DVD Burner
I've purchased an LG DVD Burner (GSA-E60L) External super Multi DVD Rewiter
for my PE2950 Dell Server attached via USB.
Can someone guide me to set up the DVD with Linux, and which tools should I
use to burn DVD?

Geany plugins out of sync
I'm intending to do some version control, hence looking for some

DVD burner in WINE
I have a program, ProShow Producer, that works flawlessly in WINE, but I need to use a DVD burner in it. The program will only export the DVD slideshows to a disc, not an image, so I need to be able to use the burner or somehow fake it and save to an image. Does anyone know how I can either get the burner working or (ideally) fake the burner and create an image instead??
Thanks so much for the

Gnome CD/DVD Burner?
Hi all,
Wondering if this might be a good item for either CentOSPlus or even
Extras repository.
I've been looking for a decent CD/DVD burner for Gnome.... at present
I load up k3b (KDE app) and thus much of the KDE environment).
Someone pointed me to GraveMan (http://www.nongnu.org/graveman/ )
which looks very good. All reports is that it's lean, mean and quite
stable.

ntop from rpmforge
I don't know why I haven't signed up for this list before since we use
CentOS all over the place. The list is very useful and it is good for
me to participate and "give back" to the community.
Anywho, I wanted to post this response to a thread that was created back
in November 2008 about the ntop daemon failing to start. I'm currently
setting up ntop as a NetFlow &

SATA DVD Burner / AHCI / CentOS 4.7 (kernel: 2.6.9-78.0.22.EL)
OK, it seems that the kernel I have (stock CentOS 4.7: 2.6.9-78.0.22.EL i686)
seems to gronk the nVideo SATA controller in AHCI mode. It is NOT able
to deal with the SATA DVD Burner I have. It is a "Sony Optiarc DVD

Support". Is there some special magic I need to do? Here is the
relevant bit from the boot up (SATA ports

Gnome Desktop Screensaver Security Lock Override?
We deployed our first CentOS-4 based workstation this past spring to see
if we can conveniently replace all, or at least most, of our MS-Win based
user systems with Linux boxes instead. Generally this trial unit has
proved a success but there is one lingering problem that I cannot seem to
find a straight-forward answer to: Is there an administrator override to a
user's password protected

Backup options.
I am a long time FreeBSD user and have been using dump/restore for many
years for disk to disk backups.
Now I am getting more and more into FC4 and CentOS, but am I stuck on only
using tar/star for backups?
Tar in its various forms are fine for some items, like home directories, but
dump and restore in FreeBSD also gave me the possibility of easily doing a
bare metal restore.

Success story: updating LG DVD firmware using Wine
Hello,
I have an LG GSA-4163B drive. Recently I had many problems with the drive
not recognizing correct writing speed, and locking up hard on many DVD-RW
media. When I bought the drive, the latest firmware was at version A100,
and it was available bundled with a DOS flasher. Unfortunately LG dropped
DOS support, and now all the firmware updates are Windows only.
As the drive was barely usable

ipw220 wireless firmware for CentOS 5
OK, I've downloaded and unzipped the firmware files in
ipw2200-fw-3.0.tgz - so I have 4 files: ipw2200-bss.fw, ipw2200-ibss.fw,
ipw2200-sniffer.fw and LICENSE.ipw2200-fw, all of which I've placed in
the /lib/firmware directory. Unfortunately, the instructions in
README.ipw2200 and INSTALL are not clear as to what to do next. I'm
using CentOS 5 on my (Dell) laptop so setting-up wireless

How to Reshuffle a distance object
I would like to randomly shuffle a distance object, such as the one
created by ade4{dist.binary} below. My first attempt, using
sample(jc.dist) creates a shuffled vector, losing the lower triangular
structure of the distance object. How can I Ishuffle the lower
triangular part of a distance matrix without losing the structure?

failure building memcached rpm
Hi all,
I need to install the latest memcached version (1.4.20) on a number of
machines in this environment. There are only rpm's of this app for RHEL 6.
But we need to install the latest memcached on a number of RHEL 5 machines.
To be specific, they are OEL 5.7 hosts.
I've installed all of the developers tools that I would need.
But when I go to build the RPM I am getting the

Qanah being put on the back burner - for now
All -
I owe a few people an apology. I jumped in to trying to start up a
project at a time when my schedule just wouldn''t handle the load. I
did not accurately estimate my time commitments for the coming months
when I made the announcement of Qanah this past March.
So, for now, Qanah is being put on the back burner. Note I didn''t say
abandoned: just postponed. If you

CD Burner that supports .ogg files?
Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to the world of Vorbis, but after hearing
the sound comparisons I was sold. I've recently begun a massive
undertaking of ripping all my CD's to hard disk in preparation for the
home theater PC that I'm in the process of building. I am a couple of
hundred CD's into this and I came across one small problem, I can't find
any CD burning software

Freeware windows ogg audio CD burner?
Does such a thing exist?
I know I can convert the oggs to wavs and then to the audio CD, but it would
be good to do it in one step.
If there is nothing available right now, are there any freeware /
open-source products in the pipeline?
Thanks
