xen_emul_unplug on xen 4.1, HVM guest 2.6.38
I am running Xen 4 and want users to be able to install arbitrary HVM images. We want both PV and emulated drivers to appear. The reason for this is for compatibility with images that were prepared for Xen 3.3, which assume emulated devices exist at boot time (particularly for running the boot loader). If I do not specify on the boot line xen_emul_unplug=never, then under some guest OS''s

[RFC PATCH v01] Xen PVSCSI drivers for pvops xen/stable-2.6.32.x kernel
Hello, http://pasik.reaktio.net/xen/patches/xen-pvscsi-drivers-linux-2.6.32.27-pvops-v01.diff This is the first version of Xen PVSCSI drivers, both the scsiback backend and scsifront frontend, ported from Novell SLES11SP1 2.6.32 Xenlinux kernel to pvops xen/stable-2.6.32.x branch. At the moment it''s *only* compile-tested with the latest xen/stable-2.6.32.x git kernel as of today

cpu leveling on opensource xen on sles
We currently run xen on sles11sp1 and sles11sp2. Our hardware is HP Compaq DL360''s. We originally started with G6''s, but now we''ve grown and have G7''s and G8''s in the mix. We don''t do a lot of live migrations but is convenient to be able to at times. Is there any type of cpu leveling that can be done so live migrations will work with servers

Will Xen 4.3 use upstream QEMU by default ?
Hi folks, From the roadmap for Xen 4.3 development, Xen 4.3 will use upstream QEMU (partially done). So I''d like to confirm the following questions. 1. Will Xen 4.3 really use upstream QEMU by default ? I have the question because so far the xen.git tree still uses qemu-xen-unstable by default. 2. If ''yes'' for 1st question, which QEMU upstream will be used in Xen

Debian Repository
Hi, Im trying to install Netware and Windows 2008 server but im having problems with it reading the ISO. Im guessing this is because im running version 3.2.1 debian packages so i want to upgrade to unstable and use the 3.4 deb packages. My problem is that there isn''t a kernel package so when booting you cant boot into xenified kernel mode. If i try and use a kernel from the

How to load backend drivers in 4.2
The xencommons runlevel script has a few modprobe calls to load drivers for dom0. Recently also the backend drivers for vbd and vif were added. Unfortunately without an explanation why that is (suddenly) needed. Now that I have been hitting such missing backend driver issue as well with a xenlinux based dom0 kernel I wonder how to handle the situation. The pvops kernel has 3 backend drivers

Xen3.3 rpm for 32Bit?
Hi folks, I would like to test Xen3.3 on CentOS 5.5 on an older machine which is not 64bit capable. Since this is just a "first impression" test I do not want to fuzz with compiling the kernels and tools myself (that comes in a later step). Can someone please point me to a repo with 32bit Xen3.3 kernels for CentOS 5? GITCO supplies 64bit kernels only, and googling brought up

rebased openSUSE Xen dom0 Patches
I''ve uploaded updated 2.6.31 and 2.6.32 rebased openSUSE Xen dom0 patches and ebuilds to http://code.google.com/p/gentoo-xen-kernel/downloads/list Notable change is that both include the online resize feature recently posted to xen-devel. [PATCH] xen/gntdev: do not set VM_PFNMAP
Since when we are using the m2p_override it is not true anymore that the mmap''ed area doesn''t have corresponsing struct pages. Removing the VM_PFNMAP flag makes get_user_pages work on the mmap''ed user vma. An example test case would be using a Xen userspace block backend (QDISK) on a file on NFS using O_DIRECT. The patch should be backported back to 2.6.38.

More issues with xl on 4.1.0-rc
I have spotted another couple of bugs when testing with xl on 4.1.0-rc and a xen/next-2.6.38 based kernel. If I use pygrub as a boot loader and run xl create -c host then the console disconnects once pygrub is finished. I can reconnect to the console session but it is a bit annoying to have to do so. If I set vfb = [ ''sdl'' ] in the configuration file, then I can type in the

upstream merge status for 2.6.38?
Hi, I see a round of bug fixes and well as xenbus were pulled upstream. Is anything else going into .38? -- 2. That which causes joy or happiness. _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-devel

Balloon driver for Linux/HVM
Hi, I have noticed that, in the code of linux/drivers/xen/balloon.c, there exists the snippet as this: static int __init balloon_init(void) { unsigned long pfn; struct page *page; if (!xen_pv_domain()) return -ENODEV; ..... } Does it means the driver will not work in HVM? If so, where is the HVN-enabled code for that? 2010-11-16 Rui Chu _______________________________________________

Windows license on Xen 3.3
Hi all, I would like to run 10 x Windows 2003 server(enterprise edition) guests VM on top of my Xen3.3 box. Each guest vm need 5 terminal service connections. I am not sure how to buy the guest license. I think 2 possible ways, can anyone give some idea to me: 1. buy 10 x Enterprise edition license and buy 5 TS CAL to each window license 2. buy 1 x datacenter edition license

HVM guests and pvlocks not working as expected
After much joy with this, I thought I post this to a bigger audience. After having migrated to Xen 4.1.1, booting HVM guests had several issues. Some related to interrupts not being set up correctly (which Stefano has posted patches) and even with those 3.0 guests seem to hang for me while 2.6.38 or older kernels were ok. After digging deeply into this, I think I found the issue. However, if that

Phone meeting about kernel virtualization hooks
I would like to host a phone meeting to discuss the plans for the xen sub-architecture of x86. Hopefully Chris can share his vision and we can agree on some next steps to getting this done and into the mainline kernel. From my understanding, it would be good if the "To" list could make it. If anyone believes others should attend, please let them know. Please let me know if you are
