned on. The user's mail are stored in mbox format in Mail in their home dirs. I was not able to get the subscrition working properly with the new dovecot. validate root locally with winbind
I have set up winbind successfully, but every time I need to perform any task as root, winbind tries to login via the domain server, which gives an "incorrect password" error. Is there a way to set things up so that the root user is only checked against the local passwd/shadow files? -- Ramon Casha Malta Linux User Group (http://linux.org.mt)

[LLVMdev] Proposal for a Google summer of code project for the Java frontend.
As I told you, I am working with the Java frontend. Currently I am working with the code from http://llvm.org/svn/llvm-project/java/. The first task has been to put it up to date, since it was written for LLVM 1.9 and there are few incompatibilities. This is mostly done. How can I submit a patch? I am interested to get this work funded by a Google summer of code grant. Is there anyone interested

Confidence intervals plot
Hi all!! I am trying to plot several confidence intervals in a unique plot. That is, for each x, I have a confidence interval for a parameter related to x and I would like to plot them in the same plot, in order to compare them. The plot would look like some parallel vertical lines, each one corresponding to a x value. Their extrem points would be the confidence interval limits. I do not know if

make check fails with default libblas

The same thing happens with the current R patched. I've google around and cannot find

Is there a model like that in R?
Hi to everyone, I am starting to work with a model that is not familiar to me. The model would be like that: y = . - a*max(Q(i) - Q(0), 0) + . where Q(i) is the accumulated effect of a variable at time i and Q(0) a threshold above it there is effect on y. The value of Q(i) could be estimated as: Q(i+1) = Q(i) + b*max(s(i) - s(0), 0) + c*min(s(i) - s(0), 0) + . Where s

[LLVMdev] Introducing myself, and Java project.
Hello, I am Ramon Garcia Fernandez. My interest in LLVM is to develop an interface for Java virtual machine bytecodes, so that Java programs can be run under LLVM. You may ask why not using the Java virtual machine. Although it may be improved, there are some misfeatures in it. This is what I have learned. It makes the communication with native code too expensive. Passing an array from native to
