Newbie-needs help
Hello all:
I''ve read the documentation and am not quite sure where to start.
What I''m trying to do is build a network with a 3 NIC Shorewall router.
My system is behind a routed /49 network.
I''d like to use 2 or 3 of the static IP addresses for my DMZ ( DNS server, mail, webserver etc ) and
then have my remaining machines in a private network NATed is some way.

I tried calling their toll free number and toll number last week in the

as to why the phone numbers were not working.
I just called the number now and it is working.
Being around the internet for a quite a long time this gives me an uneasy

Seeking Volunteers for an Intro to Asterisk Course
Our company, Signate, is going to be offering a three day introductory
Asterisk training course, the first of a series.
The first class will be in San Francisco the week of June 28. It will be a
beta test to get the kinks out and we will not charge for the class or the
materials. Anyone who attends is responsible for their own travel and
lodging, if necessary.

Did anyone use apt-get install zaptel successfully?
After apt-get instal zaptel, use "modprobe zaptel",

xyplots with differentiated first data points
Hi,
I'm trying to plot a series of lines without data point markers, except
for the first data point in each line, which I want to also mark with an
open circle.
The following code accomplishes this for a single line:
xyplot(yy ~ xx,
panel=function(x, y){
panel.xyplot(x, y, col="black",type="l")
panel.xyplot(x[1], y[1],

Cluster Analysis - Number of Clusters
Hello,
I'm playing around with cluster analysis, and am looking for methods to
select the number of clusters. I am aware of methods based on a 'pseudo
F' or a 'pseudo T^2'. Are there packages in R that will generate these
statistics, and/or other statistics to aid in cluster number selection?
Thanks,
John.

Confidence interval on parameters from optim function
Hi everyone,
I have two questions:
I would like to get confidence intervals on the coefficients derived
from the optim() function.
I apply optim() to a given function f
> res <-
optim(c(0.08,0.04,1.),f,NULL,method="L-BFGS-B",lower=c(0.,0.,0.))
And I would like to get the p-value and confidence intervals associated

Homogenous groups building - Randomisation
Dear R-users,
We expect to form N homogeneous groups of n features from an
experimentation including N*n data.
The aim is to prevent group effects.
How to do that with R functionalitites ? Does anyone know any way enabling
this ?
Example :
100 patients are observed. 3 biochemical parameters are mesured for each
one (Red and white globules ans glycemia).

Rscript not returning zero
Hi
I'm trying to run a R script in a computer grid using the Rscript
interpreter, but the Rscript is not returning zero (even when the
scripts processes succesfully) on its exit which causes the scheduler
to detect an error and not records the output.
Is there any way to get the Rscript returning zero ?

Port Forwarding
Is ''port forwarding'' a relatively new thing with packet filtering? Or has
it always been available since iptables appeared on the scene.

My system is a Dell laptop running Win XP Pro with SP2 and all current
updates. R is version 2.2.1, Rcmdr is version 1.1-6 (also happens with 1.1-5).
First attempt to import data from text file (in Rcmdr) works correctly with
no errors or warnings. Second, third or fourth attempt to load same data or
a similar dataset will cause all R windows, including Rcmdr and R console

Problem with names() in a plot after ordering a data.frame. Syntax or stupidity?
I am a complete newbie in R .
Using R 2.2.0 Windows XP
This started as a simple exercise to see if I could
produce a simple
Cleveland style dotchart with a line from the '2' axis
to the dot rather
than a continuous line as do "dotchart" and
"dotchart2". At least I could not
find that option.
I got a crude program to work but it includes
unnecessary steps.
